....and how did Sony update YOUR PS3? The only way my PS3 has EVER been updated is if I did it. Please tell me how Sony did this, I'm sure that I'm not the only one here wondering how Sony took control of your PS3 against your will and updated your FW.

i dont think so ,i read that it was solderless for thr slim and that it dont even work on the fat for a dual boot, just downgrade, but at the end of the month they are going to have 2 new models and it will be solderless for both consoles ,and it will have dual boot for fat as well
but now im reading this total production run 3000 units, so i dont know if that means just this model or the new ones too
doesnt really seem too economically feasable though, i mean add it up 88 bucks for the unit and the hdd switvhing station thing is extras, plus shipping ,and the cost of a 2nd hdd ,and now your at almost the price of a used ps3 anyways, so kinda pointless really, unless everyone clones it and the price drops to like 40 bucks for the unit and the hdd station

Nice update regarding this. Thank you devs for your hard work. Slim = no solder but you will have to open your console.

I can't see how this is needed. I probably played all the games I had on my list before 3.60 and if there wont be a new CFW, I'll just update and buy those games (like I always did). Sorry, but 88 bucks only for Homebrew is too much for me (thought i need a 2nd HDD).

well i live alone and i had auto update off and the latest fw out was 3.66 and my ps3 was only updated to 3.60 not 3.66 and the only other thing i have done was change internet provider from eircom to upc so i reckon sony updated it when i changed internet provider

Sweet little unit but for 88$ its a total waste of money/time. If you figure in the tax and shipping its probably atleast 110$. Opening the console and soldering is for me another 100$ labour/frustration... and there's the possibility of ruining the entire unit. If you people updated your console, and now can't come to terms with buying a new one then you deserve soldering boards and dual booting firmwares. Just wait until Sony finds out about this. If they thought geohot with a usbkey was bad, soldering boards onto their units will make them red. You figure a new console online is about 220-250$ used. Finding one with 3.55 maybe a little hard. I've only found 4 in local shops and they were around 240$ because of the firmware version. Buy a new console, and forget playing the latest games. And be happy that you have ANY homebrew at all available to you. Or buy a tricked out PC and play REAL games at REAL texture resolutions with ADvanced gpu acceleration

and also what happens when sony updates their FW again? this says for 3.7x... but we all know what happens when sony updates and updates... just keeps getting harder to find workarounds. Its gone from software mod of 3.55 to having boards soldered... I only did the original JB cuz of the 'coolness' factor of 'hacking' the ps3... now its just getting irritating with all these new firmwares and cobras and the like. The ps3 is a powerful machine, but at the end of the day, otheros++ is the best feature it ever had.

Outstanding logic, +1 for a great post!

"Sony must have known i was changing my internet, eircom told them they couldn't access my ps3 but, little did i know they have a deal with my new provider upc and as soon as i switched internet provider they had full control over my interwebz"

Let this be a warning to you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111!!1111

      Boo ****in' hoo.

If we really must discuss 'piracy/backups' if there is ever a 3.6x+ key release - guess what; you will still need a 3.55 CFW console to use them.

If there is a ever a 3.6x+ key release the keys will be added to the 3.55 appldr (so the 3.55 CFW can decrypt 3.6x+ games)

Unless something really fancy happens, there will be no 3.6x CFW (only 3.6x+ enabled 3.55 CFW).

Ride the jailbreak train or piss off - bunch of spoilt kids with their 'novelty hacking'.

It comes with an ESATA station, he actually swaps the hard drives in one of the videos, it takes like 10 seconds.

Do we have to open our ps3s to install? Because it looks external.
