  • Iris Manager v2.15 Released

Ready for another Iris Manager update? PS3 Developer's D_Skywalk and Estwald who have developed and maintained the Open Source Backup Manager (Iris) created from the PSL1GHT SDK have another update bringing the application to version 2.15. In this update there has been some tweaks to the PSX_Payload, Square button will now eject/load disk, Fixed issues with the authentication of PS3 disc when copying, The disk in the tray will stop after 2 minutes of inactivity, among many other changes you can view below in the full change log for Iris Manager v2.15

    Changelog for v2.15
    (Rough Google Translation)
    • Fixed problem of authentication in PS3 discs when copying: if a problem occurs, the disc is ejected and auto load again, but has added a check for that to happen as little as possible or simply not happen.

    • Added SQUARE button to eject / load disk.

    • Now the disc into the tray stops after two minutes of inactivity approximate

    • Added L3/R3 to change category of games. Terminated L2/R2 buttons

    • Added syscall and jjolano libnet with FTP v2.3 (there is a version 3.0 with improvements, but I do not have the source code. The 2.3 is the one on github)

    • Added new system font with Japanese characters (and Western) to display the title of the game (you can not add language Japanese Iris in this way: it's just for game titles)

    • Some tweaks psx_payload

multiMAN does so much more as to why it take a little bit longer to load up

imo it doesn't really seem to load any quicker plus multiman is so pretty lol

I think Iris/Hermes Manager was designed to resemble WiiOS, as was Hermes's Wii backup manager

Didnt Dean sahvhis program ran slower (CPU wise) to make it less likely to overheat? I tried Iris and 5 out of 6 times it turned itslef off before I could even get to load a game, because it was "too hot".

There is one very importnat edge that Iris Manager has over multiMAN. Its an open source project.

Something that is vital in any homebrew community. Open source is what drives development in a homebrew scene like ours
I like multiMAN and deank alot i use it often and am apperciative of the work deank has put in.. but its something you cant deny that open source is way to be

While multiMAN may be better for some end user with its large feature set. For development and progression of homebrew IrisManager is much better. So iris manager should never be frown upon IMO.

Good news is multiMAN is set to be open source sometime soon. Hopefully it is sooner rather then later. I feel that is the proper move to make. Hopefully that brings the scene closer together for the common goal of unlocking the potential of our ps3 to the fullest.

funny is this seems more of a multiMAN thread than an Iris thread, lol, whether or not Dean goes open source or not I myself could care less. I don't think it will change the way the scene is. It won't spark the anti-pirate devs to release what they have any sooner if at all. It won't stop certain devs or users from slandering other devs or users. Nothing is going to change, except maybe $0nY might give up when PS4 is released

      Sorry I disagree.

i will try and keep this short because i don't want users to chime and and bash deank or Estwald (if they do enjoy the time off).. This is not what its about. Its about spreading the message of Open Source and Understanding the Importance of it and why IrisManager is a great asset in the scene. both developers do amazing things for this scene. Just in different ways.

but one example of the good from open source take RetroArch for example. would you say that by it being open source it has led to other things and other apps?

      Examples:
Pete_uk's unofficial builds wouldn't be here.
CaptainCPS-X Retro Loader for FBA wouldnt of been here. or his other RA tweaks
Or some of those other project i have been testing (everyone will see those soon enough ) but you know what i mean there.

Also without all the open source emus would there even be emulation on the ps3? they would all have to be written from the ground up not ported.

Also there is another exciting new app that i am testing and that is thanks to the Iris Manager source being open. I cant give details now i am just testing. Not my app to share details at this time. So just respecting the dev until they are ready which should be sooner rather then later.

      Open source is always good.
@bitsbubba you know i have mad respect for deank.. That shouldnt be a question. but i disagree here. You cant tell me ANY good that comes from something being closed versus open. I have no doubts that deank will make mM open

It makes you wonder why someone who used an open source bm to create MM is so stingy about keeping his bm close source it's a no wonder he's ( and others like him ) are despised by all the other open source devs out there, he said he *might* release his source code something that should have been done from the beginning , if he would have imagine how many other and possibly better bm options we would have today.

