Geohot Responds to Sony's Legal Motion

Yesterday, we reported on leaked court documents, filed by Sony's lawyers against Geohot (George Hotz) and fail0verflow. Today, further legal docs, regarding the case, have surfaced on the net. This time around, we get to see Geohot's legal response to Sony's recent accusations. These documents, which were filed by Mr. Hotz's attorney today, give us a first look on his defense.

Geohot's attorney describes many flaws in Sony's original legal motion, and goes on to detail them. He pokes holes in everything from Geohot's alleged relationship with team fail0verflow, all the way to Sony's assertion that California holds jurisdiction over the case. Based on these recent docs, it seems like Sony will have a formidable foe in Geohot and his lawyer.

Also surfacing today, was a large collection of previously unreleased documents, recently filed by Sony's lawyers. In these docs, Sony cites such websites as PSX-Scene, PS3News, Slashdot, Twitter, and more, as evidence against Geohot. Many of you may remember this tactic from the original jailbreak cases back in September.

Sony failed in attempts to get a restraining order on Geohot, to quote @ Geohots Blog: “ As of 2:00 PM EST, 1/14/2011, I am not subject to any TROs“

The (il)legal actions by Sony are just a delay tactic. To slow progress right down, even if it slows the progress of having OtherOS and Homebrew running on a PS3 by 6 months to a year they will have considered it money well spent. Fear and intimidation.

There are coders who will wait for this to blow over before considering trying to create bafflingly amazingly complex projects for the PS3.

Look at the facts people were jailbreaking the systems B4 the keys were out, B4 the fail0verfl0w meeting in Germany. and for months you could google a PS3 title and place megaupload or fileserve behind it and BAM links to DL it straight to you PC....Give it up $ony

did anyone even remember with the master key it can be signed so sony cannot detect fake from real?....sigh.

The current problem is that supposedly without even connecting to the psn store that your system still uploads a file to sony. Thus showing if you are using loader programs, etc. Signing doesnt mean it wont show programs that do not exist normally or should not be present anymore on your system.

They can hardly slow progress at this point the scare tactic might work on people developing backup manager but certainly not for legit homebrew or even cfw it's to late for that if anything i think they're trying to set an example for future systems.

They may well be able to tell real from fake. Just because something has been signed does not mean that it was authorized by Sony, or has not been patched.

If everytime something was signed in the secure room at Sony HQ checksums were kept as part of the Audit trail, then Sony could issue a white/green list. Only allow programs with good hashes to execute. For authorization to the PSN, this could be made part of the authentication requirements for Access.

But a workaround like the above can be bypassed since the chain of trust has it's first link broken, which can't be fixed. Security on the PS3 is like trying to hide fish in a clear glass tank, they may be obsecured for a while, but eventually all will be revealed.

OMFG Geohot said he doesn't have a psn account !!!!! I was thinking yesterday he deff has psn so it might be a little more difficult to explain towards you accepting the agreement on psn !! This just made Geohot a lot more harder to bring down for Sony HAHAHA... AS ALWAYS **** YOU SONY, GEOHOT BRING THE COMMUNITY BACK THE TROPHY CUZ UR THE MAN ;-)

WOw yes yes yes that's right he also did lock his twitter account or disabled or so during summer because everyone was asking for blackra1n to come out or when the next hack for iPhone would come out and was pissed off that people kept asking him about ps3 other os back and what not and went under for a while heh love how all this is working to his victory !! And yea its true he never made a paypal account for donations maybe for iPhone but not for ps3 (Sony is full of shit on that comment because they probably are thinking of his iPhone hacks lool... Sony Sony Sony.. Poor Sony)
