  • multiMAN Cobra Manager - mmCM ver 04.00.00 - Works Without the Dongle

    Today's mmCM (multiMAN Cobra Manager) update brings with it a very big surprise. Those without the dongle are now able to use the latest release of this back-up manager, made famous by developer deank. Also announced is a new feature to be on the look out for, experimental PSX multidisc support.

    * Added support for jpg/png covers for BD/DVD ISO files in "Coverflow" mode

    * Added PIC1.PNG/SND0.AT3 (background image and music) support to lastGAME and "PSP Launcher" for PSP ISO files

    * Improved performance when extracting CSO to ISO and when creating ISO files from folders

    * SIXAXIS gyroscope affects screensaver mode (wave/tilt the controller to navigate the starfield)

    * Improved "Coverflow" display mode

    * Added preparations for experimental support for multi-disc PSX games in CUE+BIN or ISO format for up to 4 discs. ("Required Cobra USB/FW update will be announced when PSX multidisc support is available")

    * mmCM 04.00.00 will work without CobraUSB dongle connected (click HERE for more information). New mmCM users will have to install mmCM 04.00.00 FULL version..
    Recent Changelog: For users on the original multiMAN, and not mmCM
    Changelog (for users updating from multiMAN 02.09.02 to multiMAN/mmCM 04.00.00):
    ================================================== ==============================

    * Added function "Create ISO from folder"
    * Support for *.0/.31, *.001/.032, *.66600/.66631 split file formats
    * Join split files in file manager (select and copy the first file to get the rest joined)
    * New display mode "XBDM" - XBOX Dash Clone
    * Added option "Detect Game Title in ISO Images" to allow using ISO filenames and *not* scan for game names in local database

    * mmTM - Easy to use PC application to create thm files from folders (separate download).
    * multiMAN/mmCM will try to read disc volume labels and display in VIDEO column (BD/DVD entry) and in other display modes.
    * Added indication (rotating refresh icon next to the column icon) when multiMAN/mmCM is loading/extracting title thumbnails (XMMB mode)
    * Added pop-up notifications when new versions of multiMAN/mmCM and Showtime are available for download
    * Added pop-up notification when running low on disc space (less than 1GB on internal HDD)
    * Added pop-up notification when multiMAN/mmCM successfully connects to nethost folders during startup (/net_host# in File Manager)
    * Added support for downloading themes in a background thread (pop-up messages will notify user when download starts and completes)
    * Added support for copying big (4+GB) files in File Manager to USB drives. multiMAN/mmCM will split source file when copying to USB.

    * Added shortcut (virtual folder) "XMB Video Files" when browsing HDD/USB drives in VIDEO column
    * Added "Showtime Font Preference" option to select 10 different fonts for SHOWTIME media player (GUI and Subtitles)
    * Added support to extract PSP CSO (compressed ISO) files in XMMB/XBDM display modes and File Manager (extracted image is saved in /dev_hdd0/PSPISO)
    * Added shortcut to ISO folder when browsing external USB devices (PSP connected with memory stick /ISO folder, containing CSO and ISO files)
    * Added music playback fade-out when leaving multiMAN/mmCM
    * Added download progress indication in XMMB/XBDM modes - Web column. An entry will show current download filename and percentage of completion.
    * Added TextViewer in File Manager (supported files colored in light blue). Supports viewing of ANSI/UTF plain text files.
    * TextViewer controls: L1/R1 - PageUp/PageDown, L2/R2 - zoom out/in (50%-250%), R3 - change font, UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT - scroll/pan, L1/R1+SELECT - skip to start/end of file
    * Added support for browsing Video, Games, Favorites and Retro (ROMS/PS1/PS2/PSP) in "Coverflow" display mode. Change content mode with UP/DOWN.
    * Improved performance when extracting CSO to ISO and when creating ISO files from folders
    * SIXAXIS gyroscope affects screensaver mode (wave/tilt the controller to navigate the starfield)
    * Improved "Coverflow" display mode
    It is interesting that we have not seen anymore official releases from deank. Perhaps this is the only way we will be getting our multiMAN fix from now on. Only time will tell...

      If you're going to do it, then get the True Blue dongle. It has all the functionality of Cobra along with the capability to play FW 3.56+ games.

      The Multi Disk support for PSX games will like PSX2PSP then which will be nice.

      Then again from reading the comments, I take it this will not work fully unless you have the Cobra USB right? Then why post it saying "works without Dongle"? Kind of gets everyone going with false hope.

      afaik it means that u need their dongle only 4 special function of Cobra like PSP/PS2/PSX games/ISO/CSO etc.

      TB on the other hand supports only 3.6+ games so hope they ll join 2gether/reverse each other in2 1 dongle

      multiMAN CM works without the dongle because you're able to use it on CFW 3.55 without having to have the Cobra dongle. Everything you're able to use in multiMAN works. CobraUSB's bread and butter is the extra features such as those listed in the change log aka PSX/PS2/PSP from harddrive iso/cso support. It's no different than shareware software on a computer. You can see that it's there, it even lets go scroll down to it, but when you click, it tells you to get the full version, but in this case, it tells you to goto Cobra USB - Ultimate PS3 USB solution! - Product and purchase the dongle to use the feature.

