  • Iris Manager v2.0 released by Estwald - Updated to PSL!GHT V2

    Ps3 Developer Estwald (Formerly known as Hermes) has updated the PSL1GHT created Backup Manager known as Iris Manager to version 2.0. This version has been ported entirely to PSL1GHT V2, There are many other fixes and additions you can view in the very rough google translation below.       Yea, google translates so rough and it make it hard to understand unless you know spanish. I read the english translation, literally translate it back to spanish, and then translate it back when I am trying to read it and it is still tough to just "read" the english so I have to go to the spanish page.

      This cracked me up today though:
      D_Skywalk is "low" paternity instead of he is on paternity leave.

      - Includes Norwegian as a language
      - Added UTF-8 to ANSI string conversion in languages (this is important because any code above 128, was converted incorrectly)

      - Copy, delete, and fix files are now working in appropriate form
      - FTP now truncates the file when it creates one.
      - Added in “Tools” one new option “With/Without BDVD Controller. This is one new option thinking in 3.41
      CFW Miralatijera: you can launch PSX games if you have this problem, but it requires one special BDVD mounting and patches in developing from Miralatijera to work. If you BDVD controller works, d’ont use this option

      I caught a bug report that should keep everyone alert. This seemed to happen with one of the most current versions of Showtime and the last version update from Iris (before this release).

      • The issue occurred after exiting Showtime and then going into Iris right after.
      • It then may give you a message that sycalls is an old version or something among the lines and then prompt you to reboot the PS3.
      • After you reboot, you may end up with a bigger problem on your lap.
      • The only way to repair this bigger issue is by reinstalling the CFW on the PS3, because Iris had corrupted some files from the firmware.


      I don't know if Iris dev was able to catch that report, but I won't update until I see that bug mentioned in the changelog as fixed or at least addressed.

      That's similar to the syscall issue I was having after running Iris first, the opening multiman and things not working/correctly.

      Once dean added the ps1_netemu compatibility to Multiman, I switched back and dumped Iris. It's a nice idea and a valiant effort, but they really should do more extensive bug testing before releasing broken/buggy versions - even if they're betas.

      @underball , one weird thing I've notice when going from Iris to multiMAN. The sparkles in multiMAN screensaver start to twinkle like a million times a second. I have to reboot the PS3 and not load Iris for that session, so that multiMAN will be back to normal.

      I think there is a payload problem between the two managers. But this new report above, seems to be between Showtime and Iris--but perhaps he used the standalone version of Showtime--the one that is associated with multiMAN, that when you exit Showtime, it takes you to multiMAN?

      And who knows what other issues can occur when firmware gets corrupted. Having to reinstall your CFW can be something very serious and not for the noob that is just getting started.

      So when I read some people say, don't use multiMAN, use Iris and blah blah blah. They show their ignorance, because Iris is not yet ready for prime-time. And there are no guarantees it will improve or not. So be careful!!!

      yep. you'll also notice that the spinning refresh arrows spin 100 times faster than normal in MM after using Iris, and moving around in XMMB mode is damn near impossible because it's too fast. It also Black screens on games the work fine otherwise.

      Yes, I did notice the fast spinning refresh arrows. I haven't explored the other two, thanks for the heads up!

      It almost acts like an emulator on a really fast computer when the "Throttle" feature is turned off.

      I always laugh when the hardcore Iris fanboys/supporters try to claim how much "better" Iris is than Multiman when people mention these kinds of bugs. Um, last time I checked, none of my apps or homebrew had any of these problems before Iris came along. How exactly does that make it "better"?

      I thank the Iris team for bringing PS1 Iso loading, but yeah, Iris is still an ugly looking mess with a ton of bugs. let's not get ahead of oursleves here.

      just don't forget though that hermes has done some amazing things, especially with his payload which has been used by MM for quite a long time.

      They are both good for the scene. choice always make each other better.

      The payload issue i could go into the reasons why but i would just be channeling info i got from other developers, so i don't want to mis-interpet some info. but from the past on other projects as well payloads mess up things when loaded.

      The issues are 2:

      1) Iris intercepts and changes the sys_timer_usleep syscall which is used by apps to control the flow and speed of GUI and other functions. Unless you go back to Iris to reset it - all other apps will fail in one way or another. The payload used for ps1 emulation does other things, too and that's why I decided to stay with the app-patching and worked on ps1_netemu for a week. Estwald mistakenly thought that ps1_netemu depends on some specific timings, that it reads more than one sector at a time and there is no space in ps1_netemu to place the patches. None of this is true. Emulating the syscalls is a great idea, but it still breaks other stuff.

      2) 4.21REX, 4.21Rogero, 4.30REX, 4.30ROGERO come with syscalls 8 and 9 already occupied by lv1_peek and lv1_poke. As you know sc8 is used by hermes payload and Iris ignores the fact that it is already used. It overwrites it and then it causes problems in other apps, too. multiMAN checks if syscall8 is used and uses syscall10 for hermes payload and all is ok.

      For the next mM update I plan to write my own payload (different from PL3 and Hermes) and I may keep the 3.55+ compatibility.
