Official Firmware 3.66 Arrives

Eric Lempel, Vice President of Sony Network Entertainment, just announced on the official Sony blog, that a new firmware update is coming very soon. The proposed update will be version 3.66, but it doesn't appear to have any new ground breaking features. Eric stated that the new update will make PS3 game playback more stable. In addition, he went on to state that the network services have also been improved.

It is possible that the new update is actually a security update in response to the recent Quality Assurance mode hacks. However, it would seem hard to believe that Sony could respond this quickly. Regardless, we recommend that users do not update to version 3.66 if they intend to keep the ability to jailbreak/exploit their consoles.

Update: The firmware is now live and available for download.

A new PS3 system software update, v3.66, will be released soon. With this minor update, system stability during use of PS3 format software and network services has been improved.

With all these "System/Game Stability" Updates, surely the PS3 should never freeze seeing as most of the updates of late have been for this

Downloading now. It's mandatory, at least to play black ops (which is what I'll be doing in about 5 minutes...).

The consoles was having problems with the heating FW 3.65, I believe this is the solution to this problem

heating issues can only be fixed by a hardware fix

This isn't true, the old firmware might make the processor carry a heavier load to do something simple, as the new firmware can make use of the processor more efficient.

with all the "security" updates, it will be a while before someone hacks the 3.60+ keys. sony is winning the hacking war so far

hey guys a little off topic but i was curious is it possible to have one internal hdd with 3.55 cfw on it and then another brand new hdd with ofw on it and just manually change hdd's to be able to switch from cfw to ofw? i just cant afford another ps3 and would like to be able to get on psn. thanks in advance

Saying that here is going to get you flamed at. No the firmware is not stored on the HDD but on the nand/nor on the motherboard.

Joop... and no Debug (QA Flag) in it. Found and deleted in OFW. Sony you was the best Company. Bring out a pocket calculator, and you can cancel the = Button.

They are winning since FW3.56, I just want scene developpers to concentrate how to make our CFW more awesome, like adding XBMC, different webbrowser or more emulators, I don't care about pirating the newest games cuz I have a backlog of around 15 games.

Wasn't there something similar in the early 2.xx FW?

Being able to switch 2 drives around one with OFW & one with DFW?
