1) **** MKV. It's overhyped TECHNICALLY LAME format, that in 98% of cases could be fully replaced by mp4 container.

It doesn't matter anymore if MKV has any technically lame issues because enough people adopted it. The technically lame -AVI- files couldn't store soft subtitles and large streams reliably. MKV is sadly the standard these days for high quality anime fansubs and some rips. That's why so many people want this, I for one begun to port mplayer for psl1ght but the threading problems take me too much time. It'd be just more practical to watch the files as they are, without any slow re-coding/muxing that brings new problems. If you don't like the optimistic attitude then it's probably better to follow some other ps3 news source, it's all that in psgroove.

AVI is an ancient format.
MP4 is a standard, widely supported container, that, among other things, is not BLOODY ****ING ****ED UP TECHNICALLY and also supports subtitles.

You can transcode absolute majority of MKVs into MP4. (oh yeah, no official support for ac3 myth? Have a look http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.ph...76#post1173576 )

Most of the time news aren't as stupid as this one, announcing actual releases etc.

This project names two absolutely irrelevant pieces: MKV container / NTFS file system (yet they are the most wanted, why would anyone use noisy PS3 as a media center is beyond me, but whatever) in the title. Doesn't it make you at least a bit suspicious?

it dependes on what you mean with "back", the way otherOS feature was (blocked acess to RSX GPU) its wasnt very good for highdef video decoding, at least so i've read, since i never had a linux ps3

I totally hate using TVersity or Ps3 media server because of the lagging issue. I did so much changes on my network, hardware and media settings hoping to solve the frustrating LAGGGGGG but nothing worked. I have been waiting for something like this to happen..

Ability to mount network shares for streaming will be a nice feature to have.

Ok i didnt know that. So, we have 2 container that seems to handle the same thing and one is open source (mkv)... Why are you so angry against mkv ?!

And you have to understand that 99% of HD scene release are using mkv, so try to understand that it's cool to have a fancy container but if its not used, its useless I mean, in computer scientist, there are ton of technology better than usb, ethernet, wifi but at one point, you have to please the end user.

And if mp4 is really better than mkv lik you pretend, just an advice, explain simply to us why whitout a pissy attitude. People wont listen to you otherwise when they see they have a product that respond fully to their expectations.

MKV is a ****ed up format, that's harder to process (due to internal stupidity and useless "omg omg features"). It is basically used mostly because biggest part of the crowd doesn't suspect, that you could do the same with much more processing friendly / widely supported mp4.

MKV is harder to process not because of its compression standard, but when you use it for high definition staff. No one is against if you use mp4 but have no idea why you are very offensive when other uses mkv. senseless... And I also would like to know how you are able to play your 1080p mp4's in your PS3 without NTFS (or ext2-ext3) support. I think you have enough time+money to burn them to blu-ray's or copy to Ps3's internal hard drive.
