Sony sure has made any interaction and dealings with their company to be a rather distasteful experience hasn't it. I for one will never buy another Sony product of any kind. I don't agree with this company's philosophy nor will I encourage their continued existence.

First they threaten and sue anyone they can get their hands on for doing what they want with peoples personally owned equipment. THEN, in Sonys next EPIC failure, they expose all of their paying customers personal information AND financial information due to their inability to secure their customers data adequately. YES financial information. My CC company informed me that they were advised that the CC numbers were exposed.

It's clear that Sony has no concern about their customer base (given all of their actions to date) and instead are more interested in maintaining some sort of overlord dominance over their hardware and software creations.

My sincere wish is that Sony burns for this... to the point of non existence would be fine too. This company has no right to exist in this market place with these twisted values.

I keep reading about people saying the U.S. Gov is after Sony. From what this letter and statement says they want to know info about the attack for a hearing about data security. Also congress passes laws and budgets, I could be mistaken but I don't know of the us congress (at least the one that the FTC resides under) looking to "go after a company" I do think Sony is going to burn for this. It is going to be a slow burn, but a burn none the less. How ever there are things working in Sony's favor. Sense the data loose, and the time of notice heck Even up to now. The cc numbers haven't been used. In other words there was a duty to act, a failure of that duty to act. But sense it has already been a few days sense they officially announced it, it will be imposable to prove that the failure to duty to act on the notification side was the causation of what ever losses their might be.

Now as far as the actual data, There is allot of breach of duty to act's in there. 1 being the passwords where not hashed. 2. was that the system was not all that secure. Being the attack took days I would say it was not a direct hack. But rather they probably worked there was up through lower systems within the Sony network. This is something that is rather common. My town for example if you where to start off in my high school (this is a .... few years ago) you could actually access my towns police department. You simply need to start low and work you way up and eventually over. In other words, if you go control of another less secure Sony computer, heck a touch screen display at a Sony satellite office then you are now part of a trusted Sony cluster and simply need to make your self part of the cluster you want to access. Anyways that was all important because this is not a new trick. I have a feeling this is where Sony is going to burn. If you get a good lawyer and security team I am shore they can find things that Sony didn't do just cause they are cheap and lazy.

As far as no otherOS being on any new systems. That will be true but not because of security. Simply because Sony has proven that it just cost to much money. Actually if we all remember back to when the ps3 and hv where being reversed engineered. The statements made was that the chips security structure was good (because Sony didn't make it) but that the ps3 generally was not secured very well after that. The thing that kept the ps3 from being modded was otherOS. The ps3 was a media center a gaming center a halfway decent PC and if that wasn't enough, a free on line network. What else did people want. aka their was no need to hack it. You had home brew if you knew Linux and C+. For all those thinking it in the back of your heads, no. Pirating games is not a reason to crack the ps3. The removal of otherOS however killed off 2 out of 4 of those things. Then to add a little insult Sony say hey you didn't have to choose to loose otherOS you could have not went on line and not played new blue-ray movies. Sony killed a truly great idea, all we can do is hope the next one sees what it did for Sony, not simply what it did to them.

About time the tables turned on Sony in the courts and government rulings in any county

BUT

its all going to cost every playstation user and sony customer in general,
not just in the infomation/financial areas it already has/is its going to be affecting future development within Sony not just in the playstation range other areas will be hit hard if figures escalate to the billions they could......
all through the loss of something sony like too much "profit" lost through compensation and fines and loss of customer base/psn sales present...and future
we will end up fitting the bill in one way or another..

All Thanks to sonys inadequate security on psn with our details and some ccok head low life "hackers", i support all forms of system hacking if you own it but these guys responsible want to be shot.. hacking for money/personal gain... not for educational values or in our case for a system sold function return and the right to program on our devices....

im hoping it wont turn out to be an xbox world im sick of repairing mirosofts's Sihitty hardware, xbox "for bone idle devs" although ms does provide something called customer service even if they were forced to with the ring of death i hope sony changes like ms did on that front... an takes a dip in profit... for a while at least..and lets all hope they educate the security "experts" better..

i hope sony gets hit hard for this **** and yeah maybe its cause i am still pissed about the 50$ PSN charge that was made on my PSN to my CC when SONY had my playstation in there repair shop they told me i had to take it up with my CC co. cause there was nothing they would do about it cause i could have just used a friends ps3 i never have and never will log on my name with someone elses system i was pissed
