Well on one hand, announcing this injects a little life into the scene, maybe encourages competition. On the other hand, it brings out all the whiners and gives Sony a head start on finding them before anything's released. Would suck to come home to an open front door with a note pinned on.

I just hope No_One has some sort of contingency plan in place since he probably has Sony's full attention after the announcement.

You have a multi-billion dollar company with a recent history for dirty court tactics and having judges and police doing virtually everything the company tells them. You tell that company that you will soon defeat the last straw in their protection, and that you will be away from your house for the next three weeks?

Take as much vacation time as you need. If this is legit, then you have obviously spent tons of time and energy on it. Come back whenever you are ready, fresh to finish the job. 3 weeks, 3 months, whenever. I appreciate the heads up so CFW users who were on the fence know to hold on a little longer before updating.(Not me, I would wait much longer if needed, even without this announcement)

But PLEASE send a copy of whatever results you have so far somewhere safe in case you get robbed, or have your rights violated by Sony cronies.I can't even imagine what a punch to the gut it would be to see the news page updated saying every bit of progress was stolen or destroyed while you were gone.

It would've been better to not have told everyone the progress and what they were doing. Just release anonymously and be on your way. Just my 2 cents.

'No_one' does have a contingency plan, so don't worry.

GaryOPA: Sony has fixed the PRIVATE key signing bug, so keys will NOT be the THING that gets released in the future. -- Thirdly, what really has to be done is figure out how to correctly exploit the bootloader which has been hinted that you can and get possibly the final special console ROOT key which is unique per console, which will help unlock the rest of the chain of trust!This is NO EASY TASK, and thankful there is at least two other hardware projects in the go and others working on it, so lets keep our fingers crossed and just wait it out and see what happens in the future!

This is the epitome of forward progress. Nothing else matters. The 27 console port of z/x/snes9x/ps2/ps3 is useless if newcomers can't install it without soldering on a 100 wire modchip.

No dev owes any of us anything, we're lucky to have gotten as much as we did, it's you who should learn some manners and be grateful that there's someone out there working on shit that's beyond your knowledge. If he wants to build hype - let him, if he wants a vacation - let him take one. Shit, if he wants to sell his dongle, I'm all good with that. A lot of effort goes into this kind of thing and I'm absolutely not against paying for the ability to be able to play 3.6+ games on my PS3.

It's called TRYING TO MAKE A PROFIT. Seriously, they found the keys but as soon as they release them someone will make a 3.6+ CFW and all recognition that they exist is gone to everyone except Devs. If they were to wait a while (build hype, ETC) than release during the time it takes for a dev to finally get one and make a stable CFW, n00bs everywhere are buying them because of the hype. (maybe THIS WILL LET YOU PLAY PS2 GAMES, RUN WII EMULATOR AT 60 FPS bla bla bla fake fake fake) The creator would make alot of money, the dev would get to create CFW 3.66 with the features that this has and get scene fame, and the n00bs would install it wrong and brick their PS3's and leave sites like this and than they won't say "THE SCENE IS DEAD" because they have no PS3s. In the end this could be a good thing for everybody.

Just getting the PUBLIC keys does NOT allow you to make a 3.6X+ custom firmware (you need PRIVATE keys to sign anything - which will never happen again) - you still need an exploit for the 3.6X+ firmware.

These PUBLIC keys can however be added to a 3.55CFW - which would allow playing (decrypting) of 3.6X games (but this is not a 3.6X CFW).

this doesnt realy pertain to this much but i had gotten the cod waw map packs from psn long ago and i gat a wani brick. so i got a new ps3 and forgot about waw. now that i want to play some zombies on those map pack i cant! is there anyway devs can figure out a way around the act.dat?

Actually I do understand. It's you who needs to get some manners. The developers do this for a hobby. They aren't here to impress you. So be a bit more respectful towards developers. Don't expect everything handed to you on a silver platter WHEN YOU want it.

They don't have any keys. Do you people actually read the posts? Like gary said from ps3crunch. The only keys that the developers will find will be public keys. Which won't do anything for us. The key that everyone should be looking for is the PER CONSOLE root key. From the news article he hasn't found that yet. Likewise nowhere does it say in the news article that he or anyone else has found 3.6x keys. Whoever wrote the news article pulled that out of thin air. The public 3.6x keys have been known for quite some time. But they are basically useless. As we can't use them to find any private keys.

Like I said it seems whoever made the article title decided to throw 3.6x keys in the title just for the hell of it.

People need to realize that we will never be using keys again. The only keys we will probably end up using are the per console root key. Which unlocks everything. The only other keys we might use are NPDRM.

Also I love how you think they are trying to amp up hype by saying they are on vacation. You newbs come up with some really interesting conspiracy theories. They aren't trying to amp up hype. The dude was merely giving us an update before he went on vacation. But even if they "were" amping up hype for the hardware to make money, who bloody cares? They created the hardware so why can't they charge for it? All the other scenes charge for hardware. 360 scene, DS scene, and I believe the wii scene.(not sure on the wii.) So if the developer wants to make money WHO CARES? It's his right to do so. He worked hard to make this hardware, so he should be allowed to sell it.

If you made a nice piece of hardware that could unlock the PS3 once and for all, would you charge for it? I know I would. Developers are allowed to charge for their hard work. Developers do this all the time. It's called a job. But if a hobby developer decides to do the same thing, WHO CARES!?
