PS3 Firmware 4.20 Released - Some Suggest No PSN for CFW Users

We all knew it was bound to happen. Some suggested that the newly released method by team Rebug allowing access to PSN would prompt a firmware update by Sony. SNE Vice President Eric Lempel has announced that FW 4.20 will be released within a day. I have checked the blog which shows an image with version 4.20 however further down the page still shows information regarding the 4.11 update. Following the download link gives me an update file of 192MB which to my knowledge was not the size of FW 4.11 of 188MB. Some say CFW users have been prompted to update while others suggest F*** PSN still works. Lets hope for the latter as none of my PS3's have ever been online and I was hoping that I could one day enjoy gaming against some of our fellow psx-scene members.

Tomorrow we will be releasing a new system software update (v4.20) for PlayStation 3 which will include a few minor updates in order to strengthen functionality and improve your overall experience.

As mentioned in our previous blog post, system software update (v4.10) added a feature that enabled you to hear your own voice through the Wireless Stereo Headset when playing multiplayer modes. This type of audio feedback is known as “sidetone.” Based on your comments, system software update (v4.20) will improve sidetone audio performance by giving you the option to select one out of five levels for microphone audio, or turn the feature off completely. For those of you who use the Wireless Stereo Headset to watch Blu-ray or DVD movies on your PS3, this system software update will also enable virtual surround sound functionality, giving you a superior audio experience.

This update will also allow you to set the amount of time that the system will wait before turning itself off automatically for [Video/TV/Music/Photo] and for [Game/Other Features].

Additionally, saved data management has been improved. You will now be able to select multiple saved data items and delete or copy them as a group.

More details will be available here tomorrow once the system software update is live.

I'm getting all sorts of weird activation issues. I have Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty that I bought eons ago. When I go to play it, it tells me I need to activate my PS3. When I go to the Activation menu, it tells me I am already activated. Stuff that has been activated for years is suddenly deactivated?

Thankfully I was able to redownload the game with no issues and I can now play it. Having to redownload a 2.5GB game just to activate it again is lame. At least with the 360, once you sign in, all content not locked to that console get activated.

Thankfully, all of my PSX classics I bought have fixes to remove the DRM so I don't have to worry about them being randomly deactivated.

Also does this work for MFW 3.55 made with PS3-MFW?

That's funny.... I learned about it from ps3-dashhacks on their front page and had to return here.

Also does this work for MFW 3.55 made with PS3-MFW?

there's several put out recently. I haven't looked too much into them but I have seen some bug/RSOD reports. Can't recall for which one at the moment. Should probably wait til tthousand posts the article. He keeps very good track of everything

Am never ever gonna install any OFW other than 3.55 in case i needed...!

Well, I answered my own Question. Works pretty darn well on MFW 3.55. Synced my trophies and when I get done backing up my Fav game(Resistance 2). I'm gonna test the online play of it.

This is the Rebug FW version. The one I posted the other day was for Kmeaw.

I have a problem with kmeaws spoofer,when i try to sign in PSN iget error

"Error, You have been signed out of Playstation Network" 80710a06

Can someone help me to fix it ?