Here we go again with the OpenSource... mM 02.08.xx is opensource since June 2011... It has 30 clones on google-code... DID YOU ALL CONVENIENTLY FORGET ABOUT THAT?!

      https://code.google.com/hosting/sear...earch+projects

      https://code.google.com/r/stephanedi...s3/source/list

There is nothing to force me to publish all versions on google/github. Did anyone use 2.08.00 as it is open source?! Yes - the clowns from CodeUnique, the clowns from BlueDisc, the inner circle with their hidden CEX/DEX firmwares months before anything reached the scene and all for their private needs without posting their changes/source... Did anyone try to improve it or add features or fix bugs - NO. The only usage I've seen are small parts of mM in Iris and that's it. The only person who suggested changes and improvements is aldostools (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ALDO!).

A lot of people have mM's source code (just in case something happens with me).

So please cut the crap about mM not being open.

You know, the authors of Iris put a lot of time into this program. They deserve more thanks than evidenced. At the very least, if you are asking for a feature comparison, have the respect to frame a proper question.

You're a good man, deank, and a damn fine programmer. Open source or not, I use your software regularly. Don't let idjits get to you.

As for Iris, I also use it. It is an amazing piece of software and the community benefits immeasurably by having two well-developed and creator-loved bits of code.

Deank first of all don't take what i am saying as a bash towards you or to multiMAN, because it is not. You know i have supported you and multiMAN,

But you can not convince me that closed is better then open...You know that is fact. You have used open source to improve & create multiMAN, which is great that what a homebrew community is all about right?
Heck there are times where some sources stay unused for months even years. but they do end up getting used. To me its better to give the community that option. The source that is open from your own words is not the same source that multiMAN uses today unless i have understood that wrong..

We are a community are we not? We should work together instead of against each other which i think this scene does alot and no i'm not blaming you for that. That is a huge issue as a whole..

The only reason i bring up your Open Source is because people like to bash IrisManager but in reality they have given back to the homebrew development. You have as well by helping many developers with various issues. but not in the form of an open source project that can improve the homebrew of the scene. For people that may not know you directly they dont get as much help from multiMAN as they do Iris, would you agree?. Your help doesn't bring outside developers in as much as an Open source projects does. You know that as a developer

Dont get me wrong i think multiMAN is a bad ass app and you have done an AMAZING job and I appreciate all your work
but looking at open sources to improve while not letting the masses look at your open source is a bit of a double standard there.

A lot of people have mM's source code (just in case something happens with me).
Well i hope nothing happens to you. not because i want to see multiMAN updates but I do enjoy your presents in the scene, and i hope nothing happens to anyone as life is FAR more importnat then anything in this scene. but why do ALOT of people have the source but then others dont that to me isn't right. again that is your decision. but if you do have code that is being used from other apps you are required to make that open, so that really isn't your decision as much as a requirement. Again that is not a bash but simply stating fact.

There is nothing to force me to publish all versions on google/github
I would disagree there, just one example here

NOTE2: You can modify the program as you want, but please, make public the source code

I don't want to fight or cause any drama that is not my goal or my motive. You should know i have a ton of respect for you and i use multiMAN quiet often and very appreciative of the time it takes to code such a wonderful app.. As well as all the feature request of mine you have filled during the lifespan of multiMAN. Thank You!!!

But you know open is better then closed. That is just obvious.

So please cut the crap about mM not being open.
You shouldn't be mad at me for saying it should be open. It is required to be open.. So please dont take the negative appraoch to me. You know i am right in this but its not about being right its about doing right for the scene and other apps and this homebrew community.

You are the one that has stated it will be open.So for some reason you seen a need for it as well. I was just simply stating the benefits to why it should be open. and the one edge Iris has over multiMAN.

No drama everyone this is a civil discussion and I will make sure it stays that way. Deank deserves respect he has earned it in this scene. However he needs to see the light that open source is a must. I think i have said everything that needs to be said and lets leave it at that. deank your more then welcome to make a response. However anyone else please keep the subject on Iris. This is a drama free zone and we want to keep that and it will be enforced.
