Asbestos 1.2 Released - Network Install No Longer Necessary

Today, Kmeaw and company, updated AsbestOS loader to version 1.2. The new release no longer requires a network setup, in order to be installed. Earlier today, support for "Fat" PS3 models also arrived.

How To:

1. install AsbestOS installer v1 or higher:
slim - asbestOS_v1.2_Slim.pkg (3.32 MB)
fat - asbestOS_v1.2_FAT.pkg (3.32 MB)

2. partition a USB disk to have at least one partition (FAT-formatted);

3. Download debian.rar (295.14 MB) unpack linux.img and put it into the root dir of usb disk;

4. run AsbestOS installer;

5. install lv2 patcher v9 or higher: lv2-v9.zip (111.43 KB);

6. attach an ethernet cable, connected to a network with a dhcp-server (just for the initial boot, it can be a SOHO router - just anything with DHCP); (NO LONGER NECESSARY IN ASBESTOS 1.2+)

7. run lv2 patcher and select "Linux";

8. as you see the fb console with penguins, you can unplug the ethernet cable; (NO LONGER NECESSARY IN ASBESTOS 1.2+)

9. login: ps3, password: ps3.

If you don't see anything, press Ctrl-Alt-F1, then Alt-F7.

This is amazing! Though, a quick few questions for anyone who can answer.

Does this work on 3.55 as were using the LV2 patcher?
Does AsBestOS support using the PS3 controller to move the mouse around or does it require a USB mouse/keyboard?
And last, can we use any linux distro or just this one specificially?

If you re-read the first post I think you will have answers to your first two questions, I think you can only use that build of Linux unless you know your way round the OS and build your own kernel, someone correct me if I am wrong.

I tried this with my ps3 slim on kmeaw cfw 3.55 and it starts to boot then gets a failed and says(result=-11) does any one know how to fix this

it doesn't work for me. I lose video signal when trying to boot, and the Keyboard thing doesn't work. My pen is in FAT32.

I'll go test it on my old 4gb pendrive, which I can actually format in FAT and not FAT32 and exFAT only.

*facepalm* look at the post.

Well this isn't working for me. The video signal is lost, though my drive does blink which means it IS doing something... I wonder what's up with that.

I'm using S-Video.

Ps3 slim getting same error as spauldinga14.

failed and says(result=-11)

cant make out exactly what it says since the text is very distorted,

"sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
cant make ou the text on this line, but says failed. (result=-11)
cant tell what this line of code says until say failed cid:100003 res:-11 I think this is what this line says...?"

Thanks it works perfect!

I have ubuntu could i use that instead of debian? Also i don't have a wired keyboard and mouse but it boots up fine and everything. bummer

this would probably work great if you didnt have to be on kmaew CFW I am on waninkoko V2 and of course because I guess the files arent signed or whatever they will not let you install them... lame. so I guess I will wait for graf version of linux maybe it will actually work.

I'm on a slim and wow this thing looks so cheap thats why I want to know if i could run ubuntu instead.
