Exciting News regarding PS2 Classic's, Now convert any PS2 ISO to a PS2 Classic. What was once thought to be an imposable feat in playing PS2 backups on a non Backwards Compatible PS3. Has now become a realistic task due to the advancements in the recent days, after PS3 developer flatz' released his research on the PS2 Classic Algorithm.

We just reported on PS3 Developer CaptainCPS-X's Guide to Unpack/Decrypt/Recrypt/Repack a PS2 Classic (see spoiler below). Since, CaptainCPS-X just recently revised his Guide to much more detailed and simple Tutorial in converting any PS2 ISO in to a PS2 Classic. Checkout the complete guide below

You need 4.XX CFW in order to run PS2 Classics
Use the latest version of any major 4.xx CFW

[Guide] Convert any PS2 ISO to PS2 Classic

Note: This guide will have technical details to a minimum, to avoid confusion. But, assumes that the user knows how to install PKG files on the PS3, and how to transfer files to the internal hard disk drive of the PS3 console.

In this guide you will learn how to convert PS2 games in ISO format to PS2 Classic, making any game playable on your PS3 console.

:: REQUIREMENTS [DOWNLOAD]

- PS2 Classic Placeholder PKG
- RAP file to activate the PS2 Classic Placeholder PKG
- reActPSN (used only once, to activate the PS2 Placeholder PKG)
- @aldostools 's ps3tools v2.2.2
- @aldostools 's ps2classic GUI v1.3
- Any PS2 game ISO

All of the requirements can be downloaded here (except the PS2 ISO xD LOL!)

:: INSTALLING AND ACTIVATING THE PS2 CLASSIC PLACEHOLDER

1- Copy the provided "exdata" directory to a external USB Storage Device (FAT32).
2- Install the provided "PS2 Classic Placeholder PKG" to your PS3.
3- You will now have a new icon on the XMB, but it is not activated, and of course doesn't have the PS2 game ISO yet.
4- Install the provided "reActPSN PKG" to your PS3.
5- Create a new user on your PS3 called "aa".
6- Log in to the new user account and run "reActPSN"
7- It will restart you PS3 and you can now log back in to your regular user account.

Note: After this step, the placeholder will be ready and you will not have to mess with reActPSN anymore. It still does not have any PS2 ISO that will be done later, keep reading.

:: INSTALLING THE TOOLS ON YOUR PC

1- Install @ aldostools 's ps3tools v2.2.2
2- Go to where you just installed ps3tools and run "PKG_ContentID.exe" (as Administrator to allow Registry write privileges) then close it (this will add the "Make PKG..." available on the windows context menu).
3- Install / extract @aldo stool's ps2classic GUI v1.3 to anywhere you like

:: CONVERTING ANY PS2 ISO TO PS2 CLASSIC

1- Run "ps2classic GUI v1.3" and switch to "Encrypt" tab.
2- Browse your PC for any PS2 game ISO and select it.
3- Copy and Paste this on the Content ID field: 2P0001-PS2U10000_00-0000111122223333
4- On the klicensee field Copy and Paste this: E4E54FD67C16C316F47829A30484D843
5- Click on "Add LIMG Sector" button and on the next pop-up click "Yes".
6- Click "Encrypt" and on the next pop-up click "Yes".
7- Wait for it to finish, a pop-up will come saying its completed.
8- You will now have a new file called "ISO.BIN.ENC" (this is the converted PS2 game to PS2 Classic)

:: TRANSFERRING THE CONVERTED PS2 GAME

There are various method you can transfer the new "ISO.BIN.ENC" to your PS3, where you installed the "PS2 Classics Placeholder PKG", I will mention them here to give you an idea:

Method 1:

Use the "PS2U10000" directory structure provided to make a game update package. You just have to put the "ISO.BIN.ENC" on the "USRDIR" and use "ps3tools" to make a package of the whole directory structure.

