  • Phat PS3: Firmware 3.6x Downgrade via Infectus + Waninkoko Brick Fix

The Waninkoko mass brick incident may be a distant memory to most users, but it is most likely still very vivid to those who were affected. For those of you that don't remember, Waninkoko's initial release of custom firmware caused detriment to a countless number of PS3 consoles by permanently (until now) bricking them. For those users who were looking for a fix, it's time for them to brush off the dust from their bricked consoles and prepare for the excitement of it regaining life.

Today, dospiedras1973, a Spanish hacker, has released a fix as well as a way to downgrade Fat PS3's from 3.6x firmware. Unfortunately, the method requires an Infectus mod chip, which will require some very fine soldering work to install. However, this is still very exciting news. Prior to the release of this method, there were a set number of exploitable PS3's, but numbers were dwindling as more users decided to upgrade. With the release of this downgrade method, it means that all Fat PS3's can be exploited with a little bit of know how and skill.

For those of you looking to undertake the task, below is a picture of an installed Infectus chip to give you an idea of how difficult the soldering will be.

    Download: DOWNGRADE.RAR (9.65 MB)

Hello, I’ve been working on this project about two months nowsince I’ve gotten to work as public so that everyone can use, this tutorial is for consoles with 256MB NAND flash does not mean it does not work in 16MB in itself is changed almostthe same in those with normal flash, but because even I havemy fat ******g 16mb 80GB I have not been able to neither prove nor verified.

Nougat (the phrase I owe to some forero around here that I really liked the expression):

With INFECTUS flash0.bin and we get our nand flash1.bin asin the tutorial to repair bad lukin nands do the same process until we get our dump flashfinal.bin 256MB

nand we open this with a simple hex editor and look for this part editor

    “00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 6F FF E0”

ay you will see that just under a very similar line, I find this datain the offset 000C0020 may vary according to the nand andthe party starts here:-D

EVEN replace that line with the file if you use the hxd1patchcos.bin get in the first 0 of the line -> right click and paste writing before you have to have an open 1patchcos.binhxd in hex and copy its contents to can paste .[ps3hax.net]

    “00 00 00 00 00 00 10 10 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 10 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 40″

    and in the same way as the first patched patched this alsocojemos 2patchtrvk.bin pack the file and replace the entire contents including the “00 00 00 00 00 00 10 10 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 10 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 40”

then we take the option we use reescramble flowrebuilder thisdump so we rebuild our flash0.ECC.bin and flash1.ECC.bin

and flash the result, when you finish you will notice that the PS3 now has a nice on but black screen, it cojemos ourfactory jig to put it into service mode and put it in factory, thenthe typical cojemos lv2diag of yore and the pup you please

(NOTE: the first pup that metais will stay in the console as the minimum version that you can downgrade then, if you want tolose 3.55 to 3.41 then you will have to put the pup up to 3.41before 3.55 or 3.55 will remain in that if cost will not rewrite thedump again to downgrade to lower the pup that you put thefirst time.)

then you put your factory lv2diag to leave the service and you’re good

Note: this applies to repair the brick Waninkoko NAND NOTDONATED plates even sem-001 (tested) (and stepdowngrade xD)

    Thanks to:
all channel # irc-hispano darkps3 for supporting me for so long
to donate the INFECTUS austaquio32 to achieve to continuewith my project
to Nodial2ne paid for the help locating files in the nand
to robs1 for helping throughout the process with ideas tomake this possible

and everyone who was patient and not by private haunts mexD

Wow, News avalanche! This is great as I was considering getting an old Fat with hardware backward compatibility, but of course finding one with firmware 3.55 or less was the tricky part. Now I know that I have the ability to roll it back. Yay!

You are right, its no fat PS3 (at least not the revision i have). I tried to downgrade my PS3 with Infectus for 2 months (started in november 2010) and still know the layout... But it didnt work for me... The Infectus tool didnt recognize my PS3. And soldering is nearly impossible (for me), because solder didnt really adhere on the PS3 chips.

@sirkid1: so i advise you not to try that. i even had two short circuits that broke my fw. but service mode let me refresh my fw so it worked again

      You can get mine

I bought mine at discoazul[dot]com in Oktober 2010. I dont know wether they still have one. But i advise you to first have a look inside your PS3 and try to solder only ONE wire on the NAND chip. If you get - ok try it! Otherwise save your money.

Im all ready to do this I have Infectus and ive tested the soldering its not impossible I compare it to modding ps2 slim, what is interesting is that after the wiring is done the heatsinks need to go back on and the system needs to be powered on while the dumping/reflashing occurs. What I would like now is some better translation of the hex editing instructions as some its garbled can anyone clarify what needs to be done?

If you can solder with a steady hand, definitely. If not, then it's not worth trying because you'll more than likely just destroy your PS3.

A descent soldering iron is a must for that.
