The global economy being what it is I'm kind of surprised that folks donated that amount to GEO in the first place. To have him turn around and donate it back to "the cause" is a pretty good gesture, though with all that's going on in Japan I think the money could have been put to "better" use.

You'd be surprised how quickly small donations add up. And I'm inclined (hopeful?) to think that people donate more willingly when they don't feel like they're paying for a service. Geohot has delivered the goods time and time again (whether or not people like him) so helping the guy out with a few dollars wasn't a big deal.

Anyhow, I'm glad this saga is over and Geohot didn't get severely punished for this.

I believe the transaction fee is about 3% of the total which would be about $300. Charities are discounted to 1.5%. Either way, it's not much.

im thinking nothing he chickened out im sure that he would of used some of that money for his own personal spend up ill be sure never to get Geoscamed

the ps3 scene is looking like its F**KED anyway there is still no 3.60 custom firmware and games coming out like portal 2 with 3.60 keys so what can you do nothing most likely

I am sure there will be a way around the keys. There is no 3.60 cfw because as many have said there is no reason for it. There was nothing valuable added in the 3.60 firmware update. If it added something like cross game voice chat or custom soundtracks to all games then you would have had everyone working on it. Perhaps now with games coming out where it is 100% needed we will definitely see a hack for it. As for Sony stores closing and not being a big deal......sure they do not get news publicity for it now BUT sony closing stores = loss of revenue....that is a big deal for those stores. As well as employees not getting payed for the day.

With his many interviews he really thought he was going to WIN. I am soooooo disappointed with him. I really thought he was going to stand up for all of us instead he folded. I really think their is more to this story, their just has to be. Maybe he took a job with sony and just writing some stuff on his blog to hide this fact. In his one interview he was sooo sure that he would win. Why not fight for all of us Geohot? I know I'm not in his shoes but does he realize what he would have meant to all of us if he would have won, which I really think he would have. I just think this is the absolute worst news we could hear. Our only last resort is Graf, but he's in a different country so now no one is fighting sony in the US. I think him settling is just as bad as losing. Now this will continue to happen every time something like this happens sony will just sue. If Geohot would have fought we really could have had an answer. But in the end, if you don't stand for something, you end up standing for nothing. I think that 50 years from now when he looks back he will think, Geez why didn't I fight for what I think is right, I could have changed the whole Scene, If only I could go back & do it again. I dont know about all you but I just think we all lost now, and I unfortunately be putting my modded ps3 on craigslist & just stick to my xbox & wii. Its just too bad!

As for those suggesting he stole all the work or hung on to some cash, I think they're being incredibly ignorant, heh, geohot was the first person to obtain hypervisor access (albeit with custom hardware) and the EFF are certainly the organisation to deal with these freedom issues although I'm still surprised they didn't provide him/graf_chokolo with proper support, they do have lawyers after all....

geohots firmware does not allow lv2 meaning no backup managers, the only way it works is by adding something else to it.

its strictly for homebrew.

Quite right, sir! (Un)Luckily geohot's lawyer were a stupid bunch - they probably opted to get payed only in the case they WIN the court. So ha-ha, in-your-face, geohot lawyers. Not a single cent for you! He surely took it all for him self. After all, a receipt can be faked, so it likely is faked. Right?

What do you mean? Sony had no case - so they settled outside of court. (Sony was the plaintiff - why would they *not* want to go to court?) Sony has the financial means to drag out this court case for years. Geohot does not. Would you not take the offer of "hey let's forget this, just don't hack on the ps3, ktnx. Here's a few bob for you to get your self some new toys"?