If the size of the PKG is more than 4GB then you will have to split it using any of the tools available for that (they must have extension of .66600, .66601, etc... to be installed via multiMAN).

Method 2:

Just copy the "ISO.BIN.ENC" to your external USB Storage Device and paste it on your PS3 at "/dev_hdd0/game/PS2U10000/USRDIR/"

If the "ISO.BIN.ENC" size is more than 4GB then you must use other method.

Method 3:

Upload the "ISO.BIN.ENC" via FTP / multiMAN to your PS3 at "/dev_hdd0/game/PS2U10000/USRDIR/"

NOTE: THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS GUIDE, AND WILL BE UPDATED CONSTANTLY, KEEP CHECKING BACK.

- The main goal of this guide is to explain how to decrypt and encrypt back a PS2 Classic PKG for use with the PS3.

- This guide will be updated from time to time, and some images / screenshots will be eventually included to illustrate some steps in a clearer way.

- A sub-guide will be included later to explain how to install PS2 Classics using reActPSN, it is very easy and just require the use of RAP files.

-Included are a collection of tools you will need before proceeding. This guide assumes that you, the user, knows how to extract a compressed file, edit a text based file and follow instructions.

-In this guide we will be using "Capcom Vs SNK 2 Millionaire Fighting 2001" as example.

-Modification of ISO or replacement with alternate ones has not been tested, as a result I decided not to add experimental procedures to this guide. As soon as I confirm a working method for this, I will add it.

NOTE: In the guide I mentioned the extraction of each tool to its own directory, but when I made the final RAR package I decided to include them all already extracted so, when following the guide just image you extracted them xD.

:: OBTAINING THE PS2 CLASSIC

Code:

1- Extract "PSNStuff_ver1.8.zip" somewhere you like.
2- Run "PSNStuff" and wait for it to update the database.
3- On the main screen, click on the filter drop-down menu and select "PS2".
4- Look for "Capcom Vs SNK 2 Millionaire Fighting 2001" and download both PKG / RAP.
5- Close PSNStuff, you should have 2 new files now:

* pkg/NPJD00015 Capcom Vs SNK 2 Millionaire Fighting 2001.pkg
* exdata/JP0102-NPJD00015_00-0000000000000000.rap

:: OBTAINING THE KLICENSEE FOR THE PS2CLASSIC [EASY WAY] [NEW!]

Code:

1- Install @aldostools 's ps3tools v2.2.2 (Download ps3tools.zip)
2- Go to PSNStuff "exdata" directory and right-click "JP0102-NPJD00015_00-0000000000000000.rap", then click on "Convert RAP to RIF KEY".
3- You will now have a 2 new files called "JP0102-NPJD00015_00-0000000000000000.key" (binary) and "JP0102-NPJD00015_00-0000000000000000.key.txt" (plain txt, not used in this guide)

Note: The obtained key is equivalent to the "NPJD00015.KEY.BIN" so I recommend to rename it to match the guide to avoid confusion.

:: OBTAINING THE KLICENSEE FOR THE PS2CLASSIC [OLD]

:: UNPACKING THE PS2 CLASSIC

Code:

NOTE: If you have ps3tools by @aldostools already setup and you have the shell integrated features then you can skip step 1 and 2.

1- Install ps3tools v2.2.1 (ps3tools_2.2.1.zip) (by @aldostools ).
2- Just to make sure, go to where you installed it and run "PkgView.exe" once, click on "Tools" menu and associate with PKG files, then close it.
3- Go to PSNStuff "pkg" directory and right-click "NPJD00015 Capcom Vs SNK 2 Millionaire Fighting 2001.pkg", on the pop-up menu click "Extract to current path...".
4- You will now have the extracted PS2 Classic game files.

