KaKaRoTo, most recently famous for his custom firmware PUP, has just tweeted some very exciting news. Finally , PS3 users everywhere will be able to downgrade their 3.55 consoles. KaKaRoTo, with the help of fellow dev, Xtse, has stated that he successfully downgraded his 3.55 console to 3.41. However, due to the possible risk of bricking your console, he is not quite ready to reveal the method. We assume that once he has perfected his method, a public release will be made for all. Stay tuned, for more info, as it becomes available to us.

sad news.. downgrade worked, but not reliable, only works with one of Xtse's ps3s, but can't reproduce it..I'm going to look for another way about 6 hours ago via web

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the love the work done by KaKaRoTo on the PS3, however is a downgrade where the scene should be heading? We have custom firmware on 3.55 now - so now it needs modifications to run backup managers whilst signed - or a kernel exploit to run unsigned code (dongleless) instead of everyone dropping back to a firmware with no PSN. I know 3.55 is less likely to be updated by Sony as quick (therefore removing PSN) by not having backup managers on 3.55 but with the keys surely it wouldn't matter and it would only be a small fraction of the time before a new custom firmware is released that would allow PSN again.

Wish I could help more but I lack the programming skills needed

Downgrades, Upgrades, Custom Firmwares, Homebrew Galore, Hacks, Fixes and all that stuff. My Linux will be back soon :-)

Something has only just occurred to me.

What is PSGroove going to advertise on their site after all these programmable USB sticks become irrelevant with the release of a proper CFW? This I will be interested to see ^^

Fortunately I have already made use of my X3Max dongle, I have programmed it into a security dongle for my Laptop, my computer now won't login without it ^^

Its a little bit pointless, I may re-programme to something more useful soon xD

WTF does Downgrading from 3.55 to 3.41 have to do with running Backup Manager on 3.55? For starters you are DOWNGRADING FROM 3.55 back to 3.41.....

Id say yes if your a Slim Owner (unless they have managed to change the Downgrade Method) and possibly No if your a PHAT PS3 owner.

lol it's crossed my mind, if there is anything particular that you'd be interested in, let me know

I was thinking possibly hard drive upgrades, ps3 controllers and accessories.

Nah I think PSGROOVE Will continue. But will give us news regarding Homebrew and hacks e.g. Custom Firmware etc. Plus I hope this site stays.... I cannot access PS3News at work so I hope this site stays up!

I do not want to lose my data by down grading. Or getting bricked. Hopefully someone can test this.

btw if I downgrade will I be able to run a back up launcher on a lower firmware if I don't have a dongle? sorry to sound like a noob...

But still. Will I able to use back up launchers on 3.41? I thought the problem was 3.55 users can't do it but 3.41 users without a dongle could?

Please no Downgrade to 3.41 - Only a Custom 3.55 for Homebrew, without Warez Support (BackupManagers) like the 3.41

The Warez Freaks want this. See in this Thread. But the Real Scene want this not. We want Custom.

Although we all know 90% of us want it for back up launchers. Most people won't even care if we can't use back up launchers.

Although I am curios. If I downgrade. Is it possible the hackers can do something to prevent people from using a back up launcher? or are they just not putting one in?
