PS3 Firmware 4.00[Released]

Just as things were going our way, with the recent jailbreak attempt made by KakaRoTo on 3.73, Sony now dishes out firmware 4.00. This firmware has been released to prepare the PS3 for the upcoming PS Vita console and act as a content management device. More information can be found via the quote as posted by Eric Lempel II the Vice President of Sony Network Entertainment.

A new system software update (v4.00) will be released this week. In preparation for the launch of PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) in Japan, this update will prepare PlayStation 3 (PS3) to serve as a content management device. It will allow users to copy their digital content such as games, music, photos, and videos between PS Vita and PS3, back up PS Vita game games including save data to your PS3 hard drive, and update the system software for your PS Vita system using the network features of your PS3.

Other changes to take effect with this update include:

PlayStation Plus members can now choose to enable or disable each automatic update feature
Game patches
System software
Recommended games and videos
Sync trophy information

New PlayStation Network settings for filtering friend requests and messages

I mean like PS1 classics, why should I have REDOWNLOAD them when THEY ARE ALREADY ON THE SYSTEM, they removed (i think) the button to copy them to the PSP. You have to NOW redownload them and copy that way, more hassle.

Why not just download them directly to your PSP?

i don't know about anyone else but i'm one of the few (probably more than a few around here) that own two systems...one on ofw for gaming and netflix...mostly netflix and the other for homebrew...i am getting real tired of everytime i turn around having to update for one stupid reason or another...not only does it take like an hour or more to d/l the damn update but i take a chance that sony will **** up and render my system useless because of a mishap...i understand if i was going to use the damn vita but i'm not...and shouldn't have to update every time sony decides to add a + sign here or there to there worthless code just to watch netflix...i swear it's getting rediculous (damn can't spell) as there seems to be an update every two weeks...and on an old system like mine has to take a toll on the nand...

It takes you an hour to download a 170MB file?

humm, i never actualy thought of that...

but arent nand suposed to survive 100.000 plus cicles of write/errase? I dont think there's been even a 100 firmware updates

i agree with the rest, i dont play on-line, dont have netflix, i dont have a psp or intend to buy a ps vita, so i'll just stick to 3.55 and pirate a couple of games every now and them

I wont say much about this... but if true blue can play the 4.00 + games + any other updates that Sony does I will be picking up a true blue... I wont buy one now until I see can it play a 4.00 game if it can I will buy it... if it cant people wasted thier money on something that can ONLY play 3.60 games... but the game is over Sony been won this one since last year

Honestly I don't think $ony is winning, as some people stated most of us have hard-drives full of games that we have not played yet (I have two 2TB myself) and I am 3.55 and could careless about how many updates they put out, it will not affect me at all.....And as far as online...can you say XBL?

Not everyone wants to fork out money on a extra console just for online play. But I do agree with you, Sony is not winning at all. A lot of 3.6 games can be played now, this firmware has only come out what, less than 24 hours ago? People already think they are winning? It is retarded... They just expect an instant "fix" for all the new games for this firmware before any games that need this firmware has even been released.

we can all hope for cfw 4.00... but a cfw3.73 would still be useful for unlocking all of the recent games right? hope we at least get cfw3.73

Good thing I now play on PC more ever since PS3 cfw users lost online capibility. I mean I can buy games and play online or even pirate games and still play online. We all know the PS3 scene is mostly filled with 14 yr old pirates who cry about not being able to play online.

I am a pirate and I'm not afraid to say that. But I'm going to buy Assassin's Creed Revelations, Skryim, Arkham City, and BF3 (all for PS3) since I pirated the older titles in the series and loved them so I want to support the developers.

Just update to 4.00 and play online using a PC you little bitches.

Yeah, I think I already saw the youtube video link and the sharecash CFW link. Damn those devs are quick to hack 4.00 already. I can see all the people out there spending an hour filling out surveys to find that sharecash link. Keep going, it's in there. I wouldn't f*ck with you

hey i can now use my direct tv controller works on the ps3 after this update. i dont know why or how but i can move the menu on the ps3 using the direct tv controller can any one answer me how and why i can use this controller on the ps3 and it works? i havent found the back button but i can enter stuff and move things i had it set on the tv setting on the controllers and its still hooked up with the tv. it some how auto connected can someone back me up or is this something that i did and not know it ?

On this site as well as a few others, people need to get it through their heads that jailbreaking comes way before CFW!

People expectations are for hackers/crackers/devs to just scrap what they were working on all because there's a new FW? Are you serious? Nothing would ever get completed. What's all the whining and complaining about anyways? It takes at least two to three weeks (possibly a month depending on release date of a game) before we start seeing them signed with the newer keys.

This banking on TB is a joke! I honestly don't think they have the keys. They've just found the string(s) that appears to be the keys are and replacing it with their own. Hence why you have to have the dongle in in order for it to work. (Just my personal thought.)

Someone said it before, in order for the PSP and PS3 to function with file transfers etc, the firmware has to match. So it nothing new to do it for the Vita. Anyone with half a notion and realizing that this new handheld is releasing early as February/March of next year, would know they were going to do an update. Heck, with them mentioning being able to activate and deactivate PS3s online or with the PS3, the reduction in how many consoles could be activated at a time with games, it would have clicked that a new firmware was on it's way.

It's the same old song and dance.

Hence why you have to have the dongle in in order for it to work.

You only need the dongle because they programmed it to not work without it. Selling software to pirates without a way to stop them from pirating it is a very poor business model.
