PSX-SCENE Forum Discussion for Sony PlayStation/PsOne/PS2/PS3/PSP/PS VITA
  • Crypter Tools Released

PsDev has another release called Crypter. Basically, you can decrypt and encypt any file, sign your own file with your own key, and if you have a key to another thing... lets say lv0, you could decrypt it.

PsDev, creator of many other programs comes to you with a package of tools the can encrypt and decrypt any file you want to with your own key . Here what he said

    Code:
"This package of tools can encrypt and decrypt any file type, you can use you own key so no one can decrypt it. Unless they know the key. Note** you can only decrypt files that are encrypted that you did not create if you know the key for it, you cant randomly create a key and try to use it to decrypt it. There is and example folder inside the download too."
    How to:
    Code:
    The USAGE:

    Encrypter:

    <Encrypter.exe> <input> <output> : <The Key you want>
    ____________________________________________________

    Decrypter:

    <Decrypter.exe> <input> <output> : <The Key you entered in the encryptor>

Note -- if the file has and extension on it ex: example.txt, you must add the .txt.

The Decrypter will say it was decrypted successfully but if you did not enter the right key you will get a file damage error, So enter the right key (One you use to encrypt the file with)

Shows potential, but I'll be the first one to say it, we still need those keys to start with. I remember seeing something about a method of dumping a per-console key, but I didn't pay much attention to it. I'm also thinking that even if we did do that, that it wouldn't do us much good, unless the found keys would work with deank's ebootmod tool. If that were the case, I could see a lot of smiling faces out there. But hey, I could just be talking out of my ass

      Is this just a generic whole-file encrypt/decrypt.

The PS3 uses a whole bunch of different algorithms of which some files are not whole file encryption.

Is this PS3 specific i.e. can it decrypt anything at all related to the PS3?

That is a good question. I would like to know which files have been "decrypted", and which ones are being "worked on".

yeah, the screenshot shows he's encrypting/decrypting text files. I don't see how that's useful for the ps3. There are tons of open source encryption programs out there. Is this just a generic encrypter, or is this PS3 specific?

I'll ask the obvious question, does it encrypt npdrm properly?

Whenever I see this guy's name I think at CFW FOLDER Checker (whatever)... and I always end up with a stupid grin over my face
I might even think at a great application to post for this contest myself... It will be called "Useless Crap of Magic PS3" - UCMPS3

Now, I respect everyone's work, I know that making free applications for someone is hard, and the biggest reward we get as developers is the people's gratitude!
YES, I respect your work, but making a program that adds 1+1 endlessly, and posting it over the net won't get anyone's attention!

OH, and if you ever wonder why I bash this guy this much: You can do what this program does with one line of code! ONE LINE!
I'm a little rusty, more than 7 yrs break from programming but I'm sure that encryption routines are embedded in every major programming language

I gotta agree with you. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt with the CFW folder checker thinking that it could be good to idiot proof installation, but suggested improvements like an md5 checker built in. That one was just basically a spell checker, and this appears to be just a generic encrypter/decrypter not really related to the ps3 at all. I'm starting to think he's just putting any old thing out to put his name in the monthly contest. You could say that about ThatOtherPerson too, but at least there's more than a couple lines of code in their releases

I think the problem is that his work is being front paged.

I'm not sure if someone is just getting stuck on his name 'psdev'.

It isn't like he has released anything so that his name has any credibility; he is just a wannabe-hacker.

Imagine if he actually won the monthly contest; imagine the interview.

      Q. How did you get into dev work.

      A. Oh, you know. I'm a skiddy for life!

The PS3 scene is all bark and no bite...

every week we get titles like: "TB dongle reversed engineered for CFW!!!; Developer X found an exploit but he's not sharing; Developer Big fat Liar decrypted lv0 but won't say how"

There have been "news" about possible CFW for months now, just do a search and see... and NOTHING ever happened.

Psdev has not claimed this is anything to do with the PS3, he simply wrote the tool. But as always you have the idiots coming in here wanting everything on a plate and start hating when they don't get their PS3 CFW's.

I don't want anything handed to me. I am more than capable of building on somebody's idea if I actually sit down and work on it and have all the right info I need. I just think that if this IS just a generic decrypter/encrypter then a better place for it would be sourceforge. Not a PS3 related site seeing as it appears to have nothing at all to do with any game console. At first glance the article is misleading. Nothing against PsDev, but there's a place for everything. I just don't think that this is the right place for this

      Unclear as to which definition:

      1. A variation of the word Script Kidddy.

      2. A very small female whom is incapable of straightening her own hair, NEEDS alcohol pads, and tends to attract weird, older, myspace pedophiles.

