Waninkoko, popular for his work on the Wii console and FwPKG on PS3, has just released his highly anticipated PS3 custom firmware. The firmware enables the installation of homebrew content, as well as the playback of legally backed up games. He promises new tools are coming shortly to his github, which will work in conjunction with his new CFW.

UPDATE REGARDING BRICKS

According to reports and posts made by PS3Hax it seems that if your PS3 has the 256MB NAND (mainly the old 60gb/20gb PS3 models) this CFW will NOT work, and it will brick your PS3.

haleskinn has posted the correct models with the NANDs, so please CHECK YOUR PS3 model before trying to install this CFW. So if your PS3 models is in pink do not install this CFW.

Instructions

Steps for Patching 3.55 Official Firmware on Windows by PSGroove.com

Step 1

Download the above files and extract them all into the same folder

Step 2

Open a command prompt, navigate to the folder where you extracted the above files, then type:

bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3CFW.PUP CFW_v3.55.patch

Step 3

Delete PS3UPDAT.PUP

Step 4

Rename PS3CFW.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP and that's it! You're ready to install Waninkoko's custom firmware.

>> INSTALLATION:

1. Download PS3 Firmware 3.55 (PS3UPDAT.PUP file).
2. Patch PS3UPDAT.PUP file with the patch included in this package using the "bsdiff" tool (http://www.daemonology.net/bsdiff).
3. Install the patched PUP file like a normal firmware update.
(in case you're already in 3.55 you need to install it in recovery mode).

Dude 3.55 geo fw patched packages do not install on waninkoko's ( well only one of the multiman) but you can use all of ur applications before installing Waninkoko's cfw.Someone needs to sign those useful apps for waninkoko's.

Man it's your own fault it says to upgrade at your own risk people have reported this bricks their console. Also if yours is one of the safe ones then it is probably your own fault. You may have installed it over OFW 3.41, or 3.50, or maybe even over Geohot's all of which is specified in the instructions not to do. Or you shut off your PS3 in middle of the update cause your screen went out, instead of unplugging, the replugging your video cable. There is a reason why in every ****ing release it says use at your own risk.

So do I still need to transfer the backups from my PC with FPT server if I get this CFW?? Or can I use a External Hard Drive
to put the games on?? It takes forever to transfer games from the PC to the PS3 with FPT server.

at first i thought it wouldn't play the game without the CD in but now i think Multiman just don't want to play it owell better luck next time

i still have on my ps3 never updated to jb or anything do i still sony Official from here can just install wanikoko and im done to play backup i have 60gb ps3 and can i play online with backup can someone answer my question please thanks

Yes, online still works for AC:Brotherhood, didn't have time to move my old save files nd stuff to the new folder yet though, so i gotta redo my profile etc.

I have a cosole repoted working I followed the instructions, install ofw 3.55 then install cfw, while cfw was installing my sceen didnt go black my ps3 turned off I DID NOT TURN IT OFF and red light started to flash. I was gonna wait but my model was reported working so i thought no risk.

I delete Multiman when i was on waninkokos CFW, then install again geohot CFW, and now can not install the multiman again, please help.

Did you install both OFW and CFW in recovery mode ?

So, I have a 250GB Slim model. I am on GeoHot's 3.55 so should I go to 3.55 OFW via recovery and then install the new one via XMB? Do you think it'll brick?

I've just installed OFW 3.55, but have just one question before I'll risk my life. Because of that English is not my native language, I'm using different one at my PS3. Do I need to switch it to English before patching with CFW?

I am one of the sad soul's that have bricked there PS3 (CECHE), I know there was a risk, I took it... Fail... I have been trying to keep cool and hope that there is a fix that doesn't include buying another PS3.

I have been trying to keep up with the threads about this release. There are mixed messages about fixing this YLOD. The most promising possibility seems like using a downgrade device and Lv2diag, and new firmware. Someone else said something about formatting your HD, which sounds like bollocks.

Is there any truth to fixing a bad flash? has anyone tried, how is it done? Can we get some definitive results? Should I be buying an e3card or new PS3?

Hi install this multiMAN http://www.************.com/download..._170000%5D.rar

then install some old ftp pkg.
download this http://www.************.com/download...0x%20ftp%201.2 ftp pkg but don't install ( it will not install by the way)
extract the eboot from above ftp pkg. using multiMAN overwrite the eboot of ftp.

it will work now.
for all other homebrew install the old pkg. sign eboot using geohot tool and overwrite the eboot.

If you bricked ur console try this, take out your hdd and either format it on your computer and put it back in or put it a different one it should boot up and ask you to put in a usb with 3.55 firmware...

I have 250gb ps3 slim here is what I did and it worked perfectly no black screen no having to remove the video cable ect.

I put the origional sony 3.55 firmware on a usb in folder PS3/UPDATE/ then I updated my firmware from 3.41 standard to the 3.55 standard through the main ps3 menu I didnt do any recovery menu or anything.

Once done I restart and replace my 3.55 firmware with the custom firmware and rename it, then from the playstation 3 menu i updated the firmware again it went through everything and shutdown then I restarted it. Then it worked perfectly.

I installed multiMAN ver 1.12.05 BASE [20110113_170000] did not do anything special no eboot signing anything just install it and it will work, and ripped little big planet from disc, make sure you have a blueray disc in atleast on mine it wont work without it, I use a demo disc, select the game from the multiman menu and hit x where it asks you if you want to start it from the main menu rather than direct launch. works perfectly

so then i took a 500gb hard drive and put it in my system and I followed the same steps and I am ripping/testing games as we speak, also no need to install any ftp manager because multiman has one built in and works great I am transfering file now.
