Despite Graf_Chokolo's house being raided by police and a legal battle with Sony, he continues to release his PS3 discoveries. Today he has unveiled a very interesting aspect in PS3 development regarding PS3 hard drive encryption. His discovery is a method for disabling hard drive encryption, which would allow you to use your PS3's hard drive in any other PS3 console.

Guys, take a look at “ps3dm_sm set_del_def_encdec_key” command. You can disable/enable virtual FLASH/internal HDD encryption with that And by patching HV process 9 (which sets ATA keys before loading GameOS) you can disable it permanently. It means you could swap your internal HDD and use it on another PS3. But you have to restore the content on it after disabling encryption because all data will be encrypted of course.

Soon i will implement ENCDEC device driver for PS3 Linux and you will be able to experiment with ATA encryption. ENCDEC device is responsible for VFLASH/HDD encryption on PS3.

Why let the fear of one company hinder you when you're doing something that you love doing the most in life? (hacking in general.) And who seriously needs encrypted HDD in their PS3? I never did, but it was forced that way because some stupid new laws allow restricting it that way (DRM). I think it will only slow down things and won't let me backup game saves and modify files as well as I can on a PC, therefore it's a feature me as a customer wants gone. Obiviously Chokolo likes console hacking the best hobby in world and Sony suing him is like some bully trying to steal some lil kid's football who's playing around with it. Except on a different magnitude.

question: with this could i copy all my ps3 info into another ps3 HDD (with DLC's, savedata, trophies, etc)?

i got 2 jailbroken ps3... in the first one i got lots of dlc's, trophies, savedata and all that stuff... the second one is really new, so i couldn't connec it online, and i really loves my dlc's

Graf is not doing anything wrong, just because Sony want to sue him. Sony will lose the case and Graf should counter sue and make himself a fortune. People should not run scared of bullies.

things will go a little slower now that sony has made a "huge update" on the way things works on the ps3 and on the authentication... But sooner or later more wonderful stuff will come out.

You can't compare app development (multiman's "new visuals" daily, millions of devs out there are capable of that) with Reverse Engineering (only very talented guys do it right). In case you have a clue, that is.

Graf is certainly a fearless dev w.nothing to lose. I wish other ps3 devs thought like graf.

Graf is setting a brave trend. To be sued by sony means you are a true legend.

Nobody knows if Sony will loose the case (look at ECDA wordings, article 6 in particular, you cannot crack devices that were made to prevent copyright infridgement).

This guy simply has balls, unlike ***** Matheulhwhatever.
