  • multiMAN v04.20.01 -- Includes mM Tools Updates

Deank is back again and has updated multiMAN tools to be compatible with mM 4.20.00+: lastGAME, bdRESET and gameDATA. In this update deank has some nice new additions to mM. He has provided support for the lastGAMES to load PS1 backups from the "Load Last Title" icon that resides on the XMB. Added support for Emulator-grouping selection in the SIDE menus in the RETRO Column, also improvements to discless compatibility now allows for skipping mandatory gamedata install for some games. There is also a fix: last state save when loading "bd-mirror" / "ext. game data" games. For all details on the improvements and changes in v04.20.01 checkout the official changelog below from deank below

thanks. curious about this not needing to install gamedata. really? it just skips that whole process??

      EDIT*
only for some games yes, but any certain criteria? or just trial and error?

That is an exciting feature. great work!

He cant try every game so it going to be trial and error would be my assumption.

If i had to guess any small data installs should work. Larger ones that would be where i would assume issues would arise. but i haven't tried and just a pure guess. Maybe @deank can give some additional details.

Yes I am looking for the same info, which games no longer need gamedata installation?

as for any other compatibility list it'll take time to compile (or be added to existing lists), that being said all user feedback is/will be needed

From my understanding, when game data is installed, it is moved from the disc to the harddrive. Given MM works from the harddrive, he probably managed to figure out how to map the structure in a way where the PS3 thinks the data is already installed on the harddrive and pulls it from the disc (emulated by the harddrive) itself.

This is assuming the data is not compressed on the disc itself and the installation procedure does not have to extract the data (otherwise the data would need to be extracted first)

good point which could be the reason that some work and some do not

yes. also, for some games, it relies on those datas to facliate smoother loadings as well as pre-loading the stages. However, I, for one, cannot be sure about those extra datas being installed.

but i think they does this to reduce the wear on the lasers. i don't mind the data install, as long as it doesn't take too long.

When the PS3 scene first started I messed around with this to see if I can delete disc data (which I thought was moved onto the harddrive) to see if the game would still run fine. It was a small game (maybe borderlands 1) around 4gb. The installation data was around 4gb. I moved over a lot of things including movies (I'm not sure if this was borderlands or not still). So I deleted the duplicates that were both in the installation and game disc to see if it were to run properly and it did not.

So I'm guessing, the PS3 tries loading resources from the disc but then is notified to load it from the harddrive instead (maybe by the eboot). However, missing data on the disc it doesn't get to that point yet.

that would mean, it not the eboot but the .ini and the settings. if we can figure out which one tell the ps3 to load the resources from, we can probably eliminate the need to install game data. however, i've alway assumed that installing game data would mean faster loading, which is noticeable on some fighting games, but it still have considerable loading time.

however, if the game data is presented on the hdds itself without the need to install game data, then all we have to do is figure out if the eboot or the .ini that tells the ps3 to run from disc or gamedata. i image this would require considerable research.

      Hi
When i try to update MM via i-net from my console it gave me some error. Do i need to install the full version off MM 4.20.01?

I could be missing something with this. But is their A way to turn off the thing that makes my disk pop out when starting Mm. I have an older ps3 and it's apparently not strong enough to pull the disk back in when it ejects. It's late and I cannot remember what it does when it pops out but it's right when Mm loads up.

If you read the announcement you'll see that multiMAN 04.20.00 BASE or FULL is required.

mM ejects/re-inserts the disc ONLY if it is not an original PS3 game disc.

One request @deank . Is there a way copying time can be improved on games with plentiful smaller files such as Resident Evil? I understand MM copies file-wise and not MB-wise.
Can MM do that MB-wise like windows?

[BTW, I use FTP for such games which works faster.]
    1. deank's Avatar

FTP and file/folder copy use the same functions in mM. The issue is the way the PS3 handles FAT32 USB drives and there is nothing that can be further optimized than it currently is.

his payload. he pretty much the perfect one that is small, independent and easy to port to other firmwares which is why he didn't drop support for 3.55

what i'm curious about, besides skipping game data install, is how psx last game works. if i had to guess, it's telling it what game it recently loaded cause it's not putting the whole image in there since it's only a few megabytes, kinda like how for ps3 games it just like puts the eboot in there. so, i guess maybe i do get how it works by it loading the emu and letting it know where the file is.

decided to really give this new payload a go since i've been obsessed with psx image support
anyways, seems like discless works with games i remember working discless like raging blast 1 and 2 but i just tried out x men destiny and it didn't work with and without bd mirror turned on. idk how many bd mirror games i have cause i think in the past that is what usually would mean a game would not work discless is if it needed bd mirror. i could be talking out of my ass though cause i couldn't really back that up

oh, and now this is specific for you @deank . can you only skip data install if the game works discless? cause i don't wanna test it with a few games cause their install takes a long ass time and if you get better chance with it being discless, i'll try that out first and then skipping game install. oh, and how are you supposed to do it? is it automatic?
right now i'm sitting through a lengthy game install. it's not terrible, but it's still 10 or so minutes of waiting (whereas i have a game that took over an hour)

well, sorcery is a game i have but haven't played in a long ass time cause i got stuck and gave up quickly intending to retry but never did. anyways, it works discless now and without bd-mirror needing to be on but that might be because i think it only needed to be on to install game data. idk though i'm ballsy enough to delete the game data and go through that grueling process of waiting hours for it to install. i guess i'm just trying to get confirmation on if not needing to install game data is automatically done and if it would work better when i know the game can play discless.

lastGAME still needs mM installed so it can find the patched emulators. Other than that it loads the payload on its own, maps the paths and starts the emulator.

About skipping game-data install: it is what some games do. There is no way to control it, but some games detect that they're started from /app_home (development mode) and don't bother with installing the data.