      Some may or may not find it useful. Someone already stated that it works with the CFW that installs with/for TrueBlue. Only people getting false hope are the ones reading the changelog and automatically thinking they're going to get the same features for free that other paid for with the dongle.

      bitsbubba has confirmed (in this thread if you read the posts) that it works with other CFWs. He used it on True Blue FW with no problems.

      Errrrr ok the TB dongle allows the running of dev eboots patched over original for 3.6+ games to work. (my few 3.56 games work tyvm thanks to the modified eboot and param). It doesnt support the features that cobra has.....fact. LOL do you work for the true blue team?

      OK, then what the post should have said was what it will ONLY allow you to do and what it will not allow. If it does allow for certain things, what CFW is required. Instead of just mentioning what it can do making some of us wonder WTH. Becouse it does state on the post, " Works without Dongle". Meaning it should work fully. Not partially. Either that or say, "Being a tease" or "Only certain funtions work without Dongle".

      I've been very happy with this update. I am happy that this version of multiMAN can play with or without any Dongle. Of course if you want to have the extra options in Cobra to work in multiMAN, you gotta get the COBRA USB Dongle. Deank did a wonderful job in making his backup manager work with everything out there from dongles to just free CFW. I use TrueBlue, and it works great. I also like that this new version of multiMAN supports EXT GAME DATA feature in True Blue.

      Deank and Cobra Team, wonderful work! I can't wait for the updates!!

      P.S. the only thing I wish to learn is if we should install the lastGAME2_COBRAUSB.pkg and bdRESET_COBRAUSB.pkg also? Or are they exclusively just for COBRA USB? And we should just keep using the older versions of these packages from the previous version of multiMAN?

      It's spelled out for you in black and white (or whatever color you see on your monitor). It can't get any clearer than that! If you choose not to read it, then it's your own fault. It's not teasing anyone, it's not misleading, you're just choosing what you do and do not want to accept. mmCM installs and works without the dongle, point blank and simple! Stop whining about you not getting what you think you should for free, because it's coming off as sad and pathetic. No one is going to hold your hand and spoon feed you every intricate detail.

      Do I personally agree with it? Hell NO! Do like what they're doing or what True Blue is doing? Again, Hell NO! Devs have been sharing findings about the PS3 since the beginning. For these two companies to pop up out of basically nowhere and to start charging for things they've found, is crap IMHO. But ya know what, whomever felt like it's worth making money off of and that's what they're doing. If you don't like it, complain to them directly. Don't get upset because information is reported/stated what currently is possible on a forum.

      CobraUSB charges to use features that are considered to be "exclusive". They've released multiMAN Cobra Manager as a gimme. It's marketing ploy to get people to buy their product. Companies do it all the time and this is no different! You can use majority of it's features. It's exclusive things that you can't get anywhere else, they're charging for it and tells you "If you want more to use those features buy our product."

      it is a little misleading, the whole text reads like its more of a hybrid MM cobra dongle features but its just a manager that works with the cobra dongle.
      Anyway don't get so worked up over it lol its not that big of a deal.
      Little disheartening but the life goes on.

      No, no. I don't work for them. Just very misinformed.

      I think the problem is that there is a bit of confusion with this release of multiMAN. I think if it would have just been released as another multiMAN major update (with the bonus that it now supports all CFW and Dongles), a lot of the drama and confusion would have not been so ugly as it is now. Keep in mind folks that during multiMAN 02.03.00 (or something?), multiMAN was already supporting Cobra (read the logs).

      Nevertheless, I am happy to see an update to multiMAN. It was on pause for a while. I am now enjoying it, and also happy to provide theme updates to people's previous favorites.. here is the link: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f192/mul...packer-100165/ (multiMAN Cobra Manager (mmCM) Theme Packer)

      So why is it that in multiMAN (the old version) was telling us there was a new update 04.00.00 online? Who controls the server where these updates are placed for it so the program can self update when a new update is available?

      I think this release was a collaboration between deank and Cobra. Which is fine with me. I love the new features--aside that I don't use Cobra USB Dongle.

      ''Nice'' post........geez its roughly £20 uk quid............maybe i have the fortunate ability of being an adult, knowing old school scene morals and knowing that if theres a jail.......you can break it! the features are there theres just (unfortunately) a dongle to get! Or you can be the bright spark and answer other peoples prayers by giving us all a wonder cfw on 4.00!

      three options for kids...........wait PATIENTLY until a lovely dev makes your day

      save up pocket/allowance money (its not even expensive!) or ask for it for a birthday/xmas! (shame its january).

      be a hero and release something for the scene to take it forward.

      For the Hdd compatibilty ive held off for months but its been so echoed on this post the features cobra brings are for the time being (if forever) are exclusive. Only worry I have is I part with money then 2-30 days later its in software! Then Trolls like the above have access to stuff they bitch and flame about.

      Rant over.

      I believe all updates came from (mM and mmCM) Tortuga Cove if I read right when trying to d/l through mM

      There is no collaboration between DeanK and Cobra, but everyone sure thinks there is lol. Also funny this new feature (that the mmCM can be used on other CFW) was not confusing to us Cobra Users but again it sure is too a lot of users.

      It will be great for people who run two dongles or switch between CFW. Then you don't need to reinstall Multiman everytime. Pretty simple.
