I'm pretty certain sony did not plant bugs into his house and they did not put 24 hr surveillance on him. all he has to do is go to a pawn shop and buy a PS3 there than go anon. or give a friend the money and tell him to do it for him who knows? And IIRC, geohot's CFW only worked with signed packages.

But Spazkid is right... All the good devs are gone its kinda dumb to defend this scene since kamew (or whatever you call it) he released that over 6+months ago... All the good talent is gone I repeat GONE... its like taking Goku and Vegeta out of DBZ and the show will be shit... see my point... look on the bright side there are over 70% of older games that people have access too... everybody was happy with their ps3 before the jailbreak came out and now everyone wants to say **** Sony... most people only care about FREE GAMES only a certain few care about Linux... why do we need a new cfw??? (FOR PLAYING FREE GAMES) or ONLINE well I hate to break it to people but if you jailbreak your PS3 you LOSE all access to psn or newer games... but YET people are NEVER happy so my advice for those who just have only one ps3 with a jailbreak player your older games or STFU about a newer firmware for those with 3.56+ firmwares who is crying about a newer cfw STFU and buy a used 3.55 or lower ps3... at the end of the day if you have 1 ps3 YOU have to make a choice ... this scene is a joke... people cant be happy with what they have when MOST IMPORTANTLY they CONTRIBUTE NOTHING to the DEV'S

wow DBZ reference i feel like im 15 all over again. i can see you points they are extremely apparent, but its still fair to defend the "scene" i mean its true that most of the more notable devs are not (or cannot) do much at this point but that doesnt mean anything. its not like CFW stopped when darkalex stopped. it took MUCH longer granted but things continued to move forward. everybody is replaceable (no offense to the devs)

Also, even if its been 6+ months thats a blink compared to how long it took for somebody to put that out. im not a spiritual person but any means, but this really is a faith based system for the people who are not talented enough to make these advancements themselves. of course the kids these days cant wait a day past yesterday for something since they grew up in an age where companies can make 5 ipads in less than 3 years but the most vocal doesnt always equate to the popular vote. those kids come in and play 4-5 games and drop out as soon as they have to wait to play newer games, and in the bigger picture they are really not apart of the scene. personally, i think it would be nice to leave a nice grace period in between CFW to weed those kids out. its kinda like starving out roaches (or leeches in this case) so when the next round of CFW comes around it leaves the more faithful, and hopefully mature gamers.

i might be a bit biased because im one of the dual wielders that has the best of both worlds, but i didnt start like that. i was at 3.60 when i decided to try out CFW on a ps3 and i had enough faith to shell out 300 bucks for a second ps3 because i think its worth it. maybe its just me, but im happy with my decision. even pirates cant come up with an excuse for why buying a second ps3 isnt a bargain. even if you never pirated another game from this day forward, and you added up all the games that came out since 3.55 it would still cost well more than the price of your ps3 so it pays for itself in a way.

I'm not sure about 3.70, but you can downgrade 3.6x to 3.55 through a hardware flasher, like Infectus, Progskeet or NORway.

oops, just realised that you were asking for software mods. Then no, no one yet figured a way to hack or downgrade 3.6x firmwares.

currently you are out of luck. best solution for most users is to buy a second ps3, one for online and legit firmware, the second for offline and fooling around with. there is no way at the current moment to go from 3.66 back down to a jailbreakable firmware.

maybe in time, there are some good devs still doing some great work with hardware.

When electronics is less and less electronics and replaced with chipsets boasting 700 millions transistors, it's getting more difficult every year to figure out the inner workings of a device, especially complex hardware like a PlayStation 3, without access to the manufacturer's implementation and design on paper. Sure with unlimited time and resources, both human and economic, technically everything could be, but that statement is theoretical not practical, and in practice some things haven't been done and probably won't be for a reason, it's non-practical. And by the way, if I'd knew you, I'd bet with you right now the Xbox3 and PS4 will never be hacked, all Microsoft has to do is model its disc reader on Sony's PS3 model, Sony will put a random number in its design when calling "m", and there you have it, un-hack-able, check and mate. Now you could hire a highly proficient firm to hack it, but at what price, or steal Sony's design from the inside, like the suspected USB dongle, but a small group of amateur hackers trying to remove or circumvent security measures in those console in their spare time for the fun, and maybe glory, of it, doubtful, the Xbox was almost there, Sony was there if it weren't for the "m=4" mistakes.

Here's failoverflow explaining how they hacked the keys, without them you ain't got sh*t, no custom firmware, no homebrews, no nothing, we sure know a 3.60 firmware without 3.60 keys is impossible, 3.70 as well. Sony made a mistake they will not repeat my friend. Guess this is the end of the line for me, moving to OFW as soon as Uncharted 3 arrives, unfortunately I can't afford a second PS3 where I live, and the incentive of having Linux, emulators, and homebrews (which by the way, can have on my PC anytime in most of the cases) can't compete whit the main reason of having a PS3, the games. 3.55 CFW just aged another version older (Happy Birthday!!), and as the PS3 game library stays the same size for the (yes, it is shrinking) handful of people still using the CFW, everyone else on OFW can continue to play the latest games without a problem, but no fear, YOU have showtime. Not trying to be a d1ck. Not in the least. I am all for unlocking the full potential of a console you own, and the survival of a "scene", hell, I loved every minute of the original Xbox scene, part of which lives on even today, but this isn't working. Something needs to happen, from an "outsider looking in" (as in I don't own a PS3) perspective. Change is needed.

I would like to get a PS3 someday, but this scene is not quite there yet. The PS3 is not "fully unlocked". I support you tho. GO TEAM!

That's cool that you have an alternative in Xbox Live but you see my point tho? Also, and I thought about this after my above post, but it isn't really so much about PSN as it is library limitation. See, back in the Xbox 1 days, we didn't really care about Xbox Live, in contrast, (and those who had to have it could easily set it up to have both modded console and Live) because that was all we had to give up. Now, you are forced to update or you can't play all of the latest games as they are released which can really make a person feel "left out", which pretty much negates the very reason for buying a CURRENT gen console. Not being able to play the latest games just drills another hole into the bottom of your boat.
