  • FileSonic Downloads Canceled - New Hosting Service Announced!

Today, PSX-Scene member BahumatLord informed us that another file hosting service has been somewhat shutdown. FileSonic is still up and active, but there is a catch... NO MORE DOWNLOADS! You can only upload and store your own files. Meaning you can only download your own files.

Earlier today, a new site similar to MegaUpload came to my attention, Anonyupload. While not open yet, they are claiming to be out of reach from the long arms of the law. Thanks go to @Neur0Nerd & @Z31KKU.

Remember, we also offer a service similar to hosting, that allows for Downloads/Uploads

Just for the record, this means that the FBI don't have to right to shut down the site?

Maybe Skydrive or Dropbox? Or it's time to set private servers.

Yes, I'm aware of everything you're saying. I'm not battling to be right, but just pointing out, again, that Usenet isn't impenetrable. Things absolutely do get deleted.
I get what you're saying too. I'm not battling to be right either. Neither one of us are entirely wrong or right. At the end of the day tho, we need to figure out a solution to the file hosting dilemma and I would trust Usenet over file hosts/torrents right now. Torrents by nature track where info is coming from/ going to. At least usenet there are steps you can take to hide where stuff is being uploaded from to protect yourself. As for protecting the data, it's a simple matter of changing the file names so that anyone with a usenet search engine wouldn't be able to easily find the stuff, but the people you want to find it would be able to

Idk why you guys are complaining anyway tbh who in their right mind download over 20gb if anything was over 10gb I wouldn't even bother messing with it. You had to actually buy a membership just to do parallel downloading anyway

WHAT I DO TO GET A GAME
      Friends (borrow then copy game)
      Blockbuster (copy game)
      Gamestop (buy for cheap)
      Ebay (buy for cheap)

All hosting sites are pretty much scared of going to jail so its the end of the games unless you do what I listed above

@Darkman-PSG - not true, not true, and wait for it...... not true. My main concern is not with bootlegs/pirated material - there are too many other sources for that but with game fixes software updates, etc. It takes like an hour to donwload 20 gigs on a crappy connection like mine so that's still pretty quick - quicker than going to Blockbuster, renting a game and coming back home - you need a membership there and IDK if you've noticed, but most blockbusters have closed their doors because of netflix. And for the parallel download issue, FreeRapid supports proxy lists so you do get your max connection speed as long as you've got a current/checked proxy list. People will always find a way to bootleg, but these file hosting sites weren't used only for that. It's just what some people decided to use them for and just because we're talking about it on a PS3 site doesn't mean that's why everyone's concerned about the loss of these sites

I think you are missunderstanding him. He is not saying newsgroups will never go down, he is saying that the usenet service itself won't since as providers go down, more will pop up. Just like with torrents... It will always be around.

I could download something which is 20GB from megaupload in less than 2 hours. Even if it is multiple rar files, you just use jdownloader. You just need to learn how to download from file hosting sites efficiently, and get a better internet connection.

My Uploadstation and Fileserve accounts have been banned and all of my files stored with them have been deleted... What really sucks is that I already had roughly $40 already sitting in the Uploadstation account and before any of this even started going down I had requested it be transferred to my paypal account but it didn't get processed in time (it always took like a week before they sent it). A day or two earlier and I probably would have gotten it. Oh well. On the upside there was only like $5 in the Fileserve account and I wasn't really earning much from either of them anymore.

Some people on other sites are freaking out like this is going to be the end of piracy and people are going to look back on this as being the bygone glory days of free content. It isn't the end. No matter how many hosting sites go down there will always be others and there will always be alternatives like usenet and torrents and newer better ways of sharing data. But this is still incredibly significant.

The real concern isn't the short term inconvenience caused by these shut downs and changes. The real problem is how much has been lost. There is a lot of data being hosted on Megaupload, Filesonic and their contemporaries that isn't available anywhere else.

Contrary to what others may suggest (often in an attempt to convince idiots to be cautious about what they post on social networks out of fear that it will haunt them in the future) the internet is entirely ephemeral and nothing persists unless it is actively preserved.

You know that abandoned piece of software you use sometimes? That cool mod for your favorite 90s PC game? That obscure comic series you liked? Well only a few people have it and nobody is going to bother to upload it again. If there was a torrent for it you can be sure that nobody is seeding anymore. That stuff is gone forever. Five years from now you are still going to be coming across posts in old forums and websites that are littered with links to these dead sites and you won't always be able to find active alternatives.

This is like when GeoCities shut down but taken to an extreme. GeoCities was already mostly abandoned and forgotten by the time it shut down. But Megaupload was thriving right up until the end and there was a lot of stuff on it.

yeah, I've never tried to be paid for anything I've uploaded over the years. Anything I've uploaded is because I saw a need and tried to fill it or just because I cared about a project. Getting paid for these uploads is why we're in the situation we're in now. In my opinion it is just retarded to think that you can get paid for uploading bootlegs with no consequences but like I said, it's not the only use for these sites but it's what destroyed them

Yeah it annoyed me when people would say something like "Don't mirror my links/mirroring my files is not allowed" so they can continue to get paid for the upload, when they were not allowed to upload it by the creators of the files in the first place.

Some people believe that putting a disc in a drive, copying all copywrited material from it to their computer and then uploading it entitles them to money.

what internet service do you have any how much do you pay... I usually get around 350-500kbs downloading frm megaupoad and everything else I only get 900kbs+ when downloading from a torrent