:: DECRYPTING THE PS2 CLASSIC (COMMAND-LINE)

Code:

1- Extract "ps2classic_v1_capcpsx.zip" somewhere you like.
2- Go to the directory where you extracted the PS2 Classic game files and copy "ISO.BIN.ENC" to where you extracted "ps2classic_v1_capcpsx".
3- Go to the directory where you extracted the "rap2klicensee_capcpsx" and copy "NPJD00015.KEY.BIN" to where you extracted "ps2classic_v1_capcpsx".
4- Run the included script / batch file "DECRYPT.cmd" and wait for the finish message to appear, do not close it before. Depending on the size of the file it might take longer, just be patient.
5- You will now have 2 new files: "ISO.BIN" and "meta_out"

NOTE: Do not modify the decrypted ISO, when I confirm how to do this, I will include it in my guide, for now just continue.

:: ENCRYPTING THE PS2 CLASSIC (COMMAND-LINE)

Code:

1- While still at "ps2classic_v1_capcpsx" directory, run the included script / batch file "ENCRYPT.cmd" and wait for the finish message to appear, do not close it before. Depending on the size of the file it might take longer, just be patient.
2- You will now have a new file: "ISO.BIN_mod.ENC"

:: DECRYPTING THE PS2 CLASSIC (GUI by @aldostools )

:: PACKAGING THE PS2 CLASSIC

Code:

1- While still at "ps2classic_v1_capcpsx" directory, copy or move "ISO.BIN_mod.ENC" to where the original was extracted / located (refer to "UNPACKING THE PS2 CLASSIC" up)
2- Make a backup if needed of the original "ISO.BIN.ENC" then delete it from this location.
3- Rename the new "ISO.BIN_mod.ENC" to "ISO.BIN.ENC"
4- Navigate 2 directories up to where "ISO.BIN.ENC" was located.
5- Right click the directory and select "Make PKG..." (You must have ps3tools (by @aldostools ) installed, refer to "UNPACKING THE PS2 CLASSIC" up).
6- You will now have a file called: "PP0001-SLPM65047_00-0000111122223333.pkg" (rename as you like).

:: INSTALLING AND ACTIVATING THE PS2 CLASSIC PKG

Code:

1- Install "reActPSN_v2.23_CFW_340_4XX.pkg" on your PS3.
2- Install the PS2 Classic "PP0001-SLPM65047_00-0000111122223333.pkg" on your PS3.
3- Create a user account called "aa" on your PS3.
4- Create a directory called "exdata" on a external USB Storage Device (FAT32)
5- Copy the "JP0102-NPJD00015_00-0000000000000000.rap" from the PSN Stuff directory (refer to "OBTAINING THE PS2 CLASSIC" up) to the new "exdata" directory created on the external USB Storage Device (FAT32).
6- Connect the USB Storage Device (FAT32) to your PS3.
7- Switch to user "aa" on your PS3
8- Run "reActPSN" and wait until the PS3 restarts, you can now enter your regular account and access the PS2 Classic.

PS: I am currently preparing more content for the guide to make it even more complete so please be patient if what you are looking for is not here.

dumb question. i wanted to play kingdom hearts and kingdom 2, but was and never be released for ps3 on (there is one releasing sometime this year, but said that a few years ago too)
so if i can not find a rap, cant i still use reActpsn and create a rap by holding O ? or am i out of luck,

Who remembers how to add a codebreaker/game shark disc to your ISO files? I know you can do it by adding the elf and pointing it to the SLUS file for the game. I remember an app that would do it for you but I'm drawing a blank......anybody can refresh my memory?

It is recommended to go back to 3.55 with a downgrader PUP -> enable QA flag -> Update to 4.3xx CFW. You will be saved for future and need not have to worry about anything. 4.3x are now very stable and have plenty of features.

Just for info. im on rogero 4.30 cfw 2.03.

