PSX-SCENE Forum Discussion for Sony PlayStation/PsOne/PS2/PS3/PSP/PS VITA
  • 3K3y ODDE for the PS3 - EXCLUSIVE REVIEW

Long time PSX-Scene member, and an out spoken member of the community; brakk3n, shares with us today his triumphant return to reviews. And what a review it is. For those of you waiting to find out what the 3K3y ODDE is all about... Well, look no further.

**Please Note: brakk3n's opinion do not reflect those of PSX-Scene. This is his review, and in no way associated with the PSX-Scene team, or their opinions either.
It should also be noted, that NO PSN BAN as they claim has not been 100% user verified by the entire scene. Buyers beware.**

I'm proud to present my first review in over five years of The 3K3y's Team Optical Disc Drive Emulator (ODDE) hardware modification for the PS3. Using this device you can use games from a USB HDD under OFW and online with PSN. So you can always stay current with no risk of being banned. Find out more in the comprehensive review I've attached to this potential news item.

Over 500 downloads in an hour, that is most likely causing an issue. Please be patient, and keep trying.

The Way Back Machine still has them @ iso420.org, but like most of its archives it is missing graphics. Oh, and thanks!

This is a complete waste of a product, IMO

Only applies to CFW users and at this time CFW can do everything and more that this device can. Yes it will play backups in a different way but is there a need to play the backups in that way? Especially when CFW can give that same end result. You pay to lose functionally on your CFW enabled PS3 which is required to get this thing up and running, in the first place. So this has no value to OFW.

The only advantage is that you can play online without a risk of a ban. However that is not a sure bet. I would bet with time that it will be detectable (maybe not, but i believe there will be a way.).

Also we do not know How Sony detects CFW or HW on the network. So its hard to say that is 100% safe, I feel that is a bold claim to make by the creators. Does everyone forgot Sony Detected the first PSjailbreak Dongle? that was also on OFW..

I for one have used many PSN services like Netflix Crackle ect.. I have never been banned. A majority of people who have been banned:

      * Used Eboot fixes for lower CFWs
      * Played BlackOps2 online (some b4 its official release)
      * Cheated online
      * Ran homebrew apps while logged in,
      * Didn't clear there Activity logs, before logging in.

There is 85% of bans on the PSN. (of course just an estimate by me )

I know many people that have had no issues on PSN. You just have to be smart about it and respect the network. Truth of the matter is we dont know what they look for when they ban and EITHER DOES 3K3Y..

There is no way i would advise anyone to buy this product. At this time with its current feature set

This would of been "revolutionary" in the TB days. However its window has passed. IMO

Perfect review just one thing to make back ups of your own games do you always have to take out the blue ray drive out of the ps3

I totally agree. You do not gain anything, while you loose a lot of features. Not worth a penny, until it's able to grab the keys under 4.31OFW (then the users would be able to actually gain something).

It already is detectable.. the 3k3y ISO has, among some other data that is mentioned below, a 16-byte unique fingerprint (like DNAS).. so if the scene switches to ISO format, and multiple people start playing the same ISO (= same unique disc), Sony will know that it's pirated. So I would only recommend to play personal backups online and not public scene releases.

This info is incorrect and copied from someone who doesn't know their stuff.. PIC Zone Data = 115 bytes and Disc Encryption Seed = 2x16 bytes (16 bytes to retrieve the disc key that is used for decryption and 16 bytes which appears to be a disc-unique fingerprint).. So in total the only extra data is 147 bytes and not 2-3MB.. These bytes are injected into sector 2 of the ISO.

Is it possible to do this on a super slim ps3 CECH-4004A? From the review i guess it is not. From many hours of reading this forum I only regret buying a new ps3. Sorry for offtopic

      Hey, everyone!
A few questions: Does it work on 4K models? Can it run PSN games? Is it necessary to unscrew the console to install ODE?
      Thanks!

didn't you hear what STLcardsWS said? you need cfw installed on your ps3 for this modchip to work, currently you can't install cfw on super slims so you are SOL, not much you can do till that changes.

Oh, you said it didn't need CFW and could rip the keys on OFW? And now it can't? Tell me more about how you crushed the dreams of everyone.

It said ALL versions except the latest super slim would be supported from day one. That's not the case. The last hardware revision of the OLD slim removed the BD-drive board COMPLETELY and integrated it into the ps3 motherboard. All that's in the "drive" is the cable for the laser and motors. Pretty disappointed you need CFW to rip the keys. I have access to enough systems that are CFW and the prices on them are skyrocketing. To each their own I guess. I am going to buy one to play around with it of course, but that's just me.

Damn that just sucks! I was really hoping this would work on OFW like they said it would. I hope some come to light and lets us out of the OFW trap that most of us are stuck in now. I will pay for it is the damn thing if it would work on 4.31ofw. Well it is what it is but it still sucks. I will not give up hope. It took a long time to get out of 3.55cfw so I guess time will tell who will be the next CFW hero! Or what ever comes out.
