Hermes CFW 3.41 Version 1.0 (BETA) Released

Hermes, famous for his payload work, has released his first custom firmware (CFW) today. Unlike the other CFW's available, Hermes decided to release a CFW based off of 3.41 firmware. The firmware basically allows you to jailbreak your console on 3.41 without the need for a dongle, useful for those not planning to update to 3.55. We must stress this is still a beta release and when flashing a custom firmware there is always a chance of bricking.

WARNING! This modified firware is tested only by two persons (it is experimental!!!) with this models:

CECHC04 (my model, 3 times with different changes, FAT 60GB)
CECHG04 (FAT)
CECHH04 (FAT 40GB)
CECHL04 (FAT 80 gb)
CECH2504B (slim)
CECH2404A (slim)
CECH2004A (slim)
CECH2004B (slim)

I cannot be sure if it can brick others models (don´t use this CFW if you have buy your console with 3.50+, you can brick it!)

I am not responsible if this CFW brick you console: I have taken all possible precautions using SHA1 hash to avoid errors building
the firmware, etc, and other problems (i include too my own patch utility to be sure you apply the patch correctly).

Building the firmware:

Put original PS3UPDAT.PUP (3.41 v2) with patch.bat and run patch.bat. It must create CFW341_PS3UPDAT.PUP.

Put CFW341_PS3UPDAT.PUP as PS3UPDAT.PUP in one pendrive (usb:/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP) and try toupdate normally from the device.

If it say "you have this version yet" try the restoration - recovery method (pressing POWER. Ask about this method if you don´t know in the forums)

Features:

- LV1 patch for undocumented v1_undocumented_function_114 (kudos for flukes1/graf_chokolo) 1 byte, don´t worry! XD

- LV2 peek/poke patch (original from psgroove)

- vsh.self patch to enable .self (same patch as psgroove-hermes_v4B. To launch self requires the payload working)

- nas_plugin.sprx patch to enable packages (same patch as psgroove-hermes_v4B. You can install PSL1GHT original packages but requires
geohot make_self_npdrm without one payload working)

- category_game.xml modified to enable packages (kudos for KaKaRoTo)

With this options PS3 works with Homebrew signed (use make_self_npdrm in the EBOOT.BIN).

Working:

Install payloadhv4.pkg and launch it to load the psgroove-hermes_v4B

NOTE: payload code is experimental. I need to work in the application and the payload to add news features.
don't worry about the source code now: this is a beta test version yet, but the source code will soon available.

mines CHECHK03 will it work on mine and if so will this stop me from using my dongle all together and will it work with all the backups my dongle works with.

also can i just as if hermes is planning on making a payload for dongles to work with 3.55 for those who want to carry on using them and dont or cant use custom firmware.

AGGRHHHHH!!!!!! and I just went to 3.55 less than 24hrs ago, I was waiting for something like this (3.41) Especially form Hermes, he is always solid.....oh well

I second that. What I've been hoping for is to continue to use a JB dongle (like PS3Break or E3) but be able to use 3.55 OFW. Now that would be cool, and certainly eliminate the risk of bricking with CFW.

Don't get me wrong, in a month or two once CFW has proven it's salt, I'd consider it... but going forward using a JB dongle sounds to me like a safer alternative for running backups on any firmware version.

Don't know if anyone is even thinking along the lines of updating these dongles... Was wondering this the other day. Bet the vendors of these devices would like to see the software to continue to evolve. Likely as would the owners...

yeah if they can make cfw for 3.55 with peek/poke surely they can make the dongles work now i would love that btw the other day i downloaded the psgroove source and tried to compile it and it doesnt seem to work anymore it says error with dump_lv2 pcap to bin or something any clues.

Simple question for those in the know-how.

Is there any reason to use a dongle instead of this other than the (rare) chance of bricking during install?

you'll probably be able to downgrade back to 3.41.

This is all very epic...yes. But what the heck is up with the barrage of CFWs that don't seem to be fully functional. Can't you fellas just discretely put your heads together and make a well tested CFW? Granted, I know this kind of thing isn't easy by any means; as I was watching in wonderment over IRC on that fateful day flukes was patching lv2. I'm just going to stay with the scary Whiningcawkballz for the time being...it seems to work so far. And lastly, don't brick yo shite kids. Read the posts, and learn from others mistakes.

what is it your after exactly the patch to get black ops running on 3.41, the full game or something else you will have to be more specific.

anyway back on topic i think i'll stick with my dongle for now because it runs flawlessly whatever i do and so far plays every backup i've tryed so unless this cfw offers up something extra or something special i'll stick with 3.41 with 3.55 spoof and hope hermes makes a payload for 3.55 for my minimus so instead of cfw i can use my dongle on 3.55 and and play homebrew and backups.

Hey this may be off a bit, but has anyone tried to update the Multiman with in the app (R3) I am running the latest one (I though...01.13.00 but it shows an error then an updated version 01.13.01)

I have a important question.

1.) Do I have to start everytime "payloadhv4.pkg" before I start the bm ?
2.) Can I use my old unsigned Homebrews like Open Manager 2.1l-2 ?
3.) Can I use my Jailbreak too, if I have problems with Games ?

I think at the moment this CFW is the best solution because nobody knows what coming up in the next months. I'm still on 3.41 with my PS3-break and Payload Hermes 4B I'm not a noob like the others who read: CFW 3.55 ohhhh I must update !...

But this CFW with H4B Payload is really interesting and I really think to update. If there are guys like me, who think before update (no noobs) you can answer me. I have a PS3 Slim (CHECH 2504B) like Hermes 4B hahah what a bad joke.

I am planning too.
1. Yes I believe at least one time after every boot.
2. This need a test.
3. I think lv1 is still same, dongle should work.

I faced problem with games with ps3 move on CFW. If we can revert to OFW 3.41 as we can with Rebug we can try this.

If I have to start every time the "payloadhv4.pkg" its the same shit like power+enject...
Because If I must start "payloadhv4.pkg" after every restart it requires a USB Stick with "payloadhv4.pkg"....

Jailbreak with Hermes 4B:
- Dongle must plugin in your PS3
- Power + Enject

Hermes 3.41 CFW:
- USB Stick with Hermes.pkg must plugin in your PS3
- After starting your console you must run Hermes.pkg

No. pkg will install one time only. Every boot you just need to load through XMB.
