      Guys, soldering is required.
You have to solder on both models.

      From the FAQ on the site;
How about installation for fat and slim ps3 console ?
The limited version need solder 34 wires on NAND FLASH FAT CONSOLE, it need use E3 LINKER.
The limited version need solder 50 wires on NOR FLASH FAT CONSOLE,it need use E3 LINKER.
The limited version need solder some points on NOR FLASH SLIM CONSOLE, no need any wire.
      (from www .e3-tech.net/faq.html)

They said they're releasing a solderless version later, 2 different types one for the early PHAT models (40GB and earlier) and one for the Slim/post-40GB PHAT models & is limited to downgrading for early PHAT consoles.
We will release 2 new version E3 FLASHER at the end of this month.
      * One is 256M NAND flash on board and with CLIP, to get dual boot and no solder function.
      * Another is same as present E3 FLASHER but with CLIP, so all NOR flash console no need any solder at that time. (sure cost will higher)
      (from psx-scene.com/forums/content/e3-flasher-update-video-psn-online-1408/)
See they mention the second one being solderless for all NOR consoles rather than singling out the PHAT consoles.

but does e3 flasher able to downgrade only on fw 3.70 do i need 2 update from 3.60 2 3.70 and then downgrade to 3.55 as it doesn't look like that 3.60 will able to hack. and one other thing my debug was disabled as hackers said even up u update it would be still there

I remember reading somewhere that it doesn't matter if you're on 3.65 or 3.60, it still works.
but you might aswell update, there's no loss.

and yes, the QA Flagging didn't do anything the hackers said it would.
It's a useless waste of time.

I don't remember any promises about QA flagging (only speculation) I myself use it for downgrading and it works perfectly (also if you use REBUG it enables CEX options that weren't working on earlier versions)

Very true this device "e3 flasher" is proclaimed to downgrade slim solder-less I'm sure it a clip on though, and yes you would have to update to 3.70 to downgrade to 3.55

I don't believe so as I think they just say that as that's the common version people want to downgrade from. Why would 3.70 be the only FW you can downgrade from?

Yeah looks great indeed, especially for people stuck with 3.70 for a long time. I highly recommend purchase E3 Flasher from slickgate.com, where I got the ps3 cobra.

no all you have to do is put it in the same room as the ps3 as it states in the news and on the e3 website

The way I understand it, is the 3.70 is OFW while 3.55 is CFW

      So..................................

HDD1 with 3.70OFW: Runs 3.56+ Original discs only, no install package in XMB, no Homebrew, no loading games from HDD, no multiman, etc
HDD2 with 3.55CFW: Runs 3.55 or lower games plus a few higher games with 3.55 updates, install packages in XMB, Homebrew, games loading from HDD (not all games over 3.56)

so basically it's like having 2x consoles in one where console 1 (HDD2) is modded with 3.55cfw and console 2 (HDD1) is standard with ofw

@Fantazar I'm pretty sure 3.70OFW will run all games with original discs not just 3.56 and above.

my question is can u use a hdd from another console that already has cfw 3.55 on it. reason im asking is cuz i have 2 ps3's, 1 slim with 3.70 ofw and a fat with cfw 3.55. i really like the idea of only having to use 1 console to either sell the other or just keep it for backup. aslo with this idea i wouldnt have to wipe my hdd to put 3.70 on it and have to downgrade it to 3.55.

Right lets make this completely clear to everyone that can not read or understand this.

      1) Yes you have to solder on all machines fat or slim if you read the actual statement off there website you would no this.

      Code:
Q2:How about installation for fat and slim ps3 console ?
The limited version need solder 34 wires on NAND FLASH FAT CONSOLE, it need use E3 LINKER.
The limited version need solder 50 wires on NOR FLASH FAT CONSOLE,it need use E3 LINKER.
The limited version need solder some points on NOR FLASH SLIM CONSOLE, no need any wire.
      2) No you cannot sync your trophies from one firmware to another because of the different profiles and the different information that is stored to them. Only way is to somehow get PSN working on CFW and then do it that way.

      3) No you cannot use a HDD from another machine because the firmware is stored on both the chips and the HDD for slim models so it would ask to format it to register it to the chips ID.

      Code:
Q3: How many Harddisk we need? What function with E3 Esata Station ?
As fact, you no need any extra HD because you can take out ps3 internal HD and put into E3 esata station. It will play like internal HD. Every time if you change FW, you will be required fomat and upgrade.
So if you want get more function like dual boot and fast switch FW function, you need prepare another HD for another FW, just like you will get 3.7HD for 3.7FW, 3.55HD for 3.55FW, all will be regards as internet HD. With E3 esata station, the internal HD size can be MAX to 2.5T, compatiable 2.5&3.5' HD with MAX to 3G speed , and also works 4GB+ game well ,this means no need USB HD anymore .
      4) No matter what you think or say about this supposedly being solder less that will probably be in the next version of the E3 Flasher. That being said we are not sure if they will release anymore or not "3000" limit is not a good start tbh.

      5) If you really need more information then please go to the E3 website and look at the product and the FAQ's they have already been answered.

      6) There is no information from the E3DIY Team as to whether or not you have to update to 3.70 but i think that it will probably be in the best interests. I think that is because that is the current OFW so it is better to test with this rather than an a lower FW such as 3.66 or 3.60 etc... You should still be able to flash the NOR/NAND regardless of what FW you are running.

If you really don't understand this then i am affraid you will have to wait for the Devs to release something a NOOB can understand.

All i can say is that mine is ordered and i will post results once i have them.

Thanks to them for allowing this wonderful piece of hardware.

I think the originator wanted to know about games higher than CFW
I mean, of course OFW will run every original PS3 disc that's been released, that's just common sense

Where did you order from Gazra?
Mine is on order from Modchipcentral.

I probably should've waited for the second "no solder" NAND version.

I just hope they have thoroughly tested it out on the NAND consoles.

Not sure if I put the right 3 digit code off the back of the card though (the first digit is impossible to read, so I went by memory and hope I got it right).
No biggie if I didn't get the code right. I will simply cancel the order and wait for the second version to come out.
