Despite his legal matters, graf_chokolo is planning a significant development in the weeks to come for the PS3. He is currently working on a custom firmware for 3.55 that would allow users to dual boot between Linux, FreeBSD or etc and GameOS. He also mentions the custom firmware will feature patches to the hypervisor to allow more features. We can only imagine what sort of features he has planned for us, but the coming weeks should be very exciting for PS3 owners.

I plan to implement dual boot feature in HV, just like i did on my PS3 3.41, and you can boot with it either gameos or linux or some other system like freebsd. You won’t need any bootos on gameos for that. I will also patch HV and enable more features

I will do it on PS3 slim, first i will resize HDD and add a partition for Linux there

Expect more features coming in as the HV patching continues. Oh, and he is working on a 3.55 FW only at the moment, although on the newer firmware versions is possible according to graf.

now for 3.55, on other version offsets are different so the code is the same but offsets to patch are different

When ask about the progress of his lawsuit and if he requires more legal funds, graf_chokolo had to say this:

it’s very slow, for now it’s enough i think, thanks

i have no huge news yet regarding lawsuit but soon i think i will have

so, if another hacker modifies this FW could it be possible to run 2 versions of custom firmware?

Finally, something useful comes out from him. Lets see what kinda advantage this "Hypervisor" thing actually gives. If it leads to more homebrew, emulators then Hooray but if its just another useless "backdoor into the PSN" then not...

Oh and lets hope his cfw has all the compatibility with the current available homebrew.

If geohot had only 1 ounce of courage like graf_chokolo has I think I could maybe like geohot. But he is more looking for fame and for the rest he's just pooping his pants.

this probably won't lead to PSN access for cheaters or butt-pirates
just easyer developement on the PS3 so more homebrew and emulators as well as USABLE linux platforms on the PS3 (think ubuntu)

graf_chokolo release something that can mount games in iso format so that we can play games without using the blu ray driver and original blu ray discs(good for ps3 users that have broken blu ray drivers like me)! if you do that you will be my hero!

Well, I guess we'll see what this can do once it's released. Not exactly sure what it would accomplish, since I myself don't use Linux. Its just nice to see that there is still somebody out there trying to make things happen.

And Turkish, we get it, you want more homebrew and emulators. Stop regurgitating the same requests in everything you post. Seriously, can you talk about something else? Wait, nevermind. Last thing I want to see is more anti-piracy, hacker-bashing, Sony butt-kissing neander-posting. (Seriously, with how much you have previously bashed piracy, you sure do like your emulators. I seriously doubt you actually own all the games you plan on playing with said systems.) So, can you just...I dunno...stop? Period?

What have you ever contributed to the advancement of the PS3 homebrew scene? I hope something for all of the *****ing you do about what the developers are releasing. Please post a link to your releases thanks, can't wait to check them out, thanks again.

This seems plausible...but why run 2 CFWs when you could run a CWF and an OFW? That would end our PSN predicament in ways.
