- Will the PlayStation® 3D Display work with anything other than my PS3™system?
- Absolutely. While the display is optimized for any HD gaming console, it features 3 HD inputs (2 HDMI, 1 component) that allow you to connect to your PS3™ system, cable TV box, and PC.
- Does the PlayStation® 3D Display work in normal 2D mode?
- Yes. You can choose to play games and watch movies in regular 2D mode.
- What’s the difference between ACTIVE 3D technology and PASSIVE 3D technology?
- The most notable difference between the two is the 3D resolution. With ACTIVE 3D, you get full HD 1080p 3D playback. With PASSIVE 3D, you will get half the resolution (eg if playback is 1080p, you will see only 540 lines of resolution). ACTIVE 3D displays require ACTIVE 3D glasses and PASSIVE 3D displays require polarized PASSIVE 3D glasses. The PlayStation® 3D Display supports ACTIVE 3D and the highest resolution.
- Do I need to buy additional accessories for my PlayStation®3D Display to work?
- No. The PlayStation® 3D Display was made to play 3D games right out of the box. With the included PlayStation® 3D Glasses, MotorStorm: Apocalypse Game, HDMI cable, and integrated 3D sync transmitter built into the display, all you need to do is hook up your PS3™system and you’re ready to go.
- When will the PlayStation® 3D Display be available?
- November 2011
- How much will the PlayStation® 3D Display cost?
- The MSRP will be $499 and the package includes the PlayStation® 3D Display, one pair of PlayStation® 3D Glasses, MotorStorm: Apocalypse Game, and an HDMI Cable.
- What 3D games are available for the PS3™ system?
- Please refer to our list of PS3™ system 3D games.
- What is SimulView™ technology?
- SimulView™ technology is unique to the PlayStation® 3D Display in that it significantly enhances two-player mode in many games. Ordinarily, two-player mode is played in split-screen format. With SimulView™ technology, each player gets his or her own full (2D) HD screen while wearing the PlayStation® 3D Glasses.
- What games offer SimulView™?
- More detail will be shared at a later time.
- What will I need to play a game with SimulView™?
- The PlayStation® 3D Display, 2 pairs of PlayStation® 3D Glasses, a PS3™system, a PS3™ game that supports SimulView™, and a buddy.
- What does Edge LED backlighting and 240Hz refresh rate mean?
- Edge LED backlighting offers improved contrast and brightness relative to normal (CCFL) LCD screens. Additionally, the technology allows for a super slim design.
240Hz is currently the best-in-class refresh rate. With such a high refresh rate, you get reduced motion blur in fast-moving images on LCDs, which is optimal for gaming.

Absolutely not. While the glasses have been optimized for the 3D gaming experience, they offer best-in-class 3D quality and are universally compatible with ACTIVE 3D TVs.
I see that these glasses come with built-in rechargeable batteries. How fast do they charge?
The glasses are fully rechargeable via the included micro-USB cable. If you need a quick charge, 3 minutes of charge will get you approximately 3 hours of 3D play. If you want a full charge, 30 minutes of charge will get you approximately 30 hours of 3D play.
What is crosstalk and how do the PlayStation® 3D Glasses minimize crosstalk?
Crosstalk is 3D distortion that occurs when ACTIVE 3D glasses are not communicating properly with the 3D display. This occurs most often when a user is watching 3D content and the glasses are not in a “normal” viewing angle (for example if you’re laying down on the couch sideways and your head is tilted). With the PlayStation® 3D Glasses, this effect is minimized.
Why do the glasses appear so dark when I am watching 3D content?
The glasses have been optimized for 3D gaming and while they appear darker in peripheral views (eg all areas other than the display), it does not affect the amount of brightness you receive from the display.

tthousand's thoughts - I notice this "display" does not come with a remote. And I am not sure if you can get one for it. But for those looking to by a small 3D display, they can find them selves looking at quite an expensive TV set, so this might be a nice package for them to check out instead. I have not seen a 3D TV this cheap before, although perhaps that explains why this is a "display". I have a "display" TV that I purchased a long time ago, and it still looks great, and runs well. Not to mention, if I ever needed it, I could have a very big PC display.
