  • Firmware Update 1.51 for PS Vita Mandatory

Another system software update hits the PS Vita. Reading various sources suggested that this update would block the recent PS Vita exploits by PlayStation Vita developers Teck4 and Wololo. However a recent update via Wololo's blog denies this rumor. See PS Vita: Picodrive Emulator Running article for the full story.

I really want to get me one of these when it's released in the U.S., but I can see it's already going to be pain in the ass device that you have to upgrade every time you turn the ****ing thing on. No thanks $ony.

itt: frequent updates within the first few days of it being released means it'll be updated every day for the rest of forever.

No ****ing shit they are updating it frequently right now. That's how software always is. The initial release is always full of bugs and/or missing features that require frequent updates, but once they are worked out, updates always slow way down.

Also you should note that this is not a specific fault of Sony. Every game/software/gadget goes through several updates because they set a release date and in the final push to meet that date, bugs are overlooked and features aren't quite ready. Would anybody really rather that they didn't support their products. Instead of people bashing Sony, let's take a look at Acclaim, Electronic Arts, SquareSoft, Nintendo, Microsoft, Sega, Midway, Rockstar, Apple, etc, etc, etc. They all do the same thing and nobody complains about them. Next time anybody wants to bitch about Sony updating their firmware, load up your game list and see how many games needed updates to fix bugs. People who absolutely have to have the first pressing of a disc or the first model of a game console/gadget are unofficial beta testers. It's the nature of the business

Product support is nice. It is the MANDATORY part that needs to go. NO UPDATE should be mandatory. It kinda scares people into the "PS3 - update or lose new games" mentality. I won't be buying the Vita, or any $ony product, ever. Hell, I won't even buy blank DVD-R's if they have $ony's name on them.

See, I never bought a PS3, so $ony doesn't own me, and I am very glad I hesitated because I have now had a chance to see what others have gone through with $ony, and I can only smile. I built myself a PC for playing "the latest and greatest" games, so I genuinely have NO use for $ony and I am doing great without them. I feel like an alcoholic celebrating 1 year sober. You can do it too. Just dig a hole in the back yard, toss your PS3 in it, and liberate yourself from them.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

That's the beauty of it - You don't have to buy it. From what I understand, you have to download the games from PSN. That should tell you right there that you have to update if you want to buy new games for it. This is no secret. They didn't hide anything. They marketed it this way. I won't buy one but for other reasons and that is my choice as well

I am surprised as well and especially since Vita games being on cartridges instead of minidisc/UMD kinda discs is ALL over the internet.

@xboxmods2977, I have a PS3 but Sony don't own me, so what are you going on about? I have hacked my PS3 and I do what I want with it. You don't have to refuse to own any of their products to be owned by them, you just have to not be a idiot.

We are all skipping the import info. The PS Vita will not let you use the content manager if you aren't connected to the web and up to date. Deny me access to your store and newer games if I'm not up to date but you can't deny someone the ability to simply transfer files for not having a constant internet connection.

I will only be buying the PS Vita *when* it has TV output. Sometimes I want to play mobile, sometimes at home I want to play on a big screen. Even if the the signal is a simple 576p (to match somewhat the screen res) I don´t mind, at least I can play as a normal console.

I have a PS3 and I am sick of seeing that games have stability updates and I am sick of seeing newer FW updates... It should be forbidden to release updates sooner than 4 month after a game release to prevent unfinished games + it should be forbidden to release FW updates more than 2x / year to prevent those kinds of things. People spend more time updating the console + games than playing...

Sure, let's just leave those bugs in, who cares if they make your game unplayable, or your console crash?

Updates are not just done to piss you off. There is a real and important reason for them.

Yeah, we could always go back to the days of ROM cartridges. If there are bugs in those, then you're just screwed out of your money. Also updates often have added features. A good example of that is PAIN. You get a ton of extra content for installing the updates but nobody seems to notice the good that comes out of product support. Instead some people just want to bitch and f***ing moan about what amounts to nothing
