when you pick a video file in multiman for the 1st time it will prompt you to download the multiman showtime plugin,
from then on when you choose to play a video file in file manager it will launch it within showtime

there is no cinavia protection in showtime which will allow TS etc. if you don't want to wait for a DVD rip

what do you mean you can't update from 1.16.15? I was on the 1.16.15 and when I tried to update pressing L3/R3 can't remember which one it is, I got a message reading that I was on the latest version. I still downloaded the update, and installed it from install package files and it worked. I am on 1.16.16. nav to where the video is saved hdd0/video I think. pres (x) and showtime comes up. you need showtime installed go to http://www.psxstore.com/ for showtime and anything else you may want to install. a little off topic but it's ok I think. lol

download the update by pressing R3 in multiman. connect your console to the internet
