Waninkoko, popular for his work on the Wii console and FwPKG on PS3, has just released his highly anticipated PS3 custom firmware. The firmware enables the installation of homebrew content, as well as the playback of legally backed up games. He promises new tools are coming shortly to his github, which will work in conjunction with his new CFW.

THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF WANINKOKO'S FIRMWARE BRICKING CONSOLES!!! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

UPDATE REGARDING BRICKS

According to reports and posts made by PS3Hax it seems that if your PS3 has the 256MB NAND (mainly the old 60gb/20gb PS3 models) this CFW will NOT work, and it will brick your PS3.

haleskinn has posted the correct models with the NANDs, so please CHECK YOUR PS3 model before trying to install this CFW. So if your PS3 models is in pink do not install this CFW.

Instructions

Steps for Patching 3.55 Official Firmware on Windows by PSGroove.com

Step 1

Download the above files and extract them all into the same folder

Step 2

Open a command prompt, navigate to the folder where you extracted the above files, then type:

bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3CFW.PUP CFW_v3.55.patch

Step 3

Delete PS3UPDAT.PUP

Step 4

Rename PS3CFW.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP and that's it! You're ready to install Waninkoko's custom firmware.

>> INSTALLATION:

1. Download PS3 Firmware 3.55 (PS3UPDAT.PUP file).
2. Patch PS3UPDAT.PUP file with the patch included in this package using the "bsdiff" tool (http://www.daemonology.net/bsdiff).
3. Install the patched PUP file like a normal firmware update.
(in case you're already in 3.55 you need to install it in recovery mode).

Use Rogero blackbox ftp package dont try and install the original ones they wont work atm

Everythings working good for me multiman works great playing a backup from an external harddrive, havent run into a game yet it wont work on. For those having issues launching a game to a blackscreen just be sure you have a disc IN, any disc will do and it should do the trick. Just launch a backup with any disc in the drive

I'm not having trouble with using multiman, just trying to use blackb0x ftp as I get an error message whenever I try to launch it

Since trying to use blackb0x FTP has proven unsuccessful is there an alternative to blackb0x ftp which I can use.

I am running on waninkoko CFW 3.55

So i donwload Red dead redemption and i dont understand i using waninkoko CFW and then i try backup game from internal hdd and then i press LOAD game and i press folder app-PS3 just go black screen and nothing what i need to do ? maybe i wrong transfer files in ps3 or something like that i transfer BLUS30418 to dev_hdd0\GAMES so whats a problem can be ? and one more thing sometimes then i try backup games from internal its just blackscreen them my ps3 its going back in menu again P.S with original disk i try this its not working and i using MULTYMAN or i cant backup games from internal HDD ?

thought i'd report. im using kmeaw CFW with Rogero BM Manager v7.8 signed for 3.55 i am using kmeaw's CFW as it seems to be more stable. no bricks and every (legal) back-up works with out a problem, as where Waninkoko's sometimes gave a black screen or stopped the game while playing it. saying it could not read the disc.
so i think everyone should just go for the kmeaw CFW.

For all bricked 256 nand consoles
call sony and tell them that you where updating a mandatory firmware update, when all of a sudden you had a power faillure in the house.
in my case i told them that my girlfriend was making thea and the water cooker shorted out the fuse.
they will then offer you to fix the console for free

Until they start poking around through the files on your hard drive and send the console back to you as you had sent it in.

I guess you can always hope for the best.

I was one of the unlucky ones who had a PS3 phat with a 256mb NAND. My HDD was upgraded to 500gb. I was wondering if I could possibly take out my 500gb HDD from my bricked PS3 and reformat it in my new slim? I saw only one person say it would brick it too. Please help?!?
