  • PS3 FW 3.56 Released - Updating is Not Recommended

    Sony Computer Entertainment finally showed its hand tonight, with the release of 3.56 Official Firmware. It is strongly advised that you do not update if you wish to retain custom firmware etc. However, the firmware still needs to be analyzed to see exactly what the new version brings and if anything is patched.

    IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO UPDATE TO 3.56, IN ORDER TO RETAIN JAILBREAKING AND OR CUSTOM FIRMWARE


    UPDATE #1:
    As expected, the new firmware kills all homebrew. The update includes a new .self file with a new, previously unknown, key inside. This means all homebrew tools will have to be updated in order to restore functionality. More to come.

    UPDATE #2:
    KaKaRoToKS is pushing keys and new versions of his tools to his github HERE.
    From Kakaroto:
    pup from ps3utils and puppack/pupunpack from ps3tools in github.com/kakaroto can now pack/unpack 3.56 correctly.
    lv1 and lv2 keys are now pushed to my ps3keys repo.. more coming
    isoldr keys are now pushed too.

      The ofw3.56 was launch some hours ago, no way to this to be true...

      Look what the guy said:
      -100% Brickfree,
      -NO freezes and Games are 99% compatible

      How they know it already ? Have less than 10 hours that this "supposed Wninkokos 3.56" was laucnhed and they already know that have no lockup issues, 100% brickfree and 99% compatible games ? LOL Its not even a good fake.

      It was only a matter of time sony had to do something to save face. I am glad Kakaroto already worked on the keys and hopefully all the devs team up together to get the 3.56 jail broken.

      As for the DNS bypass, is it 100% safe or can the person running it see the data pass through it like the PSN sign on? I admit I am more of an Xbox live fan than PSN fan, but it is fun to go on PSN for some COD once in a while.

      Can anyone answer these questions for me.

      1. Do you lose your downloaded games off your HDD when you upgrade to 3.56. I would assume not because it doesn't delete stuff off your HDD. You would just lose the ability right.

      2. If you change your DNS can't Sony know whos playing with 3.55 online?

      so i am guessing no new news on and new CFW i guess give it a few days and it will be out soon i also am running OFW 3.55 and online works perfectly fine for me. If there is anything else i can spot i will let you guys know as soon as i can

      Can't it be that developers simply rename the 3.55 CFWs to 3.56 (internally) and make PS3 believe that it is actually 3.56? This way servers won't ask you to update 3.56.
