Now this is what I call a scene release! When respected developers put their minds together and create a solution for the scene. PlayStation 3 developer Aldostools, with help from zadow28, gDrive, acab, GraVoX, has released mmDM, a DEX Game Mounter. This handy application is for those who have converted their PS3's to debug/DEX units. This negates the need for a PS3Gen formatted HDD, removing the four game restriction, while utilizing your PC via LAN as the source for your backups. Then comes another respected developer! Deank has updated his DEX version of multiMAN to be compatible with mmDM.

Credits:

What is included:

multiMAN 04.05.01 [DEX]
mmDM 01.00.00 [PC] (Aldo's PS3 DEX Game Mounter)

Advantages:

No need for ps3gen and dedicated USB HDD with limitation for the number of games
No need to go to the PC each time you want to select a game (if mM is used)
Faster loading times via LAN
No need to split games
No HDD space required for games (only game data)
Works for 00.92-03.60 DISC game backups
Works for 03.70-04.20 DISC game backups with 03.55FW patched disc eboot/self/sprx files (not PSN/pkg patches)
If you prepare UPDATE packages for 03.70-04.20 games make sure to change all /dev_bdvd references in EBOOT.BIN/self/sprx files to /app_home

What do you need:

A PC and a PS3 and wired LAN (and some brains)
Wired LAN connection from your PS3 to the local network
multiMAN 04.05.01 [DEX] installed on your PS3
ProDG / TargetManager installed on your PC
mmDM (DEX GameMounter) installed on your PC

On your PC (one-time setup):

mmDM:

Start mmDM (DEX Game Mounter)
If you get warnings about ProDG, ignore and continue
Click the [FOLDER-ICON] button and browse to the game backups folder on your hdd/usb
mmDM will show your games
Pick one game and click "MOUNT >" button
If you run into 1002 error problems, change the mount-point-drive to O:\ or another drive letter

ProDG/TargetManager:

Install and configure ProDG / PS3 Target Manager to have your DEX PS3 visible in "Debugging Station (DECHA00J / .... )"
Connect to your PS3 (F7)
Make sure that you have "Reset Mode" set to "System Software Mode" -> "Target -> Reset Mode -> System Software Mode"
Reset your PS3 -> "Target -> Reset"
Wait for reset to complete
Right-click on your target PS3 name and select "Set File-Serving Directory (app_home/)"
Select drive/path Z:\ (or O:\ or the one you used earlier - IMPORTANT: it must be the same drive letter as in mmDM)
Select your PS3 under "Debugging Station ..." and press F7 (or mouse right-click -> Connect)

On your PS3:

multiMAN:

Start mM
Go to "Settings" -> "Network Servers"
Add your PC as a network server (/net_host) - enter your PC IP address and leave the default port
Go to "Games" column
Click "Refresh" and wait for it to complete
You should see the games from your PC (a little globe icon in right-hand corner of the icon)
Pick a game and press [X]

After you complete all this one-time setup you will have two choices:

--- Activate/mount games on your PC manually:

Have ProDG running on your PC and connected to your target PS3
Have mmDM running on your PC
Double click a game (or right-click -> "Convert EBOOT to DEX" and double-click)
Launch game from /app_home on your PS3

or

--- Have multiMAN remotely activate games via mmDM

Have ProDG running on your PC and connected to your target PS3
Have mmDM running on your PC
In multiMAN - select a network game and click [X] and play from /app_home

Setting up ProDG (Target Manager):

Connect your PS3 to LAN with cable (no Wi-Fi) and setup the Network in XMB->Network Settings
Install and configure ProDG / PS3 Target Manager to have your DEX PS3 visible in "Debugging Station (DECHA00J / .... )"
Click the green-refresh-arrows to scan your local network for a DEX PS3 (second row, third selection from the left)

Hopefully your PS3 will appear, so right-click -> Add target
Make sure that you have "Reset Mode" set to "System Software Mode" -> "Target -> Reset Mode -> System Software Mode"
Make sure that mmDM (DEX Mounter) is running on your PC and a game is mounted to Z:\ drive
Right-click on your target PS3 name and select "Set File-Serving Directory (app_home/)"
Select drive/path Z:\ (Or O:\ or the one you used earlier - IMPORTANT: it must be the same drive letter as in mmDM)
Select your PS3 under "Debugging Station ..." and press F7 (or mouse right-click -> Connect)
Reset your PS3 -> "Target -> Reset"
Wait for the resettingphase to complete

Hmm, very interesting, this is a feature of the cobra dongle I always liked the look of.

I havent gone over to DEX yet, still running rogero, this is something that could convince me for sure, would mean I could install my other HDD into my pc, no more transferring back and forth..

Anyone have any idea if this is a feature that is only possible on DEX or something that could now easily be ported over to cex?

What is the idea with mounting Z:\? I have no such drive.. should i create it somehow? some more information would really help...

I think mounting Z:\ is any drive u choose, when u get connected you will see a folder with the game you chose Z:\ pop up on the pc.

First of all : great progress & thx to DeanK, naehrwert and all the other guys!

I think that I'll convert my CEX to a DEX soon ... this DEX-GameMounter sounds awesome! Are there any plans to release a LiNUX-version of this tool (or the sourcecode) too?

You can unpack the RAR-selfextract-file with file-roller or similar (right-click - unpack the file "mmDM ver 01.00.00 DEX Game Mounter by aldostools"), copy (do not move) the DLLs from the "scetool"-subdirectory into this folder and try launching the "DEX_Game_Mounter" in a terminal-window. I had no success, but I'm playing around a bit ...
try playing around with "strace" or such

strace wine {some of these exe-files even the selfextractor}.exe 2>&1 > strace_{somelogfile}.log

and investigate the output

2. I'm not sure, but maybe you simply can use the Linux-version of ps3netsrv from some MM-packages (4.02.00 for example) and mount the games by hand.

3. When launching the executable "DEX_Game_Mounter" I receive following error-message:

ERROR: ProDG Target Manager server is not running. The program is required to run the DEX Game Mounter. Please start ProDG Target Manager and try again.

I don't think that there is a ProDG-version for LiNUX available ... (damn & lol)

UPDATE: ProDG could be installed and runs using wine - now I only need my CEX DEX'ed!

THIS ALL ONLY CONCERNS TO LINUX!!!!

I picked one of my internal PC HDD's, called E:\ . I mounted a game and then E:\ popped up indeed, but I don't see the game under app_home/PS3_GAME/

Any ideas?

Do you see your games inside MultiMan? Maybe you'll have to configure your ps3srv (PC-IP address) inside MultiMan as "host0"?

Ah,. progress then?

did you get mmDM running in linux, ( which distro / wine version are you using?)

do you have (or anyone) a link to ProDG, for some reason I cant find it on an active link..

I found ProDG, it seems to install in wine ok..

cannot find application location in c: ? but no errors., still no luck with mmDM?

i would really like to goto 3.55 dex but im using a cobra-usb dongle so unless theres a 3.55 cobra dex

It requires proDG, so unless someone comes up with a completely different way to do so, i don't think we'll ever see this working on cex.

**** baby steps, the Scene is up and running in fact it looks like its braking away from the pack is taking over the game...

seems dex is getting more an more tempting...

do all the old games work on dex consoles too ?

similarly to how they do on 3.55 ?

in case anyone had the same doubt as I did, this only works on a 3.55 dex cfw with peek and poke

You can use 3.55 or lower cfw on dex.

alright so my question is this.....do all these new games work on a 3.55 dex fw or do they only work on 4.21 dex ?

an vice versa do old games work on 4.21 dex fw ?

just trying to figure out if any of the fw's play both new an old games ?
