  • FileSonic Downloads Canceled - New Hosting Service Announced!

Today, PSX-Scene member BahumatLord informed us that another file hosting service has been somewhat shutdown. FileSonic is still up and active, but there is a catch... NO MORE DOWNLOADS! You can only upload and store your own files. Meaning you can only download your own files.

Earlier today, a new site similar to MegaUpload came to my attention, Anonyupload. While not open yet, they are claiming to be out of reach from the long arms of the law. Thanks go to @Neur0Nerd & @Z31KKU.

Remember, we also offer a service similar to hosting, that allows for Downloads/Uploads

I really want to imagine that they're on their own secret island producing their own electricity and running their own servers. While also tapping in to someone's internet connection with a 5,000 mile long ethernet cable.

This really sucks for most of us. The way I found out about it is I've been searching for a fix for sound issues for the last almost 2 hours for Dragon Age Origins Ultimate collection (euro). All the fixes out there were hosted on Filesonic and Megaupload. This is gonna cause a lot of hassle for a lot of people. If anyone has the fix I'd appreciate it. And just so everyone knows, it's not a fix to play the game - the game is playable, it's a problem with voice overs not playing correctly

uploaded.to just blocked US resident, you cant access to the site anymore. Megaupload Wave, Fileserve (and go down later for sure Filejungle, Uploadstation), filesonic are finished. A internet Nightmare, supported for Feds... we´re back in time to 1990

I prefer usenet anyway - no damn captchas and stuff doesn't get deleted. People are afraid to use it tho because they only understand point and click web pages. Long live USENET!!!

That's untrue. In the very least, Nintendo has been sending take-down notices to Giga and other NSPs. Also, I'm fairly certain that the movie studios (and/or MPA(A)) have been sending out C&D orders ..

I think they've always sent the letters, but not too much has come from it. Usenet has been an essential part of the internet since the beginning and is not based in any one country or organized by any one group like these file sharing sites. There's not too much that can be done to stop that kind of thing happening. I think usenet is seen more as infrastructure. Megaupload and other sites were/are at risk because they pay people for the number of downloads for their files. That's how Megaupload got charged with racketeering and some of the other charges. Usenet isn't set up that way. At most all they can do is shut down a news provider but it does not affect usenet in the slightest. Nothing is lost - you just switch to a different provider. Anyway - no captchas is still 1000% better. I always check usenet for something before I look at torrents or file hosting sites

Plenty has come from it. Wii games get wiped out, left and right. Good luck trying to find a Wii game posted ~40 days or more ago.

I have used Newzbin for the past 8 years, editing for 6 of them .. have used Usenet since 1994. I realize Usenet isn't a centralized service, but many of the big providers are based out of the US (Giga!). These providers are the focus of Nintendo and the MPAA's attacks. With their current setups, this will only happen more and more.

Eventually, Giga will go .. that will put a dent on things, at least temporarily. Where Giga dies, plenty of new providers will pop up, I'm aware. Was just pointing out that Usenet isn't (currently) impenetrable.

I don't own a Wii, but I just checked Super Mario Galaxy found on a 100% free (but slow - sorry can't give more info here) news provider from 316 days ago. Like I said, those letters/legal actions may affect 1 or 2 providers based in the US, but usenet will live untouched because it is not owned and operated by any single group of people in any one country/nation. If you're having problems with Giganews, then just switch providers - there are many to choose from and yes, even a couple 100% free ones that provide binaries up to 400 days old completely untouched/deleted

Giga resells their lines/services to other providers. They make up for an extremely large portion of NSPs. A very large portion of posts to Usenet are made through Giga.

Yes, I'm aware of everything you're saying. I'm not battling to be right, but just pointing out, again, that Usenet isn't impenetrable. Things absolutely do get deleted.

(and it's not just Giga who are being targeted. Astra, who makes up for another large portion, also are being targeted.)
