PlayStation 3 Now $249 - Announcement from Gamescom

Sony has announced today at Gamescom that as of right now, they will be selling their PS3 consoles starting at $249. Perhaps this is an attempt to get users to come back after the PSN shutdown fiasco. During the shutdown, many users switched over to the more stable Xbox 360, and it's XBL service; while game retailers offered incredible trade-in offers for your 'non-PSN having' PS3s. Another idea, is that they want to try and clear the shelves of older consoles, and make way for their new 'hack-proof' models. Just my couple of cents.

Great News ! Accept in australia the price dropped from $450 AUD to $350 AUD RRPBy current conversion rates, thats $367 USD.Oh how i hate Australia's electronics pricing.

Nice, with such an announcement from sony's side-----it means that "HD_ERA" really began... Because like when PS2 became cheap and brought DVD_Quality everywhere and to everyone in 2003 the same happens here-----Cheap PS3 will bring Everywhere -----HDMI---HDTV---Progressive Scan----InterNet as standard in CE-Device(actually PS3 not just CE but also PC Device )---LinuxOS as OtherOS----BlueRay(Will become cheaper)----HD--HD--HD--Everywhere...Finally after five years HD_ERA comes to everyone...Guys I think that we must celebrate such an event....

You other guys need to get on amazon.com if you can.

@SkyNet: Not only that, every bundle I see is at 300 also. I have only seen one higher, and that one came with the move and some other shht. Those were 400 if not more only a day ago. Time to get a third console?

Seriously, everyone drink up, this round is on Sony!

They are giving us they're old hardware, they gave up on it

Did you just enter a hype trip ? OtherOS ? They killed it. As for everything, $ony is being overrun...

Come on Man--Did you seriously thought that I meant "Original OtherOS"? I know for myself that sony likes to kill features of its "consoles"...
I talked there about "Restored ability by Developers to install Linux to PS3".
But the most important now is that PS3 is enterning state of affordable device---and that means that more developers will be interested in developing for ps3.
So lets Celebrate.. Its worth it...

good for you guys, but here in my country it has remained at the same price for 3 years now,450$ and games are 90$ per game. wish i was travelling soon, would have bought me a second ps3 for online gaming. the X360 is atleast 210$ here.

Im so envy of you because in my country 1 ps3 cost 1128$ and games cost 75~120$. Seriously, im not joking. Its really pissing me off. The government is so f****** corrupt.

Once it hits $200 USD (Or inflation makes it easier to get $250 USD ) I'll pick one up for those higher firmware games and games that need DLC's. Till then I'm playing Alice on the PC.

I think that the reason for the pricedrop is the normal reason when it comes to pricedrops. Companies drop the price on their product so it is more affordable, hoping that more people will buy the product

I don't think that a lot of people took the time and energy to sell their PS3 after the PSN hack. I have not seen any big fall in PS3 sales from the sales numbers at least right after PSN was hacked. I think that the "hack proof" (what makes it hack proof by the way?) would have replaced the older PS Slim models regardless of this pricedrop. I don't think that Sony recalled the older PS3 Slim models at least, so those would have sold out over time regardless of the pricedrop.

too expensive for a block to hold your door!!! playstation 3 is dead ever since it was release. i use my playstaion for emulators, xbox 360 is #1 since day 1

Well if you remember correctly when the 1st ever ps3 came out 5 years ago it was 600 bucks so being that it is 249.99 is a VERY good deal for a new console. People are selling theirs for a higher price. But most importantly the ps3/xbox 360 war is rather silly, both are great consoles BUT the ps3 have a better media than the xbox 360. But at the end of the day its pretty much the same thing.
