Price Reductions and New Hack Proof PS3 Console Coming Soon

Sony has had their hands full responding to the recent Playstation 3 hacks. Most recently they've been dealing with the early leak of Killzone 3, one of their flagship franchises. This leak has Sony troubled by the "thought of their console becoming a mainstream threat to piracy." In response, Sony has already been hard at work designing a brand new hack proof Slim model PS3.

In an effort to make room for the new hack-proof console, Sony has been steadily dropping prices on existing hardware, including games, and offering other incentives. Sony is even planning a much over-due price drop in the United Kingdom to help clear out the inventory faster. The new price point would be a significant drop to the tune of approximately £170.00 ($275.86 USD) and set to be introduced at the same time as Nintendo's 3DS launch.

Once shelf space is cleared for the new hack-proof model, Sony will attempt to lure gamers into purchasing it by including a 300GB hard drive. According to reports, the new hack-proof model will cost UK gamers £186.99 ($303.44 USD).

It is unknown when the new model will start arriving on shelves. Reports are stating that Sony is waiting for the results of their big case against hacker, George Hotz, before making official release plans.

HELP! I was isntalling geohot's jailbreak on my 3.55 ps3 (40gb) and then when it reached 100% the screen went dark but the ps3 didn't turn off,and it's been like 5 minutes of that.What should I do?

What you should do is not hijack news posts. Instead create a topic in the help forum or check to see if someone else has had the same issue.

I dont think theres such a thing? Hack proof? Correct me if I'm wrong. And why in the hell arnt they lowering prices in the US? Ohhh well, this will be fun project for the hackers. Hope it does not take 4 yrs though

wasnt the ps3 suppose to be hack proof already? hows that working out for you sony? to call somethign hack proof is just inviting hackers to prove hwo shitty you are at hack proofing lmao

ps killzone 3 sucks i played for 15min and shut it off, glad i didnt buy it

they shud release playstation 4 not something new hack proofs... or something... yes i know... the ps4 we not going to see till 2015... its sad truth... i just want a new console... i am tired of xbox and ps3...

just hope that sony gaming division doesnt get screwed, im kind of a person who gets anxious quickly, sony r the best at what they do, just installing stuff without us know is wrong so they deserve some bits.

(Sigh) as much as I love sony products they are acting like a petulant child
1. Their system got hacked 4ever
2. They are wasting time and money on things that cant be fixed
3. They are SUEING the wrong guy (Geohot)
4. Many people already own ps3's anyway....

The way I see it... Sony needs to accept the loss and just move on to NGP or something

It means you shouldn't have had it connected to the internet and Sony's busted you...

...really, no idea what it means, but if you've been reading what's going on lately, why even attempt something like this?

On topic though...huh?? Hack proof system and they're lowering prices to make room on the shelves? Is Sony expecting to lose this case, because that's what it seems like. It's somewhat intelligent, but stupid as well. Sell out of a product that "can be hacked" to make room for something that can't....as if anyone is really going to want to spend money for a system with 300GB when you can purchase a 500GB HDD online for around $60 (USD).

...and then to market launching it when the 3DS is coming out? Fail'd attempt to steal sales is what that sounds like.

Cute how Sony is walking on eggshells over this whole matter, but trying to calculate everything with a precision to where they're not losing out on anything.

Hack proof?? HA!! You have to be kidding.. The only thing they are going to do is fix the existing problems in there poor security and try to implement protection features that will further restrict the consumer. It will only be a matter of time before its cracked as well.

You're fine. Just reset it. Re-install the official 3.55, then install kmeaw's.

Well... all I gotta say is... Theres no way a 300GB HDD will pull me in, EVER, considering how I already have a 320GB HDD in there atm!!!

if its man made, it will never be hack proof. there will always be people in the next generation who outsmart those from the previous generation. its technology and will forever be advancing.

i can understand sony being sore after this, but they are doing things the wrong way.