      3. The nick name of a boy who craps his pants in year eight. grows a mullet on his freckled head, and invents a girlfriend need i say more.

#2 is a little weird, so I'm gonna run with #3. It's just funnier in my head that way

i dont see you releasing or contributing shit. and before you say it, because i know you will, NO I HAVENT RELEASED ANYTHING EITHER, BUT YOU DONT HEAR ME TRYING TO KILL A DEVS MOTIVATION, I AM GREATFUL FOR WHAT ANY DEV HAS DONE FOR THE SCENE.

so why dont you shut the hell up son, and enjoy the ride, or just shut up, that would be good enough, kid.

why dont you put your name in the monthly contest too,

ok.... first of all nowhere on here did I bash the guy. The closest I came was a stupid joke about skiddy definitions from the urban dictionary. I'm sure that if he read it he would have took it for what it was - A JOKE. I've actually defended him and his work on his previous releases. The only thing I said is that this is not a ps3 (or any system for that matter) related project. It is a generic decrypter and encrypter that I suggested should be posted on sourceforge if he wanted to release it. I have openly said on this site that I am not a programmer. I have not done any programming in over 10 years and wouldn't even attempt to do it now because I prefer to leave it to those with more talent, skills, and the passion to put the time in. Also, I am not your son, not a kid, and I won't be told to shut the hell up by you or anyone. You talk mighty damn big when you're somewhere else across the country staring into a computer screen. If you bothered to read my posts or anything else I've posted on other threads on this site or any other, you'd see that you're just being an asshole. I actually go out of my way to help people on here. The only person I have ever bashed on this site or any other is Math because of his shitty attitude. It's a lot like yours. I will not be disrespected "son"

Let's not bash the guy, everyone. From what I can see it seems he/she is just starting out, and what sense would it make to bash every budding developer before they even manage to get a running start at it? Everyone has to start somewhere, right?

Hell, I'd wager at least 80% of the members on this site, if not more, haven't even the first clue how this program was written or how it works. Does this encrypter/decrypter deserve to win a contest? Probably not. Is it news, however? It absolutely is. It's news that someone new and, hopefully, promising is starting to dig their nails into the security bastard that is the PS3. It's a bold beginning if ever I've seen one.

If I sounded like I was bashing the guy it was unintentional. Yes, I do understand how cryptology works. Here's a simple XOR equation bXORk=c. b is each byte of plain text, k is a constant value. c is your cipher value. Granted that's not a very involved encryption equation, but it is basic enough to be functional. I haven't looked into the PS3's key structure but I don't think it would be that simple of an equation. There's just too much money involved. I applaud his effort and the fact that he's putting himself and his work out there. I just think he's putting the cart before the horse. These projects he's been releasing just feel incomplete and do not appear to be very practical. Also, they don't seem to fill a real need. Like you said it appears he's just starting out and is still learning and I hope he hasn't taken anything I've said personally. I just think he's putting out releases that aren't ready to be released. I think that if he held off on releasing his projects and put the extra time and energy into them and did some more research, then nobody would have any reason to say anything negative about them. I'm sure they will, they always do, but it would be unjustified. I see room for growth in his last release and if you read the comments I left on that thread, anybody'll will see that I actually pulled for him and offered several suggestions for improvements.

      to all you whiners

wahhhh wahhhh wahhhhh.... do you happen to have 10g laying around for a lawyer if sony comes knocking on your door? (not to mention I really wouldn't want sony to notice/patch the exploit.. I would share it among friends and that would be that)

this is a simple app posted above, leave it at that... don't go putting people down... like do you want a refund or?

and the scene is not dead, all true homebrew is running good

and if your into playing backups or want to play new games, buy a tb for less then the cost of a game.

you don't think figuring this stuff out costs money?

think for one moment how many consoles have been bricked making this firmware

I don't know about you but I had to save for a while to get mine... and I never had one until recently when they became affordable.... there not cheap

I highly doubt your even running anything from the scene... your just trolling waiting for a fix cause you missed out

and all thats left for you to do is complain

me on the other hand, I want to thank everybody involved in the scene.

especially the creators of showtime & mm, it only now does everything.
