NEW PS3 SLIM Model (CECH-3001A) Ships

News from TheBanditKing, tells us that the "hack proof" PS3 Slim model revision is now shipping. Sony is attempting to prevent jailbreaking with this new hardware revision, and have fixed a major security flaw found in older PS3 consoles. Also, from TheBanditKing, are several photos, and some confirmations of the changes previously mentioned for the CECH-3001A model.

TheBanditKing says:

The Wifi light was removed but not the HDD light, the PS logo above the drive is now silk screened rather then an emblem while the silk screened SONY logo was removed in favor of an indented logo. Also the power and eject buttons have changed color to a darker gray and the silver/clear overlay around them is removed.

Lastly the entire casing is now a matte finish besides the power button/drive face area, no more glossy front and side plastic [...]. The unit is also lighter then the 2001-A (not sure why) also I believe they may have finally engineered out the annoying plastic pop from case expansion/contraction with this model.

[...] also worth noting that in the 4 hours I have had the 3001-A on there has been no plastic pop from the case and the unit actually feels cooler to the touch then the 2001A right next to it.

[...] they removed the LED backlighting from the actual buttons. The little green and blue LEDs are still there above the buttons [...]

[...] it sounds like the 3001-A is quieter then the 2001-A I have right next to it as the 2001 is making most of the fan noise in the room (keeping in mind both are doing the exact same thing).

It will be interesting to see what can be done to these with the newer infectus type devices.

There is still a ****load of the old models out there you can hack and none of those even come with something above 3.55.

More likely the NAND flash has been integrated in some other chip.

Nothing is "hack proof" so I wouldn't even go around calling it that. It's more like "it's not hacked yet". With the sellout geohot doing god knows what to these machines it might be harder to hack. Also, with Sony pressuring the law to arrest these hackers and not much word from Twiizers it might be a while until you can slap a firmware onto it. Maybe, just maybe a signed CFW will surface, but don't hold your breath. No PS3? Buy used.

I really dont understand why people are saying **** Sony what the hell is wrong with all of you 0.0 did you NOT forget when you play your ps3,psp,ps2 it doesnt says Sony??? They are a company how would you feel if you ran a buisness and you are losing millions upon billions because of piracy I know you ALL would of done the same thing... (back on topic) This wouldnt effect anyone who has a 3.41 or 3.55 ps3 for those with higher firmwares stop your bitching waiting for a new cfw because it is slim to none because no hacker isnt going to stick thier neck out for you or anyone... but I bet ONE hacker have a 3.65 cfw but they arent stupid enough to risk it to the public and why not? They arent getting paid for it... if there was DONATIONS maybe there will be a new cfw... shit isnt free people for my advice for those who have over 3.56 - 3.65 sell your ps3 and get a used one or just be quiet.. last time I checked 3.55 cfw been out for 8 months??? for those who are waiting for the 3.65 cfw REALLY needs thier head examined

- Hackers are too scared to try and even if they did 3.6 is now a secure private key (i keep reading that everywhere) (ok thats not an attempt at reverse psychology its a statement of fact and who can blame them, some how sony have got police to raid homes)
- end users are whinny and demanding (this post in itself i guess could almost come as that)...renember people the cfw we have was free
- the scene seems to believe we either want homebrew or the latest games not both (a assumption sony made back when they removed other os)
- we have never had a ps3 wide open (think the 360 jtag)
in short any ps3 with 3.6 or above is unhackable i would love to be proven wrong but it aint gonna happen any time this decade

I love the PS3 and like Sony as a tech brand, but I absolutely despise what Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE, not Sony) has become in the past year or so.

The 3.56 ofw released 6 months ago has not been jailbroken yet that sony is already releasing a new ps3 model. I think that the PS3 scene is dying a slow death. We should move to the 360 that's easily hackable.

I am surprisingly one of the FEW who loves this model. I have had on my 2004A slim the following within 1 year: Blu-Ray noise fail, DOA unit and after 2 months a YLOD with slim. Current unit pops also and is quite hot. So less noise, no popping / cracking seems ideal to me. The cfw is long past its time so i'm enjoying psn and with a new model the failure rate will be down to 1% again.

Yeah, if Sony even has to remove leds to cut down costs (), just imagine what should be the quality of the components in the 3000 series.

What is most likely taken away because of their selfish stupidity.• dvd playback taken away• No way of playing ps1 or ps2 games• Instead of putting in several blueray movies...it will only allow you to play 1 blueray movie every 24 hours, putting in another movie right after you have watched one will not work. In fact it will tell you it's not a valid disc.• No usb port at all, making it impossible to install firmware of any kind outside of the actual psn update from the system it self.• "forcing" you to stay on an updated firmware whether you like it or not.• Instead of a free account you are FORCED to give Sony money just to sign in. 10 cents for eachtime you sign in• No recovery mode, making it impossible to fix your system if you accidently bricked it, meaning even Sony couldn't fix it if you sent it to them.• Only able to play a ps3 game for 1 hour, the ps3 will be "force" shutdown at the top of the hour, and no way if getting the disc out. You will have to wait a half an hour to be able to turn the system back on just to take the disc out.

Whoops, sorry. forgot to look at the details...

Now that I've read that they cut the fan size down from 12mm to only 8mm at the same noise level... that means less rpm and less airflow in an even lighter case... Time to grill some chickens on it

Someone says to the store: "Hey, i've got an error: the YLOD", other says "Well, we have a truck load of ps3 with same error, so we'll give you just a new one in case".

It seems like the whole look of the new model is matt finish including the side trims I like how they've engraved 'Sony' on the front panel.

However removing the LED backlight is a bad move I quite liked the LED backlight oh well.....(sorry but these minor details matter to me)

I never comment but this takes the cake. The scene is not that old and progress is being made to hack 3.66 if you haven't heard. Look how long it took the 360 scene to get to where it is now. It took a while. You have people saying already that stuff will never be hacked. You know people have said the same thing about the ps3 before jailbreak came out and look what happened. Things just take time. I swear some people are just so stupid and want everything now. You got one dude complaining how we have had custom made 3.55 firmware for 8 months. Give me a break. It took the 360 up until now to be able to do the same thing as hacked ps3.
