mmOS- Massive Update to mmCM aka multiMAN

GaryOPA has just shared some hot news! Apparently, the reason behind the lack of recent mmCM aka multiMAN updates is due to mmOS aka multiMAN Operating System (one assumes). This new version will include: currently 8 windows, opening of various files via double-clicking, and so much more with even more to follow. This release is currently said to be scheduled for release before the month is up.

mmOS will replace the current filemanager in mmCM aka multiMAN, as well as work for both those with and without the Cobra-USB.

Features:

supports 8 windows with up to 4096 entries per folder
double-click to launch video/music/picture/games...
single-click to multiple-select for copy/move
desktop icons for fast access to various options/functions
(shortcuts for showtime, games, themes, user created shortcuts)

Hi, this is my first comment. It looks amazing I have a question: is newer version of multiman (mmcm 04.x) okay to be used with true blue? I mean, no problem with the games crashing or any incompatibilities? I'm currently using multiman 02.09 now. Sorry for my English

Yes you can use mmCM 4.xx and it is recommended

this is all well and good but whats the point of having that many windows open at one time? Not to sound ungrateful but all i want out of multiman is the ability to play games that use split files rather than having to install them to the ps3 hdd

so i'm assuming playing videos by double clicking executes showtime or the PS3's very own media player

No, not yet. But seeing as it is being developer by the Cobra Team, you can safely assume that will be one of the dongle features, well... there are others ways too (just not for the PS2 )

This will allow for easy copy, and pasting, without loosing your place. Just look at any operating system, or even web browser... they all have windows/tabs for users to multi-task.

I would assume Showtime, as they have suggested a shortcut to go directly to Showtime already. Plus, Showtime is just way more superior

Is sbowtime better? I have it and update it regualry but use ps3 natice ps3 player.

the native ps3 player is embarassing compared to showtime. The native player is very limited on what formats and codecs it supports. Plus with ShowTime you get the support for all the web based streaming video. Navi-X is awesome by the way

certainly the Cobra/TB money injection is paying off (nice touch to make it an all in exclusive marketing prop for dongle sales)

Very interesting news. I just wish we could tweak CFW to boot straight to it. Surely it is not hard to do. Would be the same as disc auto start.

That would be great if it could end up being like the original XBox custom dashboards. Instead of doing an autostart I'd like to see it as a complete XMB replacement but PSN game booting and booting all games directly from multiMAN would have to be worked out. If he keeps updating like he is, it might be closer than we think

I agree fully. But the disc auto start could be an easy/easier implementation until one could accomplish XMB replacement, otherwise it would have been done already. Setup multiMAN to automatically choose the new file manager as one does with themes and change/modify CFW to treat multiMAN as a disc and auto start. We would still have to deal with the original XMB due to some games needing a disc etc.

I like the file manager how it is... I don't want to have to double click to open a folder.. I like being able to just press one button to open the folder, and then press a different button just once to then move/copy/whatever.

For me personally, this seems a little pointless so far but I guess we'll see how good it is once it is actually launched. If it is a dongle only feature, they better include the old file manager still for people without the dongle or it would just be taking the piss.
