Good question. I'm a bit confused. Why do we need Open Ps2 when cobra already utilizes 100% of the software emulator? I'm assuming that the performance is heck of a lot better for Open Ps2? If so, I will be one helluva happy camper.

On a side note:

The way I see it about this whole cobra vs TB dialogue is this: If you want more bang for your buck in terms of playability options (like PSP, and BD/DVD images, etc) then go for cobra. If you want to play most of the latest awesome ps3 games, then go for TB. If anyone feels that they are getting ripped off by getting TB and calling it a scam then It's apparent that they don't care about about playing the latest ps3 games....at the moment. IMHO, good things come to those who wait...I'll be playing my PSP games on the big screen in the meantime.

if you read the title it clearly states that this is for NON BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE PS3's, in other words, this take a non backwards compatible ps3 and makes it backwards compatible by using the open ps2 loader iso. Cobra Usb does not give make a ps3 that isnt BC play ps2 games, but this method allows NON BC PS3 to play ps2 games, do you under stand? :P

and to clear up the confusion.......... wait for it.... wait for it........ this enables BC on NON BC consoles (even slims on 3.55) but you have to have the cobra dongle. now NON BC models will have BC if they get a Cobra dongle.

Wow, where to start. I'm not gonna point out your broken/unintelligible english. As for the rest of it - I don't keep track of other peoples finances, but deank has put an insane amount of work into multiman and has given it away for free since the start. He has made the BEST game manager. He updates constantly. He also released an updated version that works with both cobra and without. If he is getting paid from the Cobra team, then all I can say is good for him. HE EARNED IT. It amazes me how ungrateful people can be about all the FREE stuff that people put out there for us to use. I'm not kissing deank's butt, but tallking bad about him is one of the quickest ways to make enemies anywhere on the scene. It's people like you that prevent people from putting out quality work. And his work is of the highest quality out there

The cobra does UTILIZE 100% of the original Ps2 emulator software, it's just that it's in its infancy stage right now in terms of PERFORMANCE. My question was directed toward NON-BC

Every PS3, Fat and Slim do have a software PS2 emulator in it. Sony has been working on this so they make more money by selling PS2 game through the PSN.

If you don't know already, there is a method of getting PS2 discs to play on non-bc PS3 systems by using service mode.

Now we can do this without service mode and without needing the disc. I have tons of PS2 games that I still play and waiting for the PS3 HD version of them like the Jak and Daxter series. and Ratchet and Clank series.

Ok, am I to understand that this is playing backup .iso's by putting them into the /PS2ISO folder? Since it said there was no need for any disc in the optical drive. Or would you still need the original/backup disc to play them. (I have both just curious)

Having a Cobra USB and a backward compatible PS3, none of this really concerns me. I am curious though, would this allow for playing PS2 ISOs off an external drive? Currently the Cobra dongle requires the ISO to be on the internal drive, which is a hassle for me.

This isn't an emulator as far as I know, so it's only a program that loads ps2 backups.

Thus, you probably won't get any more compatibility than what you already get with Cobra USB support. So, this is pretty useless if you ask me.

Cobra already supports loading PS2 games on non-bc consoles (uses the 100% software emulator) however the 100% software emulator does not work good. It is very buggy and has many performance issues.

As I allready stated, this does not work for non-BC consoles. This is not an emulator of any sort but just an ISO of an existing PS2 loader (its an open source clone of HDadvance).

The PS3 does not currently have a software emulator for the PS2 Graphics Synthesizer GPU, only the Emotion Engine CPU, this would explain why you get a black screen.

Can anyone please confirm that this is working? Not just loading open ps2 loader but the ps2 game itself. Some says it works, some says it wont load the game and shows black screen :/ Really want to buy the cobra if this works, would be a huge let down if it didnt play ps2 games after all.

this is for Cobra owners that want to plat PS2 games off ext HDD, from what I read yes it does work on non BC PS3s (probably same compatibility as from internal with Cobra) also this tutorial is incomplete as I believe you have to patch the ISOs with ESR and put them on the root (w/ USBextreme) of a fat32 formatted USB HDD (so there is need for some PC work)

Hey, this is very cool on how they were able to make PS2 games play on a new Slim PS3. How the hell did they do that? I thought all this time the PS3 just didn't have the right hardware to make it work. I would love to see a new compatibility game chart to see what works and what doesn't.

I am familiarized with OPL 8, since I use it on both my Phat and Slim PS2 consoles (storing games on HDD via network). I'm happy to hear these news, now I am going to bug the hell out of bitsbubba to see if he releases his own CFW that makes switching dongles (TB and Cobra) easy! C'mon bitsbubba! Come to my rescue!!
