  • Dual NAND Setup on 40gb Fat PS3 Working

Today, a true dual firmware setup has arrived by the hand of a Spanish hacker, who goes by varicela. He was able to successfully install a working dual NAND setup on his 40gb Fat PS3. The job isn't an easy process and most likely shouldn't be tried by the average user. The entire process requires soldering 32 fine wires to the PlayStation 3's system board. Varicela has not released a tutorial yet or directions, but you can assume that will be coming in a future update. In addition, he promises to release videos of the dual nand setup next. It should also be noted that the PNM project, which we reported on earlier this month, also utilizes a similar setup of dual NANDs and is attempting to retrieve the new 3.6x keys. It may be possible that varicela can beat the project to the punch by utilizing his setup of dual NANDs. It will be interesting to see what transpires from this project. The scene finally appears to be heating up again!

Very Good After trying out several tests of the Nand Fat off the console with poor results because of the long cable and data loss, I decided to approach the issue by putting the two Nand and activating of interest.

    Here I leave a flash1 photo of a folded and functional Sem001.

flash0 I decided to put it on this side also Flash0 Native Here the selection of the switch to nands The next video A greeting

Judging by the small number of wires routed to the switch... I would guess he has disabled the on-board NAND chip, connected both new NANDs to the same points, and uses the switch to select between them (either with the power input or a "cable select"-type pin. How it works in software will obviously not be revealed without further details.

It's ugly, but now that it's done, and the fact that it is something that can be made into a product, I expect the Wiikey guys or Team Xecuter to create a dual boot mod chip for the market. If they are smart, they'll already have something working in the next few days, and get this thing to market within a month or two - particularly since Sony is pushing hard to bring the PS4 out - if they want to make some real money.Hopefully, they will use the vast experience gleaned from years of these sorts of mods, and make it as painless as possible to install.

I Was Thinking The Other Day About All This Dual Nand Business And There Was 2 Things That Bother Me

      1) Were Do We Get A Second Nand Chip
      2) If For Example You Install 3.55 On The First Chip Then Switch Over To The Second Chip And Install 3.66 For Example, When You Switch Back To The First Chip Wouldnt It Say HDD Data Corrupt Because The 3.66 Install Would Overwrite The Files With 3.66 Ones

If Thats The Case Then I Thought You Could Make A CFW Using MFW Builder And Get It To Put All The Data It Installs On The HDD To A Custom Folder Instead Of The Root Of The HDD Then When You Install 3.66 That Data Will Be Installed On The Root And Nothing Will Effect The 3.55 Install Plus It Will Make Sure Your Saves, Trophies ect Are Separate Or Am I Over Thinking This..

Well maybe you could use two separate hdd. Easy to swap out one for 3.55 cfw one for ofw

      Guys,

This dual nand setup is just the first step to get 3.60 keys. It's not to play backups and PSN in the same console.

i dont think it would be to difficult to make a 3.55 cfw that puts all the hdd data in a custom folder instead of the root so if you were to load up a file browser you would simply see a folder called custom and the hdd content in that folder if you did that then the hdd data from the 3.66 installation wouldnt mess the 3.55 installation up and you wouldnt have to keep swaping the hdds

It always amazes me as to how some people are able/willing to do this!
The caps on every word made it difficult enough to read. It actually is VERY distracting and makes the post harder to read.
I would not have made it through half of the post if he had USED ALL CAPS THOUGH.
I just can't get through those posts at all! It is purely an annoyance.

I wonder why some of us are "wired" that way?

      On topic.......
I would love to see Team Xecuter come up with a "plug and play" type of deal for this to happen.
Even though I have almost ZERO interest in PSN and online play, the ability to switch between current OFW and CFW (or even CFW and a different variety of CFW) would be the cake that I could also eat.

This looks promising. I just want to be able to play the latest games and still have homebrew on the same console. Can't afford separate PS3 just for playing new games.

Is it just me or does it look like wires are touching????????? How is that possible, open wires touching, by solder point.

This will bring us a step further to cracking 3.66 But what it will also do, is take us a step closer to fix all those bricks that inevitably occur in the scene.

have you noticed every new post about dual nand seems to be using a different chip or setup lol
