Game Genie Returns - PS3 Compatible

News comes to me regarding the legendary cheat accessory Game Genie. There will be various versions of The Game Genie which include PS3 and PSP Game Cheats, Game Genie Save Guru, downloadable Game Genie for Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS also a universal save and cheat device. Hyperkin will unveil the above at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 10-13, 2012.

To Quote:

The most famous cheating device in video game history will make its triumphant return to the masses at this year's Consumer Electronics Show.

Hyperkin announced it will resurrect the long lost "Game Genie" as part of its lineup of video game accessories at the annual Las Vegas confab.

...will work on the Playstation 3 and Playstation Portable. A downloadable version will also be available for the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS.

What exactly is the point of this? All of these systems already have ways to run cheat codes, for free.

the point is, they will make a profit from all the people who dont know what you know.

It's possible that they will have a wider variety of cheats for different games, but if this is coming out in disc format, you can bet it will require 4.0+ to run so it will probably be useless to most of us.

My prediction: game save "cheats" for PSP, PS3 and Wii. Probably some lame encryption scheme on the save files for DRM purposes. I see on Hyperkin's site that they have an actual cartridge for DS.

It's gonna be crap!

I don't see how they could possibly have it require any fw version. Though it's still useless for us, since anyone on cfw would not need to pay for cheats.

that is what i think it is, "cheats" these days don't mean the same compared to 20 years ago, i will step back and wait for it to be released first and then see if my prediction is right, i don't think this game genie would last that long with sony though.

the cheats and modding scene for the ps3 is beyond a joke, so having something released like this with some genuine cheat codes for a range of games would be more than welcome, i would pay for it if it meant more games working with cheat codes and i am not even from the us, i am from eu, i just hope this is not just a save unlocker like xploder.

What if its like the old DATEL Memory Plus system for PS2, it was never authed by Sony, but they had their own method of running it on a unmodded PS2... that helped the scene into making the swap disc work much easier ... this might be good for the scene you never know..

What we really need is something like CWCheat for the psp that has a memory search function. If you don't like the other cheats people have released, then you just make your own

Can't wait to see how the DS version works out (being downloadable), would love to cheat on some of my retail games.

Unless they've found something major (unlikely), it'd require a flash card, which would make it 100% useless.

PS2 was a different animal all together. PS3 has levels of encryption on executables which PS2 discs didn't have. Once Datel worked out how to press bootable discs they could put whatever they wanted on them. With the PS3 you can't do shit unless you have the appropriate keys AND you would have to be able to find an exploit to get into the lv1 in order to keep the cheat codes active during gameplay. If such an exploit was found and made into a product, Sony would patch it ASAP and render the product useless with an updated firmware.

I miss the PS1 hacking days... Memory dumping and debugging games was pretty badass! Made some pretty sweet codes in my day..

Huh. I've never heard of this Hyperkin company. Did the rights to the Game Genie name expire or was it just never trademarked to begin with?

If it's anything like CodeBreaker/GameShark was for the PS2, then it's going to be sweet.

If it's just some lame eboot replacements or modded save files like what we already have then im not interested.

The available cheat options we currently have on the PS3 suck. What happened to creating your own HEX codes.

Anyone remember the days of SOCOM 1-2, CodeBreaker, IDOT and codemajic? Those were the fun cheating days. We don't have anything in comparison to that on the PS3.

Back in 2001/2002 I knew a guy that had acquired the rights to the GG name. Not sure if he's behind Hyperkin or if he in turn sold the rights to another party.
