  • multiMAN Version 04.19.05 Update Out!

Yesterday Deank dropped by with an update to multiMAN. Unfortunately I had my head up my a.. Ahem. So without further delay here is version 04.19.05 of multiMAN which includes support for PS2 add-on discs. Be sure to follow Deank's instructions found in the quote below. I have also included some info from the release thread containing various comments made by Deank and our members, so be sure to read them so that you can get yourself up to date.

    About multiMAN 04.19.05:
multiMAN 04.19.05 minor update is available online and in the web column (CEX/DEX/STEALTH).

Added support for PS2 disc add-ons for PS3 games like SingStar:
    • "[PS2" prefix in folder name required
    • Example: /dev_hdd0/GAMES/SingStar-Dance/[PS2 Pop] where [PS2 Pop] contains a backup of your PS2 disc

You can have up to 10 [PS2] add-on discs per PS3 game. In the screenshot above the following folder structure was used:
    • /dev_usb000/GAMES/SingStar-Dance <--- This is the PS3 game listed in the Game column

mM detects the add-on PS2 discs and will list them in the pop-up menu when you load the game:
    • /dev_usb000/GAMES/SingStar-Dance/[PS2 Pop]
    • /dev_usb000/GAMES/SingStar-Dance/[PS2 Disney]
    • /dev_usb000/GAMES/SingStar-Dance/[PS2 Party]
    • /dev_usb000/GAMES/SingStar-Dance/[PS2]

To have a PS2 disc to be listed in the pop-up menu the folder name must start with [PS2 like in the examples above.

[Hermes] option for BD-ROM Emulator must be used and a PS3 disc is required. Later for the PS2 swap you'll need an original PS2 disc.

Don't forget that you can backup your original PS2 discs in folder format using mmOS.

Thanks to @Portnyashka for the tests and suggestions.

    Dean

I don't think I get what this ps2 add on stuff is. Can somebody explain what it does and what it is good for?
Thanks, Dean, for an awesome job with Multiman. =)

But, if I have a non-backwards compatible PS3, will the usb Cobra support PS2 backups?

it's good for games that support it :P

pretty much the only main game i see it for (i haven't really searched) is his example: singstar. it allows you to import songs or something from previous games.

Just a quick note about the PS1 BIN+CUE support - I managed to patch ps1_netemu.self and in the next update the it will be possible to select one of the emulators. The changes are similar to the ps1_emu.self and don't use payloads/functions which break other apps.

Somewhat, the cobra usb will allow you to use ps2 bacups on any ps3 with the right firmware but the amount of ps2 games that run properly on ps3's with no backwards comaptability is somewhat limited due to the fact that it will need to use the ps3's ps2 software emulator which is far from perfect.

PS: cobra usb also allows you to run some psp games on the ps3 but again the games supported by this feature is limited since it also uses a software emulator built into the ps3.

i wonder what that means for rebug users and how well bc works if people crack it without the need of the dongle.

is this gonna be the only change or is this just one of the bigger changes in the next update?

That's why I explicitly said "any ps3 with the right firmware" instead of simply saying all ps3's, but I guess I should have made that more clear in my post.

Also while its true that it kinda sucks that the limited ps2/vita playing feature was removed from FW 4.30, there's nothing stopping you from staying on 3.55 while using cobra usb if ps2/psp support is important to you.

Especially since upgrading and downgrading from 3.55 to 4.30 is pretty easy as long as you have a console that is already hacked.

As far as I know, Sony has improved the PS2 emulator (ps2_netemu) since 3.70, and now is releasing PS2 games (trough PSN/SEN, just like they did with PS1 games) that runs with that emulator, such games works on both BC and non BC consoles.
The good news is that flat_z, according to his twitter, has managed to decrypt the ps2_netemu. Maybe in the future he can release something to play any PS2 game on non BC consoles, Or Estwald, Deank or someone else could patch the ps2_netemu, just like they did with the ps1_emu.

      NOOB QUESTION:
I was out for a while, so i was wondering: what should i do to play PSX games on mM? I mean, what formats are supported? Where do i put the games? And what should i do to make them run perfectly?
Thank you all! And thank you for the new release, great Deank.

that thread will give you a lot of details but to sum it up: Make a PSXISO folder on the root of your drive and then make whatever folder name and put bin/cue in there. That is the most recommended but just about all formats work, just not as well. If a game has like a music cd portion, it won't work except in bin/cue.

So, img and iso are not supported, right? Should i patch something, or just put the games inside the folder and play? Can i put a cover inside the folder?