So a little update on my situation.
i was ready to try the rebug update, even a "universal act.dat" one too. when i noticed rebug posted an update for 4.30 NON rebug cfw's to spoof 4.40.
i downloaded it, installed it, and by golly gee gosh it worked. signed up for and into PSN, downloaded a game, activated it, and am now transferring my ps2 game back to the hdd as I started fresh with the react psn/ps2 placeholder process...
I will report back shortly to tell you if it worked.

I repeat, I am still on Rogero 2.05, trying the "having been on psn" method.

EDIT: So I can 100% confirm that this works. just played the intro to DQ8 saved first chance i got, worked. make sure your ps2 mem card is set up before hand. SOOO for those on Rogero 2.05, use the rebug 4.40 spoofer asap. log into PSN, download "back to the future episode 1" (not the trial, the game is free). It will activate. install. Exit PSN, THEN follow the steps for ps2 classics from scratch. Copy game, test.

Thanks to everyone for all their advice and comments.

Just for info. im on rogero 4.30 cfw 2.03.

go over to tortuga cove and get 4.30 2.05.. installs directly from XMB, MUCH more stable, then as i said above, grab the rebug spoofer for NON rebug firmwares, install, activate, set up psn. Download game, let it install and activate, get out of psn, log off. THEN follow the normal PS2C steps above. install your backup using MM method (straight copy/paste) and voila! =) no need for rebug cfw updating (or other stresses).

I was trying to get this to work but always ended with the "copy protection"-problem because I used the left USB port.
I think the developer should also note this in his tutorial to prevent that users run into this problem.

that has been a gimme me since the usb dongles where in play, you should always use the right usb port.
installing kingdom hearts 2 as we speak, very good tut, Mc afree keeps deleting my pkg info app says its a trojan or some stuff( i hate it and came with pc)

After everything works fine (ps2classics), can i delete that game (back to the future) again, or does it have to stay on your PSN account (HDD)?

done installing, when i launch classic place holder i get a black screen and no signal comes on my screen. no buttons work, checked the sfo and no display options are enabled 720 1080 ect ect. i have unplugged and re plugged hdmi cable.
then checked Mman and directory structure is correct. /dev_hdd0/game/PS2U10000/USRDIR/ contents inside usrdir are savedata iso.bin.edat and iso.bin.enc

any one got a idea?

i was using a older reactpsn, so i went to update it and error occured so i went to delete older react and error occured rebooted and have to rebuild database, i wenr ahead and edited the param.sfo and included a/v setting,such as aspect ratios, dont know if it will work as my database is being rebuilt right now, will get back to yous on that, and the link, sorry but i have way to much data going on to delete it all.

i am also on a older rogero release 2.03 i think wonder if that would help?

Try to delete all PS2 classics and ReactPSN (with React account) then install ReactPSN, create account and install any officiall PS2Classic game and activate it using React. If it will be working - try to run custom PS2Classic game - if it won't be working - you're doing something wrong when you're try to convert game.

deleted react acct,
wont let me install the react psn that was included in rar.

then i look at file sizes and it didnt transfer completely, so i just ditched my dlc , lame (o well) installed.
now transferrring thru MM without making package, i edited param.sfo to include video aspects, so maybe that will work, plust im going to update to rogero v5, been a bit but maybe that helps.

just curious, when i want to use more than one baclup of ps2 game how would i go about doing that, from what i see there is only one game id and one k license.

Hi guys, need help with multiple PS2Classics. What I did is this:

1) When I encrypt a new game I change the ContentID from PS2U10000 to PS2U10001;
2) Edit PARAM.SFO so that the GameID is PS2U10001;
3) Made a pkg and installed, so my XMB show both the PS2Classics and my other game.

The problem is that the original PS2Classics (PS2U10000) runs fine, even when I rename the files, but the PS2U10001 that I created is installed but when I try to run asks to go online and activate.

The question is. Does the klicense that I used is only for the PS2U10000 or did I do something wrong? Why the game on PS2U10000/USRDIR works and the other on the PS2U10001 doesn´t? Did anyone acctually got to work the multiple games?
