  • Anonymous Hacking Group Wages War on Sony

An anonymous hacking group, which originates from the 4chan imageboard, has set its eyes on the Sony Corporation for their recent mistreatment of Playstation hackers Geohot and graf_chokolo. The group has most recently launched a DDOS campaign against several of Sony's websites such as Sony-Europe and several Sony Motion Picture websites. The group states that it plans to eventually target Sony's larger website as their movement grows stronger.

Anonymous, the notorious hacktivist group originating from the 4chan imageboard, has set its sights on Sony for alleged abuse, victimisation and privacy violations in the legal action against a group of PS3 hackers.

In an image, posted to the website AnonNews, a member of the group states, "Sony, you have now received the undivided attention of Anonymous. Your recent legal action against our fellow hackers, Geohot and Graf_Chokolo, has not only alarmed us, it has been deemed wholly unforgivable."

George "Geohot" Hotz and the German-born Alexander "graf_chokolo" Egorenkov are two of the hackers who dismantled the PlayStation 3's security architecture and made the information public. This data has made homebrew software, game piracy and cheating in online games a common occurrence on the console.

To fight back, Sony has entered a long and bitter legal campaign against the coders and their associates.

Since January 2011, Hotz has been entangled in a court case with Sony's American division. In February 2011, Sony Europe demanded German police raid Egorenkov's home and seize any equipment related to hacking the PS3. The Japanese gaming titan has also threatened to sue the cheeky coder for a whopping million euros.

Sony has also had varying degrees of success in demanding information from other sites and services in relation to the case. Paypal gave up all the information on Hotz's account and Sony was able to see the IP addresses of everyone who has visited the hacker's website.

The manifesto says that the forthcoming attacks will also be for reasons other than the legal actions against Hotz and Egorenkov. "Your corrupt business practices are indicative of a corporate philosophy that would deny consumers the right to use products they have paid for, and rightfully own, in the manner of their choosing," the poster reads.

"Perhaps you should alert your customers to the fact that they are apparently only renting your products?" it asks. "Anonymous would like to inform you that you have only been 'renting' your web domains."

Which, presumably, is a call to arms for DDoS attacks and other online villainy against Sony. The group, working under the name " Operation Payback" has used similar techniques to bring down websites for the MPAA and RIAA.

    Dear Greedy Mother******s SONY,

Congratulations! You are now receiving the attention of Anonymous. Your recent legal actions against fellow internet citizens, GeoHot and Graf_Chokolo have been deemed an unforgivable offense against free speech and internet freedom, primary sources of free lulz (and you know how we feel about lulz.)

You have abused the judicial system in an attempt to censor information about how your products work. You have victimized your own customers merely for possessing and sharing information, and continue to target those who seek this information. In doing so you have violated the privacy of thousands of innocent people who only sought the free distribution of information. Your suppression of this information is motivated by corporate greed and the desire for complete control over the actions of individuals who purchase and use your products, at least when those actions threaten to undermine the corrupt stranglehold you seek to maintain over copywrong, oops, "copyright".

Your corrupt business practices are indicative of a corporate philosophy that would deny consumers the right to use products they have paid for, and rightfully own, in the manner of their choosing. Perhaps you should alert your customers to the fact that they are apparently only renting your products? In light of this assault on both rights and free expression, Anonymous, the notoriously handsome rulers of the internet, would like to inform you that you have only been "renting" your web domains. Having trodden upon Anonymous' rights, you must now be trodden on.

If you disagree with the disciplinary actions against your private parts domains, then we trust you can also understand our motivations for these actions. You own your domains. You paid for them with your own money. Now Anonymous is attacking your private property because we disagree with your actions. And that seems, dare we say it, "wrong." Sound familiar?

Let Anonymous teach you a few important lessons that your mother forgot:
    1. Don't do it to someone else if you don't want it to be done to you.
    2. Information is free.
    3. We own this. Forever.

As for the "judges" and complicit legal entities who have enabled these cowards: You are no better than SONY itself in our eyes and remain guilty of undermining the well-being of the populace and subverting your judicial mandate.

    We are Anonymous.
    We are Legion.
    We do not Forgive.
    We do not Forget.
    Expect us.

Those DDOS are pretty amateurish, they use multiple users because they can't effectively hack and get a zombie army, even your everyday scene group could easily achieve this and effectively shut down every Sony's site. They barely shut down anything for more than 12 hours, those are kids with nothing better to do.

Well even if this is real or not, no matter how futile this may or may not be, I for 1 am glad that someone is taking some kind of action on behalf of Geo and Graf. I support these guys completely, Information is free and should used freely. $ony has no right to (try) to control the flow if information, of by no means remove anything from a item I own. (paid my cash for)

And I see no matter what is posted that some people always got to be on the negative side of a story, even when it is for a good cause and might benefit them....

For example, Robert S. Wiesenthal, Group Executive, Sony Corporation, leading Corporate Development and Mergers and Acquisitions at Sony headquarters’ family history is currently being released onto the internet. His marital status, age, place of address, education and even whether he has children has been discovered. Other main targets include Nicole Seligman and Sony boss Howard Stringer, but multiple Sony employee emails are noted as future targets. In fact, on anon complained “No one found ANY info on Stringers kids?”

Yeah that was funny, watching him was like watching a monkey eat it's poo, he had no idea what the hell he was talking about, he was jumping from one statement to another throwing out factless numbers. And you can tell he was just upset cause he could not play Call of Duty cause if you look at the couch in the background you see the pillow and sheet where he sleeps

I hate it when, I as a legit gamer, get dragged into this bulls**t. Yeah PSN was down. Dammit I am paying money for my legit games and I am even a PS+ subscriber. If you lowlives hate Sony so much than please throw your consoles and what not that is branded Sony into the trash and play pong for god's sake.
I wish that all you irresponsible hackers will be tracked down and charged with cyber terrorism or what-not!!!
If you guys wanna hack the crap out of your console...pelase do that but then accept the fact that you dissed your rights to play online. Stay the hell out of PSN and ********* on your freakin' homebrew, devs and copy games!!!!!!!!!
      Or better get laid....

If ego was their main concern I doubt they would be 'anonymous' - kind of defeats the purpose.

Although I don't agree with their vigilante tactics, someone has to do something.. Sony is out of control and they are right - the judges and other legal parties involved are making a mockery of justice and rights. They are setting dangerous precedents and need to be reprimanded for it. Although I feel the correct way to do so would be to fine them for stifling innovation, trouncing consumer rights, abusing the legal system, and imposing heavy fines until they undo the damage. I guess that will never happen though so in the meantime, we're left with this situation..

mmmm interesting though still something seems fake to me

ild say sony has more than 1 server and prob alot of mirrors of the websites that were attacked by ddos attacks so that's sorta stupid i hope they protect there own asses very well

because if it is true sony will be hiring there own team of hackers i.e there are those who get payed to hack professionally and they are very good

also was funny to read that no one knows what anydvd is and so there copied dvd's dont work in there playstation 3
