  • gameDATA Tool - Install PKGs on HDD and USB HDD

Developer andbey0nd has released a new tool, called gameDATA, that allows you to select the location in which you install your PKG (package) files. You can now choose between the internal HDD, or the first external USB HDD.

Packages installed the the external USB HDD must be played in Game Data Mode: [USB], and internal HDD packages played in Game Data Mode: [HDD]; which can be switched back to simply by launching Game Data Mode: [USB], or by using "Ext. Game Data" option in multiMAN.

More information below, taken from the exclusive release at Tortuga-Cove. It should also be important to note, this application should work with 3.41 and 3.55 jailbroken PS3 consoles.

    gameDATA app for PS3:
    • Allows the user to switch location of [game data] between internal HDD and first external USB HDD
    • Allows to install PSN games (or any application/pkg) to external USB HDD
    • Allows to get back to normal mode when you use "Ext. Game Data" option in multiMAN
    • Allows saving space on internal HDD
How to use after you install gameDATA.pkg:
Make sure that no payloads are loaded (do a clean PS3 restart).
    1. If you wish to install stuff to external USB - launch the app from "Game Data Mode: [HDD]"
    2. You're now in USB MODE (the icon will change to USB device with "Game Data Mode: [USB]" title
    3. Install PSN games or launch games - their data will go to the external USB HDD/stick
    4. Play your PSN (or disc) games from external USB device
    5. Once you're done with the game, either reboot your PS3 or launch the "Game Data Mode: [USB]" to get back to normal mode

    Enjoy!

tthousand if you want a much more better picture, that doesn't have the tortuga logo on it Attachment 31337 That should do it. And you beat me to it. Though are posts were almost identical which was scary. Great minds think alike I guess.

I have to agree with amp on this one. If you can get a different picture, besides editing the one they supplied, I would consider it. But this was an exclusive release (and I could not get the pkg extraced to use whatever pics are located within). It is funny TitanTX, the whole time I was writing that article I kept thinking someone else was about to post it right before I finish it. I have been beaten to the punch before though too, usally when I am editing a picture like you no doubt were.

So this would allow me to free up my PS3 HDD and run all those PSN games Duplex is releasing from the external? If I'm understanding this right, this is an answer to an issue I was worried about. Clarification, please?

With this tool, you could choose to install the PSN titles to either your internal HDD, or your external USB HDD, and play from both (one at a time though ). Also, any other installable package can now be installed to the external USB HDD, allowing people to free up a lot more space on their internal HDDs.

So if I install a PSN title to my external, look at how its set up on my external, and transfer all my currently installed PSN titles from internal to external using the same structure, would they be detectable? I really don't want to hunt down all those PKGs again. I'm on a limited bandwidth, and that just wouldn't work out. >.< I'll try this a bit later anyway, but an answer here before I attempt it would be nice. (My time is full of caring for a sick wife and two kids right now, so gaming is on the back burner until late tonight. >.<)

I am also curious about what MarcusRaven inquired about. Could I move the game data to an external HDD without having to install the PKG? And also another inquiry: I have up to three external HDDs connected to my PS3. Will this application be able to work with all three external HDDs connected? How will it know which has the PSN pkgs installed?

BTW, the above link to download the file took me to two or three pages until I was able to get the download link. You guys should replace it with this one: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

it would be nice if someone can tell me if i can modify a file on the ps3 to achieve the same result because ive been waiting for this since we first started installing pkgs ive tryed to do something like this myself by altering files with no success

For the questions on whether or not this can be used if you move all of your files, instead of having to install all the packages over again... would be nice to know. All I can say is that it sounds like it might work, and I hope it does.

RazorX, yes that would be nice to know., if we could some how adapt it to MFW, or something similar.

Your best bets would be to contact andbey0nd via Tortuga-Cove on both of these issues.

PS: Jay-Jay, this is only for the first USB as of it's current release state.

You can just move the files. Some games have a LOT of tiny files though, which add onto your transfer time. (Hard Corps: Uprising did this to me so bad that MultiMAN stopped transferring because the wait time estimated up to 200+ hours. >.

Yea this will give me use of an old 40GB fat that i was given with a bad bd-rom drive. Multiman locks up when i try to run it, i'm guessing due to the bad bd-rom. Glad to see this, so i can avoid buying a 2.5" drive.
