PSX-SCENE Forum Discussion for Sony PlayStation/PsOne/PS2/PS3/PSP/PS VITA
  • GameDATA Tool (Rev2) By andbey0nd

A while ago we posted here That PSX-Scene member Jay-Jay had developed a tool based on the original GameDATA tool that was released and had won the runner-up prize in the November PSX-Scene monthly contest. Now a new release has been made by developer andbey0nd bringing the original GameDATA tool to Rev2(Revision 2). This revision now adds support for any CFW out there(Cobra/TB/Kmeaw/Rebug/MFW 3.41 and 3.55). Further changes can be seen below in the provided changelog.

    ChangeLog:

    Spoiler

Those of you who are using the previous revision please switch to revision 2.

I'm having trouble getting this to work. I have a 1tb external drive plugged into the far right usb port. I run the tool and from what I understand the icon is supposed to change to say "Game Data Mode: (USB)" but it never changes from HDD. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and any help would be appreciated. I'm on Rebug 3.55.2.6 if that makes any difference

Dude, if you read the instructions on the original Jay-Jay release, the gameData.pkg/gameData2.pkg, when installed, is only used to exit external gameData mode. In order to change to External HDD mode, you run multiMAN and start one of the EXT GAME DATA LOADER titles you added in the GAMES directory on one of the hard drives you're using.

You then install the gameData.pkg after running each of those titles, so the pkg is installed on each external hard drive. This will let you exit from each hard drive into Internal HDD mode. That is the only purpose of the .pkg.

Installing the gameData.pkg while in internal HDD mode isn't necessary, if you notice, but it does look better with the icon. lol.

      Cheers.

hmm, according to this new update, when we install the new pkg update. It should install the feature to all our external HDDs connected. Of course if we just run it from the internal HDD (once it's installed) it will only fetch one external HDD that it classifies as the "one" external HDD and ignores the other external HDDs we may have (that's until we do my trick with multiMAN). Check your external HDD in the GAMEI folder should be a folder named: GDSW00001 see what icon it represents there? My external HDDs show the USB dongle icon in there. And if I go to /dev_hdd0/game/GDSW00001/ I see the internal HDD icon.

I've seen this happen sometimes when the icon doesn't truly represent what mode we are in (internal or external)--perhaps this reason is because I don't necessarily run this tool in internal HDD mode, instead I use the multiMAN version for it and then I just use this tool to exit that external HDD mode. But nevertheless, if you see the icon and you still run it, it should swap the mode from internal to external or visa-versa--and if for some strange reason it doesn't do this on the first attempt, try again, until you see the rest of your game icons in normal mode (not ghost images). And if you don't see it, perhaps you didn't install the pkg when this external HDD was connected (referring to this new pkg install) -- if you used the old pkg install, then you should install it on this external HDD following my method of course.

Basically the way I understand this (just my own hunch) on how this works is that the exit mode (small EBOOT.BIN) simply reboots our PS3 (this is why we see our screen show the first PS3 splash screen, then whatever background image we have set up afterward). This still beats from having to do this manually ourselves. troop116rules, is correct, in my method, I only use this app to exit from external HDD mode. I never use it to boot up in Internal HDD mode--unless I know that the games that are installed on external HDD #1 will launch afterward--boy I don't want to confuse you there! lol

And this also brings me to another inquiry of mine. I don't know if this new update actually adds the bonus functionality I was able to exploit (where now we can choose which external HDD we want to install or play our PSN games or homebrew without having to disconnect hdds in the process.) and having to use multiMAN or not?

I haven't installed this update, since I don't use TB. I am hoping to test this once I get a TB dongle. So to my understanding this new pkg will install the exit function to all of your external HDDs installed when we run the installation of this package or when we run the app--but if you use my exploit method (EXT GAME DATA LOADER by Jay-Jay), we will still have to run those dummy games from multiMAN and then just use this tool to just exit--that's all I ever used it for. (but I still wonder if my method will work with TB??)

So do check your external HDD GAMEI folder to see if the GDSW00001 folder exits--if not, simply install the pkg or copy the folder from another external HDD that may have it (just don't copy the one from the internal HDD, since that eboot.bin file is a lot larger, so it's completely different from the version that should install itself on the external HDD, plus it has an extra file named: BDEMU.BIN, which I think is the actual file that got updated to work with TB and other CFWs in this update version???). If you want me to upload the folder that goes inside the external HDD to you in a zip file, I will be gladly to do it, just PM me or reply below.

Once I get my TB, I will then report whether the actual Data Loader that is from multiMAN (which I base my method on) actually works still with TB. If not, I promise I will contact deank about that, and beg him for an update for multiMAN on that!

      Sorry for the double post....

      UPDATE:

I just wanted to follow through and update about the functionality with TB and my tweak EXT GAME DATA LOADER by Jay-Jay. Apparently it does not work anymore with TB. The game option feature (EXT GAME DATA) in multiMAN seems to be grayed out. Plus when I tried to launch my dummy game it just takes me to normal (Internal HDD mode).

I just sent a message to deank (creator of multiMAN). Hopefully he can figure out a way to enable this feature in multiMAN. Meanwhile, the gameDATA Tool (Rev 2) works well with TB. So right now, we must connect and disconnect external HDDs in order to load the external HDD we have that has our games and homebrew to be able to use this feature.
