PSX-SCENE Forum Discussion for Sony PlayStation/PsOne/PS2/PS3/PSP/PS VITA
  • Lets Talk Game Modding - Future & Present

Many a game I purchase have a predetermined lifespan. You either research the game before purchase, or are a follower of the series. What I want to talk about here is the replay-ability of a game. I for one never replay a game; once done, it's shelved for use by family or friends, even with download content. Lets face it, not everyone lives for online play, especially when running a custom firmware. So what does the PSX-Scene bring to such said topic?

Enter the world of game modding...

A prime example and exclusively to PSX-Scene is the developers behind GTA IV. These include, in random order: Colt, Emmanuel U, EvilB, HuN, JDMAlex, jumper, keredor, nativesith, ribonucleic, rodd1981, Three-Socks (we apologize if we forgot anyone, and that goes without saying for the rest of this article as well)

We have had an abundant amount of game mods to GTA IV that has brought more advancements to this game, released years ago, than even the developers of the game have released. FREE mods generously added by devoted developers here at PSX-Scene...

The future of CONSOLE game modding?

Game modding has truly become something amazing, as it breathes new life into old games. The PC is obviously the game modders choice versus a console, but those who choose to mod PS3 games are showing others scenes that the PC is not the only place to go for mods. Amazing work has been done in our GTA IV, MK9, and Skyrim sub-sections.. things some may have thought would never happen.

We are also seeing game saves being transferred from PC to PS3, which can be considered a sign of great things to come, perhaps we will see more PC mods make an appearance on PS3 consoles.

Another aspect of game modding to consider is what CMP aka CodeMasters-Project does. They release cheats for users to enhance their games. It seems nothing can stop these guys, as they have been releasing cheats for a long, long time. I still have trouble believing I am talking to the actual Skiller sometimes, and it all seems like something from a dream...

We can only hope more people take an interest in this great sub-scene of scenes that is game modding. The more people who know how to do it... the more things we will see come into fruition. Well, what are you waiting for? Grab the latest CMP Auto Tools and starting making your own cheat files today. Why wait for someone else's cheat that you might end up not wanting to use anyways? Here is a link: CMP Auto Tools Version 6.3

    GTA V modding?

This is determined on a couple of factors presently. Those factors are RockStar and Sony, and what, if any, attempts they make to prevent this game from being hacked/modded day one. Obviously, it would make sense for a company to try and prevent their product from being altered the first day of release... But another factor to consider is the modders. What drives a modder? Well, take for instance a game like GTA V. Some will play the game, and after thoroughly enjoying it, will want to take the game farther. So while we may not see day one mods for GTA V (who knows though, we just might), give the game modders some time to beat the hell out of the game before they decide to start taking it apart and making it loads better.

    Other game mods?

    Mortal Kombat 9

If you want the most of of MK9, there is no question... PSX-Scene is the place to be! With a great team of modders such as LilGrim, rstabbs71, futuretime23, and Tetzrep; there are new things to try out almost every day. From custom characters, to unlocks, and so much more. It is amazing to see the work that has been done on this game, and I know personally for me it is great to see Mortal Kombat back on top of the hill of fighting games. As MK continues it's legacy, rest assured a supreme team of modders will be there to bring you everything and more!

    Skyrim

Some of you may know there are some big updates coming to Skyrim next month. It seems Bethesda has finally figured out the screwy PS3, and have been able to functionally add their DLC to the console. This may mean different things for the modding scene of this game, as the PS3 scene does not know what steps Bethesda or Sony have taken to make these DLCs function correctly on the PS3. In other words, our great team of Skyrim modders (seifer69er, DEREKTROTTER, selyb) might have to start from scratch. All I can say, is expect great things from the hard working modders here at PSX-Scene, and all across the web!

    PS3 Game Modding

Be sure to click the link above for the all the latest and greatest in game modding for the PS3. And also be sure to subscribe to a couple of threads while you are there, because the updates don't stop rolling in here at PSX-Scene.

A big thank you to all of the game modders here, and at CMP; and all around the globe, too. And thanks to all the supporters out there. On that note, exit is to the left haters! Just kidding Some hate it, some love it... But we except a civilized conversation from our members, so please don't bash people over their views. Now go and enjoy some game mods!!!

So, if we are talking about console modding, let's discuss something.
In Sixth generation of consoles (ps2, xbox, ect) modding was extremely difficult in most, and available only to the most advanced coders team with abnormally perfect skills - this is because that generation was very different then pc version of games in technology side.
And with coming ps3&x360 seventh generation we got not actually console, now we have gaming pc's, their internal game resource now do not differ to PC (almost), and modern console modding just made the jump to the next level, now we can simply copy some PC mods to ps3 and it's will be work great without porting. Some time ago, try to replace for example "handling" file in GTA SA, rebuilding iso be boring affair and then game most like will just crash, and so was happened almost every time you try to do this in the past.
But there is another different: pc have very much more spare memory for stable work with mods, but consoles not, that's why even if we can replace vehicles in gta with custom - it's will hard lag, and nothing to do with it.

      Now times changed:
minus: mods can be unstable now and backup may have bigger size.
plus: everyone can make mods! Not only skilled programmers as previously!

This thread is crazy , it is a look into I mind!? I been thinkin aboot all of dis. San Andreas, III, Vice City, IV will ave PC mods converted soon.
We are soo close to knowin all aboot the enc file structure of the PSN PS2 games. Many PC files will work from PC to ps2. Been like six months since anyone first seen it and it is cracked sons!
This is what is gowan to happen with V. Any file structure produced will be eventually cracked.
I am also lookin into convertin many PC scripts to Ps3, as we speak,WEIRD!

Any effort that comes to Modding from PC to Console is Highly Respected,
And it should be its time well spent both way's if thing's go's good
A faster results and if thing's go down hill then the developer is learning from it.
No matter how big or how wide the challenge maybe
The ending scenario most of the time is that it feels damn good
And its a plus when other's get the same feeling by sharing it .

One bad side of all of this is when people get other people's work
and start charging for something that was already Free From the get go.
I have seen that a lot with Call of Duty mod's back in the day.

      @nativesith
      ya'll team Rock's bro!
      Keep up the hard work.
converting file's from PC Mod's over to Console's
Is a Huge Achievement to the Modding world.
The recent superman mod was wick sick and
I can't wait to see what's to come next......

      About GTA V modding...
I wish first time it's will not be editable (or read-only), cos i'm afraid of cheaters with simple godmod in multiplayer, it's will kill GTA V multiplayer very fast, cos now cfw users can unban console after useing cheats in multiplayer and this is sad.
