Well, that was quick. After only announcing their latest Official Firmware yesterday, the people at Sony PlayStation have released OFW v3.70. According to demonhades.org, there are some major changes with this firmware that you should be aware of. First, it is supposed to contain a new set of digital keys, meaning future game patches and hot new releases will be signed to v3.70. Second, this new firmware is supposed to patch up holes that the Cobra USB dongle had been exploiting, to run PS1/PS2 support via their custom Dongle and Manager combo.

PSP SIDE NOTE: With yesterday's announcement, Sony also said they would be updating the PSP's Official Firmware to v6.60. Well according to psp-hacks.com, Sony has tried to patch some1's 6.39 kernel exploit; and also report that, developer neur0n is already making progress in exploiting this latest firmware.

Coinciding with the release of PS3 Firmware 3.70, Sony has released a minor update for PSP — PSP Firmware 6.60 — which is said to patch some1′s 6.39 kernel exploit … and that’s about it.

The good news is, if you’re following neur0n, you’ll see he’s already made some progress — new tags, new keys … he even posted this picture:

LOLOLOLOL I predicted it right I said "hmmmm. What if 3.70 is "more secure" then 3.56-3.66? IF we ever get 3.56 cfw or keys, $ony might have secretly put something else to our way to get the newest OFW cracked"In that other thread.

Yayyy!!! A new set of keys to make more new games even more unplayable. Well at least Sony can't take my Pong and Tetris away if I don't update. Lord knows you can never get enough Pong.

That scene is more mature then our scene, and more is known about the console.

That and the devs in that scene share what they find out. The ps3 scene is more like junior high where most the kids are barely scrapping by, the smart eager to learn kids get made fun of, and the rank twenty plus make sure everyone knows their rank while not really helping.

I'm firmly anchored in the second category sadly.

That's why I gave up ever waiting on a new CFW, you have certain people who have said they can get the keys needed and know how to do it but wont. !, because they are to scared 2, because they are full of shit, 3, or just attention hogs or all of the above. I switched to ofw a while ago and don't really care.

All this news about new firmwares isn't really helpful what so ever. At the end of the day those who are on cfw 3.55 or 3.41 are not going to update because they will loose homebrew / copies, and those that do update are the ones that don't care about homebrew / copies.

By this time in 6 months from now the only people who want cfw are those that want old games.

Im not afraid about the psp update because the psp scene is very powerful but as for the ps3 someone better do something real soon or it will die...

Took you long enough to realize that lol. Kmeaw is a joke, he has done nothing but patch a CFW to support backups and he is now praised by everyone and everything. All the good devs (Graf_chokolo Kakaroto Geohot) have all left the scene due to fear of getting sued. All we have left is mediocre devs who won't even approach the idea because "CFW USERS HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE TO ONLINE CALLED XLINK KAI GET WITH THE PROGRAM" well, unfortunately, no one plays anything at all besides black ops and even than it is still hell to hook up for alot of people. than there's this whole stance on piracy "UNLOCKING 3.6+ WILL ONLY GIVE PIRATES MOAR GAMES TO PLAY OMFG" well, unfortunately, what if someone goes out and buys it for 60$ only to find they can't ****ing play it. See almost everyone who enjoyed their PS3 before this happened and didn't use it as some shitty PC is hurt by no new CFW.

But, than again the devs owe the scene nothing. Nothing at all. I'm just stating the facts above^

So far the only saving grace of the scene that we have to look forward to is the new hardware mods and JFW.

The whole custom firmware adventure was claimed to be about bringing back otherOS, well I guess they gave up the idea of running Linux on 3.60 consoles and subsequent firmwares...Brace yourself for non-hackable Xbox3 and PS4.
