Those of you who own the Cobra USB are in for a suprise, and not from the team themselves, but from a developer over at Tortuga-Cove, coveman. He has released an Open PS2 Loader ISO file for you to use on your systems, via Cobra Manager or multiMAN. You can now enjoy PS2 compatibility on your non-backwards compatible PS3s.

The following has been taken from the source:

I was a bit bored today, so I decided to optimize your tutorial a bit

* You don't need SWAP MAGIC
* You don't need any optical disc at all in your PS3
* Works on PS3 non-BC (tested on my SLIM)

I created an "Open PS2 Loader" ISO file, so you can just load it from Cobra Manager or multiMAN.

Just extract the .rar and transfer it to your internal HDD to /dev_hdd0/PS2ISO

I included the cover so you can either put it in /covers_retro/psx/SLES_806.08_COV.JPG or rename it to "Open PS2 Loader.jpg" and put it along side the ISO in PS2ISO folder.

thoughts- This is a great release for those of us with Cobra USBs, but no Backwards Compatible model PS3s. We are getting our PS3 back, thanks to the combined efforts of many. There is no 'I' in 'scene'!

Now THAT is news. I was going to be getting a Cobra in the next couple weeks and have been getting some games ready for it so I can just plug and play. This will be a great addition since I'm rockin a non-bc slim

@lolcatzuru - I've been waiting for a while but I don't think a free solution is gonna happen anytime soon. Personally, I would never buy a TrueBlue because all it is is an exchange of one DRM for another. TrueBlue is getting paid for flat out theft. The cobra adds new features/compatibility that Sony deemed we didn't want but look how many people have bought one of these. Obviously it has features that people still care about. Cobra deserves your money if you want what it offers. And before anyone jumps in and goes on a rant - it's an opinion. Take it for what it is

How can they make non BC PS3 run PS2 games? Either they've worked a miracle or I am horribly misinterpreting this.

Every PS3, Fat and Slim do have a software PS2 emulator in it. Sony has been working on this so they make more money by selling PS2 game through the PSN.

If you don't know already, there is a method of getting PS2 discs to play on non-bc PS3 systems by using service mode.

Now we can do this without service mode and without needing the disc. I have tons of PS2 games that I still play and waiting for the PS3 HD version of them like the Jak and Daxter series. and Ratchet and Clank series.

If this could work in conjuction with my TB (both USB dongles and a new CFW that supports both TB & Cobra) I would get it..And b4 people start hating on TB hold that thought while I pause Need 4 Spped & Portal & all the rest of them...

Same here. When I saw the news I was like "WTFOMGDAFUQISGOINGON"
I also got the feeling I'll get hated on because I may misunderstood and its not as awesome as it sounds like first when I made the post in Member News lol

Same here, if there was a CFW that was compatible with both dongles I'd get a cobra straight away with this news

It's less than $40. It's less than the cost of a controller or the cost of a game. If you're like me, then you've never had to buy any dongle/mod chip. I just installed custom firmware which was 100% free. I've only bought 1 game, but I have over 600. You can't have everything for free. This $40 opens up over a thousand other games. There may not be an I in scene, but there are a lot of cheap gamers. If you're not happy with the state of the scene, then I'm sure Sony and other companies would like to start getting your money again for games. You will be missed

I have an up to date (4.00) first ps3 which is BC and a slim with e3 flasher.. so i really dont need any dongle..! tb will be f*ck pretty soon.. then i will be more then happy!

Where is your source of info that proves this statement? I have heard this spit out of many peoples mouths ever since the TB came out. Waiting.........waiting........waiting..........oh your just spiting off at the mouth
