The (il)legal actions by Sony are just a delay tactic. To slow progress right down, even if it slows the progress of having OtherOS and Homebrew running on a PS3 by 6 months to a year they will have considered it money well spent. Fear and intimidation.

There are coders who will wait for this to blow over before considering trying to create bafflingly amazingly complex projects for the PS3.

Totally agree all they will get away with by doing this is to delay hackers from coming out with new tools. I mean if apple didn't try and sue him I don't see why Sony should care. I mean they act like they are going hungry or something.

SCEA just loves Courtrooms, sorta a fetish thing i think, they get off on it, not to mention the media attention towards the console advertizing that they failed in there super-secure console ... lots of sales probally come out of it, and you will still get people purchasing games, and alot potentially not, but that goes for every platform.

kudo's to geo for not agreing to there EULA, bing in Canada, vs state has a lot of advantages, even though the laws on somethings can be twisted, if you own a legit copy of software, you can reverse engineer it to be able to make it work on another hardware platform that it isnt supported on [thi leaves a lot of pen holes] , there are a few more as well .. but, the scare tactic and sueing to tie things up, it pretty much takes geo out of picture for doing much in scene , though, doesn't stop any of others, unless they are afraid of sony coming down on them as well..

The biggest effect on the global stockmarkets valuation of Sony was by the legal action. Sony really should issue a TRO against themselves, so as to not cause irreparable harm to themselves.

Anyhow overall there was not much of a change between the 23rd and the 13th, $35.57 to $35.62 - if anything the price has increased!

If Sony had not brought this legal action it looks, from the graphs, like the extra media attention would have increased their share price.
