Homebrew - Mandelbrot Fractal Zoomer for PS3 Released

Ouasse, has released a new homebrew app, which zooms mandelbrot fractals. All of the work is done via the PS3's SPU's via the Cell processor. The homebrew's generator is able to render more than 10 FPS per second, and at certain sections 60 FPS.

I made a fractal zoomer on the mandelbrot set for the jailbroken Playstation 3. All the computations are done using the SPU's of the Cell processor. The generator is able to render more than 10 frames per second, and for some parts of the Mandelbrot set the framerate can achieve 60 fps

It works as an installable package, to be installed from USB storage via the "Install Package" game menu option of jailbroken PS3's.

Use the analog sticks to scroll and zoom, then you can make a screenshot using the "square" button. Screenshot images are stored to USB storage. Use the "start" button to reset the original settings, and hit "cross" to exit. Enjoy !

uh, so it's just like a really high res picture that we can zoom in on?
Doesn't seem to generate anything lol.

Maybe you find out what a Fractal is and what Benoit Mandelbrot has done for the world of Math.

What exactly is a fractal? i tried reading up on it, but i cant seem to pin it down. Some sort of largely irregular shape that cant be explained in standard terms? =/

Wooohooo, I stand corrected. Should I write some homebrew that flashes up some really complicated formulae?? It would be about as much use as this glorified screensaver!

Fractal equations are the basis for all data compression.
So its pretty pictures here, mp3's there... rar's, zips... and on and on and on...

Wow, you know that saying "seperates the men from the boys". These comments seperate the noobs from the people with more than a dozen working synapses, lol. Great work using the SPU's for massive mathmatical calulations, this shows some of the pure computationial capabilities of the ps3.

For the morons saying its a glorified screensaver and waste of homebrew, jump off a bridge and remove yourself from the genepool; your the reason I'm scared of the movie "idiocracy", lol.

Wow, look at those computations go!! I am going to forget playing any games on my newly hacked games console and just marvel at the mathematic computations it can do. Is there a multi-player option for this so I can match my PS3's maths against my buddies????

If this is the standard of homebrew to come, I may just go and find that bridge!

It crashed on me a few times.
ALSO, it would be cool if this had an AUTO ZOOM function so we can just watch/trip out without having to use the controller
