Jaicrab Announces Exciting New CFW + Free CobraUSB Functionality

Jaicrab, a well known Spanish developer, has announced a new custom firmware project that he has been working on. Now before gamers get too excited, they should expect that this new custom firmware will be based on 3.55 and will not allow the playback of 3.6x games. With that being stated, it appears Jaicrab has some exciting new features planned for his CFW.

One such feature, will be the ability to multitask applications. For example, if a user is playing a game they'd also be able to FTP into their system, if they so choose.

In addition, he plans to include CobraUSB functionality without the necessity of the costly dongle. The inclusion of free CobraUSB functionality does seem very plausible. Jaicrab recently published a block of hex code prefaced by "Greetings to the Cobra TEAM", which leads us to believe he has decrypted the official dongle.

Furthermore, he states that there will be a Startup Plugins Manager included in his CFW, but he didn't elaborate on it's functionality.

Well, you could have at least changed the hash tables from PSGroove.

******g hell it took all of one post before someone was complaining and one more before someone mentioned 3.60.. I wish to god someone would please ban these idiots. THIS IS THE BEST RELEASE since the original 3.55 cfw, if you don't realize that and accept it for what it is then do the scene a favor and go walk into traffic or please, just STFU, you ungrateful sh!ts.

If this does become a CFW with all of cobra fuctionality that will be awesome. I can finally play my ntsc psx games on my pal console.

without the 3.6* cfw the scene is gonna die so stfu if people will stp asking for it nobody is gonna make it!

Keep the peace guys I think that this is going to be an incredible firmware if it has multitasking. That is something i always thought was missing form PS3. Anything you wanted to do in game would cause you to quit to XMB, not anymore though I believe 3.6+ CFW is already made, ready and workable but the devs are holding out for a ripe time. With all the suing and stuff going on lately as well as the new security systems in place, everyone is taking quadruple precautions.

I am just curious as to how this will work with all the apps currently supported on Kemeaw and orRebug or even the outdated Wutangerza, and will dean allow mutiman run in this and if so I hope that has something to do "Startup Plugins Manager" cause if mulitman can be set to start when powered up then regardless of what the fw can do all I need is multiman

I like the sound of the startup plugin thing, don't really know what it'd be but I look forward to that.My first thought was apps similar to the PSP, where we can launch a homebrew app on startup.Great job though, it's good to see progress like this.

looks awesome to me, with multitaskability I could finally write my cheatengine for PS3 <3 though it'll probably gonna take a while -.- then it would be way easier for me to have fun with a game after beating it. searching for cheats is just bothersome right now and waiting for em not really an option also mostly the are just not fun. Also I'm interested in the plugin startup manager

Multitasking is F*cking amazing to me. I once wrote an ICQ-Plugin for MediaPortal (which sadly never came over the alpha-stadium due to time issues) but such things like ICQ (or even a crosschat) would be possible with a multitasking CFW.

Wouldn't it be awesome when the CFWs have Cross-Game-Chat and the OFW don't?
